Reflection paper #2

This new unit so far has been amazing. I have always loved music, and I have always had a big
appreciation for classical musical music, especially baroque. I play classical guitar since I was a kid
and I know some of the pieces that we have to know in this unit. Although I had a good foundation
on music, I never comprehended their strategies in composing music, for example, this unit we
learned about Sonatas and how they have section A followed by a contrasting section B,
followed by a repetition of the first section. These elements came from the binary form of sonatas
where only A and B are played. This structure will help the listener to quickly memorize the
melody. Whether I am playing or listening to it, I feel that my cultural awareness has increased
because knowing this helps me to better appreciate music, not only classical music but also Hymns
of the Church.

We learned the main characteristics of Baroque music, for example, it tends to be very busy and at
least 3 melodies are going on at the same time. I listened to J.S. Bach, Handel & Vivaldi as the main
baroque composers. My favorite one is Four Seasons, Spring movement by Vivaldi When we
learned about baroque, it was not only music but also art and architecture, these includes lots of
light and shadow and S and C shapes. We also learned about neo-classic music, and how it's only
focused in one melody like Water from Hayden. In other readings, I learned a lot about
photography, I thought taking pictures it was as simple as pressing a button and smile in front of
the camera, but now I know it is an art and as such, we have to study it. I have never thought of
the time you take pictures to be a factor in your photos, or how to use a camera efficiently.

To finish up, I have been learning about literature and its structure and although we haven't gone
deep into it yet, I am now familiar we Daniel Defoe as the father of the English novel. I am an
international student, and perhaps lots of Americans already knew what I had just written, but as
for me, I have been learning a lot in this class. I love it.
