Introduction to basic concepts of prestressing; prestressing systems; analysis of prestress& bending stress;
losses in prestress; deflection; design for flexure, shear and torsion; transfer of prestress; composite
construction of prestresses and in situ concrete; load balancing technique, statically indeterminate structures;
introduction to optimum design.
4. Proposed course description:
Introduction to basic concepts of prestressing; load balancing technique prestressing systems; analysis of
prestress; losses in prestress; deflection; design of anchorage zone, design of prestressed concrete girders.
5. Justification for the change in course description:
Curriculum review experts and CCDCA observed that the existing course content is too large to be effectively
taught over 41-42 lectures, with adequate importance to the critical topics.

cross campus Departmental Committee on Academics (CCDCA)?
