THEME
A ZOO-TIFUL DAY

A zoo-tiful day gives several meanings and it perfectly fits a day at the zoo. Zoo-tiful
is basically the combination of zoo and a beautiful day. The purpose behind deciding on
zoo-tiful is in order to make the day at zoo a wonderful and memorable one. Not only that,
one of the main objectives of the visit to the zoo is to beautify and clean it as spotless as
possible. This is achieved by the volunteering work as planned in this project. By doing
this, the animals would be able to live in a squeaky clean shelter and visitors would have
a delightful time at the zoo with their friends and families. Last but not least, this zoo-tiful
day would allow the participants to interact and get closer to the animals and learn a thing
or two about them.

INTRODUCTION

The nobleness of a society can be determined by the means its animals are
cherished properly or not. As we take into account the thought of benignant the animal
being in our surrounding and to enlighten students on the importance of community
service, FTMSs students willing to machinate a worthwhile project named A Zoo-tiful
Day that deem to be held at Zoo Negara on 25 April 2017. A group of FTMSs students
engages in this community service activity to inculcate partnership, loyalty, and build
stronger connections with the flora and fauna.

OBJECTIVE
The main objective of the zoos shall be to complement and strengthen the national
efforts in conservation and strengthen the national efforts in conservation of the rich
biodiversity of the country, particularly the fauna. The objective can be achieved through
the following protocol: -

Supporting the conservation of endangered species by giving species, which

have no chance of survival in wild, a last chance of survival through coordinated
breeding under ex-situation condition and raise stocks for rehabilitating them in
wild as and when it is appropriate and desirable.

To inspire amongst zoo`s visitors empathy for wild animals, an understanding and
awareness about the need for conservation of natural resources and for
maintaining the ecological balance.

2
Providing opportunities for scientific studies useful for conservation in general and
creation of database for sharing between the agencies involved in in-situation and
ex-situation conservation.

Besides the aforesaid objectives, the zoos shall continue to function as rescue
centers for orphaned wild animals, subject to the availability of appropriate housing
and upkeep infrastructure. Where appropriate housing and upkeep is not available,
State Government and the Central Government would ascertain setting up rescue
facilities in off-the-display areas of the zoo, subject to the availability of land.

BENEFIT OF THE ACTIVITY

Volunteering helps you build new skills. At the zoo, you can volunteer in an area
that interests you the most. More than likely, you will end up learning a lot about
animals, zoos and conservation. You may learn about running events, team
building, interacting with the public or how to handle animals.

Donating your time at the zoo strengthens your sense of community. You are
around a lot of people (staff and volunteers) that have the same interests you
do. Also, you will see the amazing non-profits and other organizations that hold
events there. It doesnt take long for volunteers to stop thinking of it as helping at
the zoo and start regarding it as spending time at our zoo.

You will definitely have new experiences at the zoo. Ever try to heard a peacock
or babysit a red panda? Your abilities may lend themselves to more of an office
environment or setting up for a wedding than working with animals. But, dont be
surprised if you see an opossum in the nature store.
