Preliminary Program
Jointly Sponsored by the AANS
2
On behalf of the program committee, I would like to welcome
you to the 6th International Congress on Meningiomas and
Cerebral Venous System. Taking place in the seaside city of
Boston from September 3 6, 2008, it promises to be an
exciting and enjoyable meeting for neurosurgeons, radiation
oncologists, neuro-oncologists, scientists, nurses and anyone
else interested in these tumors.
Meningiomas and cavernous angiomas are now recognized
to be increasingly important. They are quite common and
decision-making about their therapy is increasingly complex.
Radiation, surgery, observation and perhaps chemotherapy
are important options for their care. The conference will
feature leading speakers in meningioma and cavernous
angioma science and treatment. Among the topics covered
in the program enclosed are surgical techniques for
meningiomas of the skull base, cranial vault and other sites;
surgery for cavernous angiomas; the role and outcome of
radiation for meningiomas; guidelines for surgery; new
understandings of meningioma pathogenesis; and star wars
techniques for treating these tumors noninvasively. The
speakers are the most accomplished and well known in the
world. There are breakfast seminars, plenary sessions,
submitted papers and posters, and How-I-Do-It sessions.
The format will be interactive and comprehensive; this is the
most wide-ranging and up-to-date program on
meningiomas ever presented.
Additionally, there will be a Meningioma Awareness Day
(MAD) for patients, caregivers and professionals on Saturday,
September 6. This will bring research and clinical topics to an
audience of patients, caretakers and family members.
We also think you will enjoy our social program. On
Wednesday night we will have an Opening Reception
featuring a Taste of Boston, Thursday night you can enjoy
Boston on your own, and on Friday night an international
night where national dress is strongly encouraged. The daily
program for spouse and guests will provide a rich possibility
of seeing the history, architecture and educational
