Academic Integrity Assignment

After viewing the Academic Integrity Policy and the Common Craft: Plagiarism
Video, please respond to the following questions:

1. Plagiarism is commonly referred to as

the passing off of another persons work as ones own, whether deliberate or
accidental COL academic integrity policy

Plagiarism is when someone copys another persons work, but signs it as their
own.

2. How will student work be checked for plagiarism? (List at least two ways)
They could be checked using the plagiarism identification software Turniti, or
students work could be compared to the work of other students.

3. Sanctions for plagiarism include (list at least two possible consequences):

There are lots of consequences for plagiarism. Some sanctions are receiving a
zero on the assignment, having a note on your student record, and possibly
getting expelled from the course you are taking.

4. What is the difference between accidental plagiarism and deliberate


plagiarism?
Plagiarism is when you copy or use someone elses work and claim it as your own
on purpose. Accidental plagiarism usually happens when you dont clearly site or
refer to your sources, as well as not understanding what plagiarism really is.

5. How can you avoid plagiarism, while still integrating support (ideas and
quotes) in your own work?
To avoid plagiarism, you can do many things. When quoting an author, use
quotation marks around the text, and mention the authors name. Always be
careful to use your own words.
6. Other than the written work, what other items can be plagiarized? Can
you still use these items? How?
Other items that can be plagiarized are music, drawings, speeches, models and
statistics. Yes, you can still use all of the above as long as you give credit to the
source.

7. Do some internet research and find at least one website (not listed in the
Academic Integrity Policy or on the Common Craft Video) that helped
you understand how to avoid plagiarism.

This website gave me 6 different things I could do to avoid plagiarism, and gave
instructions on how to include them in your work as well.

This website explained exactly what plagiarism is, what the consequences could
be, and then explained how to avoid plagiarism. It also gave other little tips to
help write your paper without plagiarizing.
