Andaman and Nicobar islands, a union territory of India lie in the Bay of Bengal. It consists of 527 big and small islands. The capital is Port Blair. Population is around 3, 14,000. The coast line stretches for 100Km. Total area covered by the islands is around 8,200 Sq Kms. 92% of the area is covered with rain forest. December month is the best time to visit the islands. These islands are filled with breath taking sceneries. The coasts are really great. You will never feel like leaving this place. Snorkelling is the best way to view the corals. ‘Glass bottom’ boats are also available to view the corals. Limestone caves is also a must see place. These caves were formed millions of years ago. The trip to the caves is also fun, which includes a ride in a speed boat.
Andaman also has a very rich history. Don’t miss
the Cellular jail. This is the place where many freedom fighters were sent to and hanged by the Britishers. Andaman has the Asia’s best beach. The Radhanagar Beach of Havelock Island was ranked No. 1 by TIME magazine. The sand here is soft and water is crystal clear. The waves are also quite big! There are also rubber plantations here. See how they take out rubber from the tree and process it for use.
