Regarding: Jessie Hermann
To Whom It May Concern:
It is my pleasure to write a recommendation letter for Jessie Hermann. What a terrific student and
person! | have know Jessie for three years because | had her in multiple special education classes
such as ED 251: Assessment, ED 225: The Exceptional Child, ED 359: Instructional Design for
Elementary and Middle School, ED 333: Transition to Post Secondary Life, and ED 434: Instructional
Design for High School. Indeed I know Jessie well!
Jessie has had multiple experiences already in the general education and special education
classroom. As you know, Jessie focus is in middle/high school mathematics as well as special
education. She has had five field experiences and is completing her student teaching at Zeeland
West High School. What | have noticed about Jessie is that she is asking questions while being open
to learning from each placement. Her goal is to improve her teaching and behavioral management
competencies each time she enters a new classroom,
Jessie has also participated in a research project with me. Her research entitled Predictors for a
Successful Teacher Candidate—examined forecasters of an excellent teacher candidate as
determined by the cooperating teachers. Jessie analyzed a number of factors including high school
GPA ad extra curriculum activities, SAT/ACT scores, college GPA, field placement ratings as well as
field placement disposition ratings. She gathered these data points, participated in statistical
procedures and disseminated her finding at the Hope College Celebration of Undergraduate
Research as well as a professional peer reviewed conference entitled Michigan Council for
Exceptional Children. Not many undergraduate students get to participate in such detailed research,
but Jessie was seen as a student who could understand the concepts of research, have the
organizational skills to complete the research, and could effectively communicate the findings of the
research,
Jessie has also given selflessly on her time being part of youth lives with an organization called Young
Life. Jessie is a mentor for Black River students at weekend camps, weekly meetings, and one-on-
one appointments with coffee in hand. Jessie is a person who has strong relationships with youth.
In conclusion, | highly recommend Jessie for a middle school/high school teaching job. Jessie has the
drive for excellence as well as the heart for relationships!
Sincerely,
Dr. Jane E. Finn
