Darren Andretta wins PBA Homefield Bowl Open

LINCOLN, Neb. - For the second
consecutive week, Sin Li Jane of
Malaysia was the player to beat on
the Professional Women's
Bowling Association Tour, this
time earning the top seed for the
stepladder finals of the 2017 Pepsi
PWBA Lincoln Open.
Sin entered the final game of
match play at Sun Valley Lanes
just six pins ahead of amateur

race for the No. 1 seed, and a posi-
tion-round win over Kelly Kulick
of Union, New Jersey, allowed Sin
to maintain her advantage.
The 25-year-old right-hander
compiled a 5-1 record and topped
the Group B match-play standings
with a 5,011 total, which included
30 bonus pins for each win. Seraus
led the way in the Group A stand-
ings with 4,979 total and earned
the No. 2 seed for the stepladder
based on total pinfall for the week,
including bonus pins for each win
in match play.
The two will be joined in the
championship round by No. 3 Liz
Johnson of Deerfield, Illinois, and
No. 4 Kulick, who advanced by
winning their respective group
stepladders.
Sin, a member of Team
Malaysia, now has made four TV
finals in seven PWBA events,
including earning the top seed for
last week's PWBA Wichita Open,
the first event of her 2017 PWBA
Tour campaign.
Despite the continued success,
Sin understands there still is work
to be done.
"I'm glad to finish as the top
seed, but the work is not done
yet," said Sin, who was the
women's champion at the 2016
Malaysian International Open.
"The pattern was quite difficult
this week, but I just focused on
what I'm supposed to do. The most
important thing was to repeat
shots. If I couldn't repeat on this

that's what I think I've been going
on. Maybe it's not my "A" game,
my "B" game, but I work with that

never let yourself get down. You

to the next game or next frame and

Defending champions won't repeat at 2017 USBC Open Championships
The defending Regular Doubles and Regular Team champions were on the
lanes at the United States Bowling Congress Open Championships this week,
putting their titles on the line at the South Point Bowling Plaza in Las Vegas.
Greg Thomas of Irmo, South Carolina, and Christopher Hill of Franklin,
Wisconsin, hit the lanes June 13 and fell short of a return to doubles glory at the
USBC Open Championships, posting a 1,272 total, which is just outside the top
100 this year.
Hill, a 37-year-old right-hander, led the duo this year with a 699 series, while
Thomas, a 48-year-old right-hander, added a 573 set. The roles were reversed in
2016, as Thomas set the pace with 720, and Hill contributed a 681 set, includ-
ing a 296 game, to the 1,401 winning-effort.
The father-and-son duo of Vince and Brandon Biondo of Carpentersville,
Illinois, leads Regular Doubles this year in Las Vegas with a 1,452 total.
BowersBowlingTour.com of Wichita, Kansas, also bowled well at the
Bowling Plaza this week, rolling games of 1,017, 1,049 and 1,095 for a 3,161
total, but it wasn't enough to catch Team NABR of Fairport, New York, which
leads Regular Team this year with 3,266. The defending champions are tied for
16th place.
Zachary Rhoades' 645 series led the effort June 16 for
BowersBowlingTour.com, while the rest of his teammates followed closely
behind. Kris Prather, the runner-up in Regular Singles at the 2011 Open
Championships, added 642, Justin Zwaschka finished with 638, and Brent
Bowers and Mitch Hup closed things out with 619 and 617, respectively.
The group claimed the Regular Team title in 2016 with a 3,377 total at the
National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nevada.
"We had a good game plan and were able to get to the pocket on a regular
basis, but they really got tricky," said Bowers, the veteran of the group with eight
tournament appearances. "The transition really tricked some of us, and our spare
shooting could have been better, but we'll be back. That's the beauty of this
event. You bowl as many as you can and stay sharp in hope of being able to win
a few. For us to win at such a young age, with me being the old guy at 29, I like
our chances. We're going to keep this group together and fight to be a perennial
contender for these Eagles."
Classified Singles gets new leader at South Point Bowling Plaza
Prior to his recent appearance at the USBC Open Championships, Wiley
Collins of Winter Springs, Florida, didn't know much about the event.
Now, he's in position to become a noteworthy part of the tournament's storied
history as the leader in Classified Singles with less than a month to go in the 149-
day event.
Just a few days shy of a milestone birthday, the 49-year-old rookie rolled
games of 202, 257 and 193 at the South Point Bowling Plaza on June 14 to cat-
apult to the top of the standings with a 652 series. Robert Linder of Henderson,
Colorado, previously held the lead with 634.
Collins needed a mark in his final frame to secure the lead, but he and his
teammates had no idea how close he was to taking the top spot. He calmly
closed with two strikes and a nine-count to finish his Open Championships
debut in the spotlight.
"I didn't even think about the possibility of taking the lead or consider that I'd
gotten there," said Collins, a security officer. "I was just out there bowling and
having a good time. I loved the experience and sharing it with my friends and
wife."
It took some time for Collins to get acclimated to the Bowling Plaza and the
biggest stage in bowling, and he opened his tournament career June 13 with a
475 series in team.
Doubles provided some challenges for Collins as well, as he posted games of
141, 168 and 103 for a 412 set, before everything finally fell into place. He fin-
ished his first Open Championships with a 1,539 all-events total.

Clara Guerrero Defends Title at Go Bowling
PWBA Players Championship

ARLINGTON, Texas - Colombia's Clara Guerrero
returns to The Ashwaubenon Bowling Alley in
Green Bay, Wisconsin, as the defending champion
at the Go Bowling Professional Women's Bowling
Association Players Championship.
Warm hospitality and memories from a variety of
previous events already made The Ashwaubenon
Bowling Alley a favorite venue, and it now is extra
special because it's the place where she realized her
dream of becoming a PWBA Tour champion.
The 35-year-old right-hander, who resides in
Pflugerville, Texas, will put that title on the line
against a field of nearly 70 PWBA members looking
to claim the second major title of the 2017 PWBA
season.

Players Championship was broadcast live on CBS
Sports Network.
"I have been to this bowling center many times,
and I know walking back in there this time will be
very emotional for me, especially when I see the
photo of myself with the trophy," Guerrero said.
"Obviously, winning my first title, and doing it in a
major, was a dream come true. It was a goal that was
missing in my career, so it meant so much to win.
Whether it's this week or another time in my career,
it would be an amazing feeling to be a champion
again."
All competitors at the 2017 PWBA Players
Championship will bowl 18 games of qualifying
over two days to determine the 18 bowlers who will
advance to round-robin match play.
Last year, Guerrero qualified for the stepladder as
the No. 3 seed and downed 2015 PWBA Rookie of
the Year Stefanie Johnson of McKinney, Texas, and
four-time PWBA Tour champion Shannon O'Keefe
of O'Fallon, Illinois, before topping two-time reign-
ing PWBA Player of the Year Liz Johnson of
Deerfield, Illinois, in the title match, 199-175.
The win was particularly special for Guerrero
because her husband, Josh Kubiak, was in atten-
dance. He is a huge supporter but doesn't make it to
many events because of his work schedule.
He was in attendance in Green Bay because
Guerrero already had qualified for the champi-
onship round of the 2016 Pepsi PWBA Lincoln
Open, which was scheduled to be taped for delayed
broadcast in conjunction with the finals of the
PWBA Players Championship.
"Having my husband there for my first title made
it extremely special, along with being able to make
it all the way up the stepladder," said Guerrero, who
finished second to O'Keefe at the 2016 Pepsi PWBA
Lincoln Open. "All of the matches came down to the
10th frame, and I made the shots I needed to, so it
was a very exciting way to get my first win."

The momentum of the 2016 season almost came to
a halt for Guerrero, who has been struggling with a
nagging finger injury since March and didn't even
know if she was going to be ready for the Tour's
late-April start.
Ongoing pain and inflammation in her middle fin-
ger left her unable to practice for much of March
and forced her to make on-the-fly and untested
changes in her equipment, highlighted by a much
shorter span, which has been challenging to get used
to.
"Being injured has been as tough for me mentally
as it has physically," Guerrero said. "I didn't get to
practice in March and didn't even know if I'd be able
to start the season. I did, but I wasn't as sharp as I
wanted to be. I've always been a big practicer, but I
haven't been able to. I need to rest between stops to
make sure I am ready for the next week. It definite-
ly has affected my confidence a little bit."
The injury hasn't seemed to affect Guerrero's per-
formance, however, as she is in the top 10 in earn-
ings and points on the PWBA Tour this season, is
among the top 25 in average, has cashed in six of
seven events and has made three match-play appear-
ances.
Thankfully, due to the grip change, extra rest and
being more cautious with her release, the injury has-
n't become any worse through the first half of the

"I have been doing OK and was even close to
making a show, so I'm happy about how things have
been going," said Guerrero, who has spent more
than half her life as a member of the Colombian
national team. "Considering I didn't know if I'd even
be able to finish the first week, I think things have
been going well overall. The injury hasn't gotten
much better, but it also hasn't gotten worse, so that's
good. Unfortunately, even if I feel there's something
I need to work on, I can't practice or train too much.
So, I have to rely on all of the experience I have
gained throughout my career."
Three additional shows were taped in Green Bay
for broadcast on CBS Sports Network.
The finals of the PWBA Wichita Open will air
July 4, the championship round of the Pepsi PWBA
Lincoln Open will air July 11 and the stepladder for
the PWBA Greater Detroit Open will air July 18.

First 300 for Woman Comes During Tournament

Kaitlynn (Egan) Long not only posted her first 300
game, but also in style during the Sophie Hendershot
Memorial 15th Annual Queens Tournament at Sparta
Lanes. She bested her highest previous game of 289.
This 26-year-old right-hander had to in part credit
her husband, Mike. He kept saying that I need a
new bowling ball. I had used the same one for four
years. So I got a new ball and used it in the tourna-
ment.
So was she nervous? Definitely. I was shaking so
bad I dont know how I threw the last ball. And I
wasnt feeling that well. I kept drinking Gatorade
and I guess that kept me calm and focused. The thing
is, I dont normally drink that, which is weird. But
each shot felt good coming off my hand and I hit my
mark consistently.
Kaitlynn has enjoyed the sport for 22 years. She
learned from her mother, Patty, and brothers, Ryan
and Shane. She bowls with Shane in her Friday night
league at Sparta Lanes. In a way she met Mike
because of bowling. He and my brother Ryan
became best friends through bowling.
She is no stranger to success, as her team (Patty
Egan, Patty Ingraham who is a coach at Lenape
Valley High School, and Marie Gagne) won the
Wednesday Night Pot Luck Ladies League.
And now for something unusual but from the heart.
Kaitlynn dedicated her accomplishment to Gus, her
in-laws dog, who passed away on the day when she
had her 300. I also dedicate it to my parents, Phil

With his second-place finish in the PBA Xtra Frame Lubbock Sports Open,
EJ Tackett overtook Englands Dom Barrett for the lead in the Xtra Frame
Storm Cup points standings. Tackett earned 19 points as runner-up in Lubbock
for a total of 53 points for the season. He previously earned 18 points for third
place in the XF Wilmington Open and 16 for fifth place in the Greater
Jonesboro Open.
Barrett, who finished 28th, failed to add to his point total. He is now tied for
second place with the XF Lubbock Sports Open winner, Marshall Kent, who
earned 25 points. Kent and Barrett both have 46 points through four events.
