"Paralyzer" by Finger Eleven

Well last year we lost camp sing Oh Algonquins can't you see
But that's because we were in TJC Except for Chad your tribe is pretty sad
But this year we're Leprechauns
The best tribe in Mah-Kee-Nac History CHORUS
So now you're gonna see
Why Navajo row is the place to be We are the Navajos, and yes we are mostly Jews
Oh, you're not imagining But we have Mexicans and Dominicans too
As forty five Navajos take first place We like Hockey, Soccer and the Swimming pool
Our counselors are cool, always in by curfew
CHORUS:
Well we must sanitize We are the Navajos, our tribe's by far the best
So we do not get struck by flu We go to Cooperstown
I just want some food, can we get more then two? With Schein's hairy chest
Baseball, tennis matches...its just what we do We like Lynn and Bunkie
Quick Coach is coming through And Molloy is cool
Get on your socks and shoes We'd like to trade for Vicky
And Laura Povah too
We like to pretend we're sick
So we can see Leasa, Jen, and Staci We'd like to trade for Vicky
Our only social was fun, we'd like more then one And Laura Povah too
Though last year we got none
Petrie you can't control your Cherokee mob We are the Navajos
I think T-Bod wants your job Now you know how we do

"Mr. Jones" by Counting Crows

Che, Che, Che, Che, Che, Cheyennes, '09! We listen to everything,
Cos we, want to get off to periods...Yeahhhhh
Last time we were at Danbee,
We met their 7th Grade girls, My Cheyennes and me,
Mr Leff struck up a conversation, are living out fairytales,
With a black-haired, ballet dancer. And we, live life Carpe Diem,
Clara's looking at you, oh no no, she's looking at me
Yeah, we all dance while the music plays, Smiling in the hot sun,
The DJ, Hit my favourite tune, Making sure we have sunscreen,
And we all found someone beautiful, With all my friends around me,
Man they're all so beautiful We will never be lonely,

So we get back to camp, sharing our stories, Hey Jess please take my picture,
Che, Che, Che, Che, Che, Made myself, look real good today,
Cheyenne, Socials - Oh Yeah! Wearing the Mah-Kee-Nac colors
That are very, very meaningful...
Wake up in the morning, Yeah well you know that GREEN is my favorite color,
Hear the second song get out of bed, and I felt so athletic yesterday,
Off to breakfast, EGGS AGAIN! If I hurt my ankle,
I'll shake it off and get back out and play!

"Take me home, country roads" by John Denver

Almost summer, camp is calling Upper Senior, Mah-Kee-Nac
Berkshire Mountains It's our home, Cherokee Row
Time for Upper Senior
Life is good here I hear a voice
Better than we dreamed In the morning hour it calls me
Soon three days in Boston, The radio reminds me that program is underway
Socials packed with themes And walking down the road I get a feelin
That I should have been at water-ski, or archery
Cherokee Row, is our home
It's the place, we belong Cherokee Row, is our home
Upper Senior, Mah-Kee-Nac It's the place, we belong
It's our home, Cherokee Row Upper Senior, Mah-Kee-Nac
All the memories that we make here It's our home, Cherokee Row
Danbee ladies, sailing on blue water
Wet and muddy, painted white and green Cherokee Row, is our home
Carnival is coming It's the place, we belong
Banquet and goodbyes Upper Senior, Mah-Kee-Nac
It's our home, Cherokee Row

"That Don't Impress Me Much" by Shania Twain

We know a few tribes who think they're pretty smart Don't get me wrong yeah we think you're all right
But we are good at sport, like woodshop and art But we would like someone to tuck us in at night
We're upper seniors, we're so strong and tall That don't impress me much!!
With our char and good looks, we're a hazard to all
We're one of those tribes, some call us beasts or
Oohhh ohhhhh we are algonquins machines
Oohhh-ohhhhh we are something else We are so fast and so tough we're win camp sing
Danbee girls wanna kiss us goodnight
Okay, so you go to cali...that don't impress me much Come on people tell us, you must be jealous right
So you, get to surf but have you gotta fart
Now don't get me wrong yeah we think you're alright Oohhh-ohhhhh we are algonquins
But that won't kill bugs that are flyin round at night Oohhh-ohhhhh we are something else
That don't impress me much!!
Okay, so you're a leprechaun
I never knew a guy who carried a mirror in his pocket That don't impress me much
And a comb up his sleeve, just in case So you got T-bod, but he talks a lot
But when you go to danbee you know you really Don't get me wrong yeah we think you're alright
gotta rockit But Schein and T-bod know upper seniors win the fight
Cos heaven forbid we lose our style and grade.
That don't impress me much
Oohhh-ohhhhh we are algonquins We think you’re cool but do ya have the touch
Oohhh-ohhhhh we are something else Don’t get me wrong yeah we think you’re alright
But you all need to know that
Okay, so you got female staff...that don't impress me ALGONAUINSSSSS…. Win tonight

The bunk is made up of:
Harris (9), Mickey (9), Noah

Andrew (9), and Aidan (9).
Andrew was here last year
and Noah came last year
for mini-camp. It’s also
really cool that Noah and
Aidan are brothers, so even
though they’re away from
home they have that sense
of family at camp! Their
counselors are Sam, Andy,

And here’s what they

Noah: “The pie eating contest was so fun to watch! My
counselors are so nice and they’ve been there for me since

Aidan: “I really like my counselors, they always have such

good ideas, like for carnival, and they’re always there to

Andrew: “I’m loving my second summer at camp...I can

how to waterski and wakeboard.”

S
omething really cool
about summers at
MKN is that the senior
staff comes up with a
theme for each summer
to keep everyone on
track and focused on the
kind of personal growth
that is super possible to
accomplish at camp!
This summer’s theme,
carpe diem, of course
means to SEIZE THE DAY!
You can see on this page
some great examples of
campers & counselors
seizing the day and talking
about what the term
means to them and what
they’ve done at camp so
far in this respect.

Just as much as camp

is for personal growth,

camp is for humor... and the carpe diem theme was not
exempt from its treatment. The theme was commonly
known as “seize the carp” and fishing jokes abounded
(see photo above). But, on and off of the pontoon boat,
people at MKN have been seizing the day! See the
examples on these pages and be sure to congratulate
your friends and counselors on a job well done!
By taking risks and trying things that are somewhat
intimidating, you grow a lot as a person. Hopefully
everyone at Mah-Kee-Nac this summer was able to
experience this feeling of accomplishment from a job
well done!

mkn way in ‘09: a note from bunkie & lynn

We live it every day here at camp. It is how we make our decisions. At camp, our key staff cannot be at all
places at all times so we give the tool of the MKN Way. If ever faced with a difficult decision or challenged
to have a difficult conversation, the MKN Way guides us all.
Do I feel good about the decision I made? Have I grown from this experience? Do I have a full understanding
of the situation so I can make an informed decision and feel proud of it? Am I supportive of my peers and
the MKN community? Am I involved in what we do at camp and have worked on a positive relationship
with my bunkmates? The list really can go on, all questions derived from our five words of the MKN Way.
It is not a rarity to hear, “That’s how we do it at MKN”, or “Let’s do it this way, the MKN Way”. Our key staff
use these terms often and we have frequently heard the term used on the baseball field, the football field,
the tennis courts, and how we work at the woodshop, or art and media, and especially to the bunks.
It is with pride that we use the words of the MKN Way. They have been carefully chosen and guide our every
decision. We hope all members of our community here take this mentality home and it extends a little piece
of MKN all over the world.

found that Green and White used to be a one-day

White won in the end, but green definitely had a

good run – white was behind for most of the day!
After a morning game of rocks, green had double
white’s score. During afternoon rotations which
included a b-ball shoot-out, lacrosse, broom hockey,
tennis doubles competitions, volleyball serve
competitions, pool team relay, soccer
and the amazing hill-run, green still had
the lead, but white was not far behind.
The score going into dinner was green:

During the evening team building

cohesion and white definitely pulled it
together. The team cheer and plaque
events were great by both teams, but
the white plaque was outstanding and
put white at a slight lead.

I wonder if the competitors got Friendly’s on the way

Coach Jon kept time and commented afterwards that
the boys “gave 110%, and it was truly a show down if I’ve

baywatch-style boat rescue

Sweaty came down to the waterfront one morning to
find THIS!
As you can see...this boat is clearly under water.
Sweaty said something that sounded like, “it looks like
a polar bear had done it, but there’s really no way to
be sure.”
Though there is an investigation pending, the MKN
crew jumped into action and rescued the boat as
though it weighed nothing. Nice job!
