PAINTINGS/ IGOR SHIPILIN
Igor Shipilin is a painter, a water colorist and a graphic designer born in 1961 in Crimea, Sevastopol. He is educated in the field of arts
including the Ilya Repin Institute for Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in Leningrad, and the Moscow Academy of Printing and has
been involved in professional exhibitions since 1986.
Igor Shipilin is considered to be one of the leading contemporary landscape masters of the region. His paintings represent the romance
of Crimean landscape, contemplative scenes of historical significance and nature. His work has been influenced by the late Crimean
impressionist, Feodor Zakharov.
Shipilin is an active member in the Crimean art scene a member of National Union of Artists of Ukraine and a chairman of the Sevastopol
Union organization as well as the curator for the traditional open air in Sevastopol. In 2008 2009 he received acknowledgment from the
State Russian Museum for his efforts in organizing several projects and exhibitions for Crimean artists. He has been exhibiting actively
since 1989, including a series of exhibitions in London. His works are held in collections in The Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg,
Sevastopol Art Museum of M.P. Kroshitsky, and Simferopol State Art Museum.
What makes Shipilins works unique? His art parades natural and historical attractions as traditionally portrayed by artists from different
eras, but at a first glimpse inconspicuous areas with a leisurely pace of life in small towns. These are the places where the artist spent
his childhood and youth, those places where you always want to go back to reflect and stop the running of time, to draw strength and
inspiration in healing the soul with the simplicity of the usual life and environment - thats the world of the works of Shipilin. Needless to
say that hes an incorrigible romantic. Crimea that Igor Shipilin is masterfully looking to show us is obviously real, but at the same time
poeticized by the artist. There are no dramatic conflicts and psychological bursts, sometimes even sounding of sad notes of nostalgia, a
retreat in solidarity with the author - life is amazing in any form.
The artist has a deep appreciation for the open air work. His paintings can be considered as psychological landscape, where by showing
his native land, he tells the audience about the eternal motherland and faith. His paintings are a fusion of real places (cozy streets, small
yards, old houses, the mountains, the sea), of memories from the past and present, and his own imagination. What is important for Igor
Shipilin is to translate the particular mood of Crimea. He has said to be creating the same work throughout his life, painting the same
motif.
My task is simple, to convey the image of old Crimea, comfort, and the warm blue sea.
The ability of the master - to see the beauty everywhere and adjust it on his canvas, based on his emotions, feelings and memories, this is
what Shipilin does. As a result, ordinary and familiar scenes are transformed into memorable and original compositions.
In front of Igor Shipilins works, the viewer cannot help but continue the artists story about the simple and precious moments of life that
remain with us forever.
