Answer Key
Evaporation is when heat energy turns a liquid into a gas in the form of
vapor.
Condensation is when water vapor turns to a liquid.
Precipitation is when condensation in the form of rain, snow, sleet, or hail
falls to the surface of the earth.
Surface runoff is water from rain, snowmelt, or other sources flows over
the land surface.

Answer Key
Precipitation is any form of water that falls to the
surface of the earth.
Rain is liquid droplets of water that form in clouds
and fall to Earths surface.
Snow is water vapor that turns directly into ice.
This happens as water condenses around an ice
crystal.
Sleet is formed when raindrops freeze while falling.
Sleet is hard and will bounce when it hits the
ground.
Hail is a large, round frozen raindrop that is
repeatedly blown back into high clouds. It grows
bigger until it grows too heavy for the wind to blow
upward. It then falls to earth.
Freezing rain is supercooled droplets that freeze
on impact.
Ice pellets are translucent balls of ice created
when snow melts on the way to Earths surface.
