1.0 INTRODUCTION:

Pile Load Testing for Solar Power Project, was referred to

us by Rays Power Infra Pvt. Ltd.

With reference to above we deputed our engineering team

for the purpose of testing from 26th June 2017 under the
supervision of Mr. Omprakash, Dolphin Testing Lab., Jodhpur,
Rajasthan.

2.0 OBJECTIVE:

Object of the Pile Load Tests to Check the Uplift Capacity,

Lateral Load Capacity and Vertical Load (Compression) Capacity.
As per IS: 2911(IV) 2013 respectively.

3.0 FIELD WORK:

3.1 Scope of Work:

1) As per I.S.: 2911 Part-4 -2013 Clause No. 9.4 Pile Load Test by Pull
Out Method, Routine Test.

3.2 Pile Load Test:

(1) Mobilization of necessary equipment, technical supervisors,

skilled & unskilled labour etc. for successful execution of work.
(2) Carrying out all necessary arrangement for Pile Load Tests.
(3) Fix Hydraulic jack according to direction for loading.
(4) Fix displacement Meters for measurement of displacement of Pile
due to applied load as per IS Code.
(5) Apply load using hydraulic pump and measure displacement at
different load as per scope of work.
(6) Submission of report containing all field data, calculations, results
etc. complete with all respect.

4 METHOD OF TESTING:

The load from structures to the foundation can be compression

(downward), tension (upward), or lateral (sideway). The upward load
carrying resistance of a foundation encompasses most of the load
condition considered. In order to replicate these often enormous loads,
several methodologies have been devised.

4.1 Pull out Load Test Method:

The methodology adopted for Pile Load Test by Pull Out method is
in such a way that the hydraulic jack is made to rest on rolled steel joist
resting on two supports on the ground. The jack reacts against a frame
attached to the top of the pile such that when the jack is operated, the pile
gets pulled up and the reaction is transferred to the ground through the
supports. The framework shall be capable of lifting the entire load
through hydraulic jack.
The dial gauge shall be placed to measure the displacement of piles
of 0.01 mm sensitivity. The dial gauge positioned at equal distance around
the piles and normally held by datum bar resting on immovable supports.
This test accurately predicts the foundation response at required full
Pull Out design load. This method is applicable for both initial and
routine test. This test is also known as Uplift load test.
The framework can be attached to the pile top with the
reinforcement bars which may be threaded or to which threaded bolts
may be welded. It will have threads at top for fixing it to the framework.
For larger loads the number of rods may have to be more and depending
on the set-up these may be put in a line or in any other symmetrical
pattern. For routine tests, the framework is normally attached to the
reinforcing.
Application of Load The test should be carried out by applying a
series of uplift incremental load of safe load on the pile.

The Safe load shall be taken as the least of the following (as per
IS:2911-Part-4 1985 Clause No.9.4)

Pile Load Testing at Solar Power Project Ahmadnagar, Maharashtra

a)TwoThird of the final load at which the total displacement attains

a value of 12 mm or the load corresponding to a specified permissible
uplift, and

b) 50 Percent of the final load at which the load displacement curve

shows a clear break (downward trend).

5 LOAD CALCULATION:

Pressure:-
1 = 10 /2 = 14.50
10
10 /2 = 9.80665 /2 = 1.019716 /2

14.50 = 1.019716 /2
1 = 0.07032 /2

Example 1.

For Example an RCH 206 cylinder with 30.7 cm2 effective area operating
at 100psi pressure will generate what force?

Solution:-

Hydraulic working pressure (P) =

= 100 = 100 0.07032 /2 = 7.032 /2

Cylinder Effective Area A=30.7 cm2

From Basic Hydraulic we know

Force = (Hydraulic working pressure) x (Cylinder Effective Area)

F=PxA
= 7.032 /2 30.70 2 = 215.88 = .
