SenoScan Enterprise Acquisition Node Operator Manual
APPENDIX C
TECHNIQUE CHARTS
C-l_ WHAT IS A TECHNIQUE CHART?
Note:
‘The technique chart is'a simple look-up table which uses breast thickness
and the x-ray tube’s power response characteristics as criteria for selecting
the technical factors (technique) which determine the x-ray tube’s power
output.
The technique chart is generally used when the Automatic Technique
feature is not available or its use is not indicated.
‘The technique chart provides suggested technique values (kVp and mA) for
a wide range of breast thicknesses and tissue density types.
C2 SENOSCAN TECHNIQUE.CHART.
Note:
‘The basic technique chart provided for use with the SenoScan is shown in
Table C-1.
The SenoSean technique chart provided in Table C-1 is for use only
with the SenoScan Full Field Digital Mammography System, Do not
attempt to use the chart with other x-ray equipment.
When using the chart to determine technique values:
+ By direct examination, determine the patient’s breast tissue density (fatty,
50/50, or dense).
A breast is considered fatty if it contains 70% or more fatty tissue.
A breast is considered dense if it contains 70% or more dense tissue.
+ Compress the breast for the desired projection.
+ Determine the thickness of the compressed breast by observing the
thickness value on the acquisition station monitor.
DO NOT use the thickness value displayed on the LED Display at the
base of the gantry column to determine the technique values.
+ Read the recommended technique values for the breast thickness and
tissue type from the technique chart.
+ Technique values may be increased or decreased to compensate for
thicknesses that fall between those shown on the chart.
