Unit 8: Misplaced Modifiers

When words or phrases modify the wrong words or seem to modify more than one word in a
sentence, they are called Misplaced Modifier.

How to fix Misplaced Modifiers:

In order to fix Misplaced Modifier, you have to rearrange the sentences parts. Remember that
Misplaced Modifier come as close to their target as possible.

The problem with limiting adverbs such as, only, barely, almost, nearly

Misplaced Modifiers: I almost ate all of the sandwiches .

Revised Sentences: I ate almost all of the sandwiches .

The problem with phrases

Misplaced Modifiers: The patient went to the doctor with high fever
Revised Sentences: The patient with high fever went to the doctor.
