Old English period

Main Events that shaped Old English :

Anglos-Saxon invasion (5th-6th. C.): the invasion of the germanic tribes who
contributed to the language with the inflectional grammatical system with male,
female and neutre genres and each with a particular inflection for plural or singular.
King Alfred the Great (9th C.): this king, speaker of Old English, appreciated
education and established being educated in the peoples verrnacular tongue (Old
English) and also unify his army to defeat the Danes , a strategy that helped the
survival of the language.
The Norman Conquest (11th C.): the Norman Conquest of Britain in 1066 where
the french language was spoken by the nobility but not by the low class. However the
language survided because it still was the language of the majority of the population.
These combination of cultures in the territory took prevoius and added new
linguistic influences to the language.
