INSIDE THE MATCHUP: After going 2-2-0
during its four-game homestand, the Flash
heads to Houston for the final time this season.
The Flash is still looking for its first ever win
against the expansion club, losing both its
previous two matches by a score of 2-1. The
Dash is coming off a weather postponed
game on the road against Sky Blue FC.
SET PIECE SUCCESS: In five of the Flashs
past six games, a goal has been scored off
of a set piece, and three of those five assists
have come from corner kicks. Brittany Taylor
has scored both of her goals this season off of
Vicky Losada set pieces, and two of her free
kicks this year have lead to Flash goals. Sam
Kerr has also scored off a corner this season.
Four of Losadas league leading six assists
this year have come from set piece situations.
OFFENSIVE OUTPUT: With Vicky Losadas
third goal of the season against Seattle Reign
in six-straight games since June 7th. Despite
a record of 3-3-0 over those six games, the
Flash has outscored its opponents 12-7. The
Flashs current streak is the second-longest
active streak in the league behind FC Kansas
City, which has scored in all 16 games.
EIGHT CRAZY GOALS: This season, each of
the Flashs eight losses has been by a difference
of just one goal. The Flash and Houston Dash
have both seen eight losses by one goal, the
most in the league. Houston has had eight of
its nine losses this season come by a single
score. Last season, all four of the Flashs
regular-season losses were also by one goal.
POINTS LEFT BEHIND: This season, half of
the Flashs losses have come after holding a
lead in the game. The Flashs two ties have also
come after scoring the first goal of the game. If
the Flash would have won those games, rather
than draw or lose, it would have 36 total points on
the season, 16 more than its current total of 20.
PHYSICAL PRESENCE: Over 16 games this
season, the Flash has commited 155 total fouls,
tied for the most in the league with the Chicago
Red Stars. Carli Lloyd and McCall Zerboni
are first and second in the league for fouls
commited with 28 and 27 fouls, respectively.
HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE: The Flash head
on the road for just one game before returning
for its second three-game homestand of the
year. After its game against the Dash, the Flash
will end the regular season playing four of its
last seven games at home. The Flash have a
home record of 4-3-1. Over half of the Flashs
points have come at Sahlens Stadium this
season, earning 13 of its 20 points in Rochester.
THE PLAYOFF PUSH: Despite the loss
to Seattle Reign FC, the Flash remain in
a three-way tie for fourth-place. However,
no matter the results from Fridays match
between Portland and Chicago, the Flash will
be sitting in fifth come game time Saturday.
The Flash do own the tiebreaker over the
Thorns and the Red Stars. A win Saturday
could jump the Flash as high as a two-way
tie for third-place with the Washington Spirit.
2014 VS HOU: Through two games all-time
against the Houston Dash, the Flash has yet
to earn a point against the expansion team.
The previous two meetings ended similarly for
the Flash, on the losing side of a 2-1 scoreline
both times. This is the final regular season
meeting between the two clubs. With a win
against the Dash, the Flashs first ever season
series with the squad would end at 1-2-0.
WAMBACH OUT A MONTH: Upon returning
from camp with the US Womens National
Team, Abby Wambach will be out at least
two more weeks due to an LCL sprain.
Wambach, who leads the Flash in every
offensive category against the Reign, has
been sidelined since May 31st. It has been
announced that the forward will complete two
weeks of rehab and another two weeks of
training before being considered for game play
#REDALERT: The Western New York Flash
are calling upon fans to help red out Sahlens
Stadium during 2014. After wearing white kits
for home games last year, the Flash will be in all
red for Rochester matches this season. Fans are
encouraged to wear red apparel to games and
use the hashtag #RedAlert when on social media.
NEXT GAME: The Flash begin another
homestand with three games in a row at
Sahlens Stadium. The Washington Spirit visit
Rochester for the first time this season, with
the season series between the two squads at
an even 1-1-0. This will be the final meeting
between the two teams in the 2014 regular
season. Each meeting between the Flash
and the Spirit this season has had at least
four total goals, with the first ending 3-1 for
WNY and the second 3-2 in favor of the Spirit.
