Ignacio de Loyola

Iigo Lpez de Loyola was a young ambitious Spanish Knight. At first, he wasn't the kind of

person you'll expect to be a saint mainly because he was rich and proud. A man like him was

expected to bring earthly honors to his family. But Iigos destiny was different. He was

destined to serve Christ. It was during his darkest moments that he saw the light towards

Christ. It was during the time that he was physically injured that he realized that what he

needed more was spiritual healing. Amidst the frustrations, pain and sufferings that he met

along his journey, his faith in Christ remained strong.

Back then, I only know little about St. Ignatius. It was only when I entered Ateneo that I get to

know more about his life. With the help of this movie, I was able to see the deeper and human

side of St. Ignatius. Just like all of us, he once was more focused on earthly goals. I find it

inspiring that he turned a life of disappointment into a life filled with spiritual meaning. Instead

of staying where he was, he journeyed to find his purpose even though he was not sure where

it will lead him. The new path was uncertain and completely different from the life he grew up

in yet he still chose it. All the pain didnt stop him from serving God. It was through the pain he

endured that he found strength to continue his mission. The movie made me realized that the

path we initially planned and hoped for is not exactly what we imagined it to be. Sometimes

there will be obstacles and there are also times that we have to change the course of our life.

But changing your course in life doesnt signify weakness; it actually shows that youre

courageous enough to face another unknown battle. Sometimes the change in ones path is

good especially if its Gods plan.

Just like the young Iigo, I am also quite ambitious in pursuing my dreams. I want to finish

college with honors, find a good job which pays good and die happy. It looks ideal but it could

be something more. My goals were always about me. Yes, theres nothing wrong about

having dreams for yourself but at the same time, it is not as meaningful as having dreams of

helping others. Including Christ in my dreams will give it more meaning. It is not only me who

would benefit from my dreams but also other people. The problem is that sometimes I fear the

pain and sufferings that I may face. Helping others is not as easy as it seems but if its done in

the name of Jesus, all the obstacles could be conquered just like how St. Ignatius seized them

all.
