MAT 510 Homework Assignment

Homework Assignment 5
Due in Week 6 and worth 30 points

The data in below table lists country code and the order to remittance (OTR) time for hardware / software
installations for the last 76 installations (from first to last). OTR is the time it takes from an order being
placed until the system is installed and we receive payment (remittance). Because this company does
business internationally, it also notes the country of installation using a country code. This code is listed in
the first column.

Use the date in table above and answer the following questions in the space provided below:
1. Does the OTR time appear to be stable? Why or why not?
2. If you were to use a control chart to evaluate stability, which chart would you use? Why?
3. What can you learn about the distribution of the installation process?
4. Does it appear that the country has an impact on installation time? Why or why not?

Type your answers below and submit this file in Week 6 of the online course shell:

1. Does the OTR time appear to be stable? Why or why not?

a. No, the OTR time doesnt appear to be stable because the country codes
that are the same all have different OTR times, per the chart. The cycle
times have a variety of time intervals as a whole and for each Country
Code. For example, Country code 1 has a range of cycle times between
time frames of 15 to 89. Thus, reflecting special causes within the entire
table and appearing unstable.
2. If you were to use a control chart to evaluate stability, which chart would you use? Why?
a. the best control chart to depict the table would be a time plot run chart. I
believe that the time plot would properly reflect the data of the table
accurately. This type of control chart word allow one to see the
relationship between sets of numbers as a set of points having coordinates
determined by that relationship.

3. What can you learn about the distribution of the installation process?
a. We can learn the variation of the process of the time an order is places
until it is installed and payment is received. We can learn this by either
generalizing the distribution as whole or by country code, we can also see
flaws of completing the task and receiving money, it seems as if this chart
has special cause variations.

4. Does it appear that the country has an impact on installation time? Why or why not?
a. It does not appear as though the country code has an impact on the
installation time. It is hard to decipher that since there are special causes in
each country, and not enough data for majority of the country codes.
