She is well qualified to teach in a variety of settings in either a special education or general education setting. With 2 Secondary Teaching Certificate, a major in Special Education-Leamning Disabilties and a minor in Mathematics, Jessie will be able teach and reach students in both special education (K-12) and general education settings (6-12), particularly at the middle or high school levels. 1 envision her being highly successful and making significant contributions in any of these options. | have been privileged to have Jessie in four courses over the past two years as she has moved through the special education sequence. | have also served as her academic advisor for the bulk of her time at Hope. Because of this sustained involvement, | feel that | have come to know Jessie well. | have found her to be 2 highly perceptive and excellent student with strong Interpersonal skills and a sincere interest in working with students with special needs. Her performance in my classes has been consistently strong. She has displayed an unmistakable understanding of course content and has been an active participant in each course. Jessie has also worked well with her peers on a number of group projects and assignments. She is known as a reliable partner with creative ideas. ‘The Teacher Education Program at Hope College is known for is excellent preparation of beginning teachers and has been ranked in the top tier in Michigan for years. Its unique configuration of a related field placement component with virtually every education course has allowed its students, including Jessie, to gain valuable teaching experience In a wide range of classrooms and programs. Jessie has found herself in local settings, for her general and special education placements. She has worked with elementary, middle and high school aged students and has received highly favorable endorsements from her various placement mentors. With each subsequent placement, Jessie has grown in her understanding of how to meet the challenges presented in today's schools as well as developing her own style and application of theory in the classroom setting. She is currently completing her student teaching experience at the high school! level and from all accounts she is doing very well Beyond these formal field placements, Jessie has accumulated a variety of additional experiences with children, youth and the general public. Her activities have ranged from working as a lunchroom/recess aide, to serving as a Resident Assistant on campus, to volunteering with Young Life as a mentor to youth, These additional experiences have helped to solidify her desire to work with youth with special needs, ‘while learning valuable lessons about leadership and service. Jessie is 2 delightful young woman. She is bright, insightful, introspective and upbeat. She has an excellent ability to grasp difficult material quickly and take it to a level of application. Jessie has superb interpersonal skills and displays a genuine interest in her peers and others. She is recognized for her strong work ethic and caring nature. | believe that Jessie will be a positive addition to the field as she shares her talents and skills with students, staff and parents. She has a genuine, caring nature and will significantly impact the lives of youth in the coming years.
