Physical Features

Location

Pandan is one of the municipalities comprising the province of Antique, Panay Island in Western
Visayas. It is 124 kilometers away from San Jose de Buenavista, the capital town of Antique, 54
kilometers away from the capital of the province of Aklan and 30 kilometers away from
Caticlan, the jump-off point to Boracay Island.

Boundaries

Pandan is bounded on the north by the municipality of Libertad, on the east and northeast by the
province of Aklan; on the south by the municipality of Sebaste and on the west by Cuyo East
Pass, an arm of the China Sea. The municipality of Pandan is located in the northern part of the
province of Antique. It was once the last town bordering the province of Aklan. It has a total land
area of 14,628 hectares and a total population of 24,978 as of 1995.

Climate

Pandan has two types of climate, the dry season and the wet season. The dry months starts from
December and wind up in May. June to September is the most rainy months, with an average of
24 rainy days. The average annual rainfall is 10.27 inches with the greatest precipitation
occurring from June to September. Typhoons and floods occur during the coldest month of the
year with an average of 79.2F.

Topography

The municipality of Pandan is a mixture of flat and hilly terrain. The central and the
northwestern coastal are level to nearly level, the rest of the northern part from slightly to
strongly rolling. The north-eastern and the eastern part is strongly sloping or strongly falling to
strongly hilly to mountainous.

Hydrology

Enumerable creeks and seven major rivers criss-cross the land surface of Pandan. These rivers
include Bugang, Nauring, Burabod, Calabanog, San Andres, Cabilawan, and Jar-ao. Bugang
River, the biggest among the major rivers, cuts through barangays Candari, Sto. Rosario, Guia,
Zaldivar & Mag-aba and drains on the marshland of Mag-aba and Zaldivar. It has been adjudged
as the cleanest inland body of water in the region since 1996, and a national finalist. Bugang
which is a perennial river is the most important water source for the municipality with
remarkable good water quality.

Soil Classification

The soil type of the municipality of Pandan consist of: Umingan Clay Loam, Beach Sand,
Magcalon Sandy Loam, Hydrosol, Patnongon Sandy Clay Loam, Alimodian Sandy Clay and Sta.
Rita Clay.
