PRESIDENTS COMMENTS

The holiday season is here and it is time to celebrate

Please make plans to attend our next meeting on
with food, family, fellowship, and thankfulness for
Saturday, November 19. We need each of you
all our blessings! That is exactly what we did with
present to keep our chapter of key women educators
our first Pi Chapter meeting in September. We
working to promote education. Encourage former

members to join us again and seek new members!

Johnson organized a delicious meal for us as we Enjoy your blessings and have a safe and happy

Twiford took pictures of all members present so she
can update the Pi Chapter Yearbook. She will take
more pictures at the November meeting. During the
business session several projects were discussed
and voted on as we continue the goal of supporting
better education locally and globally. The highlight
of the meeting was the initiation of our new
member, Dr. Naomi Howard. She currently holds
North Carolina certifications for School Counselor,
for Teacher Education in Middle Grades
Mathematics (6-9), and for Exceptional Children.
Since 2012 Dr. Howard has held the position of
School Counselor at Elizabeth City Middle School.
We are honored to have her as our newest Pi President Joy with Dr. Naomi Howard

them to the meetings. I will mail them again in May
to the St. Judes Ranch for Children.just another
way we are helping!

Our Meet and Greet session with coffee from 10:00
until 10:30 will also give you a chance to order your
lunch from the menu. The business meeting will
begin at 10:30. Our speaker will be Amber Davis,
Principal of Camden County Early College. Please
bring your Chapter Notebooks to the meeting;
Claudia Twiford has been working on updating
information and will have new pages available for
us. Thank you, Claudia! Lunch will be served
about 11:45.
PI CHAPTER NEWS
Rachel Gragson presented an organ recital at Christ
Episcopal Church on Sunday, November 6.
She will also be accompanying violinist Bagdat
Abilkhanov for this recital on November 18.
ETA STATE NEWS
Headquarters Needs YOU
Mary Pickett, Headquarters Committee Chairman
The Headquarters Committee would like to ask all
Eta State Chapters to contribute $2.00 per member
toward the upkeep of the Eta State Headquarters
Building. It is important that we continue to support
the maintenance of our Headquarters. As with any
home, each month there are bills that have to be
paid for the building to be in operation. All chapter
contributions for Headquarters are greatly
appreciated and needed.
Now is the time to take part in the Pave the Way
for DKG Memories project. Help celebrate your
chapter members or honor the memory of someone
by purchasing a paving brick for $125.00. Every
chapter will want to be honored by buying a brick
for the Eta State NC Headquarters project.
2017 Eta State Convention
Wilmington, NC April 28-30, 2017
The host chapters are already hard at work
preparing for a memorable convention! Attendees at
the Sunday Brunch will be in for a treat! The
speaker will be Ann Ipock, an award winning
Southern author, speaker, and humorist who tells of
the joys and challenges of being a Southern woman.
She grew up in eastern North Carolina and has lived
in eastern South Carolina. Ann now lives in
Wilmington with her loving, loyal and confused
husband Russell. Her books are available on
Amazon.com

Susan Kuenzel honored at National Convention

The editor of Eta State News, Susan Kuenzel, was Thiswonderfulpartnershipbetweenthechapterand

honored as a Star of the Southeast at the National
Convention in Nashville. She also serves on the
NCAE National Board Certified Teachers
Leadership Team and was the 2016 recipient of the
Karen Garr Ward recognizing her positive impact
on National Board candidate support. A member of
KDG since 1992, she is most proud of the young
educators she has brought into the organization and
continues to mentor.
