Classes (Ball State University)

Digital Production Seminar


A seminar class will offer a variety of opportunities for students to hone their skills while working on a
specific topic, or topics, throughout the semester. Emphasis on creating media for external
distribution. The seminar may emphasize one particular technology, such as audio, video, or emerging
media, or a combination, depending on the project.

Advanced Digital Video Production


Production of complex storytelling projects. Finding the unusual story in the usual place. Shooting
coverage, use of music, and advanced post-production techniques are covered. All students are
required to produce multiple stories.

Digital Audio Production


Covers the basic skills and techniques required for audio production in radio, television, film, and Web
applications. Requires completion of a prescribed array of projects. Various studio and field recording
experiences involving digital equipment are offered.

Media Ethics and Social Responsibility


Political, economic, social, and governmental influences on telecommunications. Examines
contemporary issues that confront media today and the ethics surrounding them.

Electronic Media Law


Examines the relationship between the government and the electronic media in the United States.
History and philosophy of the regulatory process and its effects on traditional and emerging media.

Motion Graphics & Design


Explores emerging media technologies with an emphasis on motion graphic design. Introduces
essential skills in color grading, 2-D animation, graphic design, motion graphics, video compositing,
special effects, and distribution of linear media for television, Web, and mobile devices.

Media Aesthetics
A study of visual aesthetics used in cinema, interactive, audio and video design. Students will learn
image, motion, and non-linear design concepts through thoughtful analysis of classic and
contemporary media.

Media Analysis & Criticism


Critical approaches to multiple media texts, examining their relationships to society and culture.

Screenwriting
Screenwriting for television, film, or new media, with practice in writing and critique. With an emphasis
on story and spec script format.

Writing Electronic Media Copy


Introduction to copywriting for electronic media. Basic principles and elements used in the creation of
advertising and promotion, including advertising objectives and creative strategy.

TCOM Organizations (Ball State University)

BSU Tonight
I served as talent producer for one and a half seasons of the show, as well as crewmember
for three seasons (14,15,16).

BSU Tonight is a student-run late night talk show. The show has in-studio sketches as well as guests
interviewed by our Host. Relevant news stories are spun by the creative writing team to be humorous.
BSU Tonight also incorporates many SNL-like digital shorts that are created outside of the studio. Every
Monday the show is taped live and packages are added throughout the editing process.

The Reel Deal


I served as a crewmember for the first semester of Season 12, holding positions such as floor director,
Teleprompter, and audio.

Reel Deal is Ball State University's premier movie review and entertainment news show. Reel Deal is a
half-hour weekly television show on Cardinal Vision that highlights current, upcoming, and classic
Hollywood films as well as film-related events and productions around campus. In addition, the Reel
Deal conducts interviews with campus filmmakers and records on-location feedback from students at
university film events.
