Withanewsemestercomesanewstart.Forthosewhohavejustarrivedintothe
hallsfortherst me,wehopeyourese linginwellandbeginningtofeelconnected
tothecommunity.YoueachhaveResiden alAssistants(RAs)residingwithinyourhallswho
willbelookingtotouchbasewithyouovertheweek,soifyouvenotalreadyhadthatopportunity,
besuretokeepaneyeoutforthem.RAsareheretoassistyouwithanyques onsorconcernsyou
havearoundlivingintheHalls.
Returningstudents,youwillnowbefeelingveryfamiliarwitheachother,andwithhallslifegenerally.
Besuretomakeaneorttogettoknowyournewfellowresidentsandensurethattheyfeel
welcomed.Youhavenowhadyourrsttasteofexamsandnalgradesforyourrstsemester
ofcoursework.Thisisgreat metoreviewyourstudyhabitsanddecidewhetheryoufeel
youareontherighttrackforsuccess,orwhetherneedtomakeanewplanofac on.Asyou
considerthis,besuretolookattheworkshops,resources,andservicesthatareavailable
toyou.MakethemostofthenewlyupdatedMasseyApp,andtheMasseyWebsite,there
islotsofusefulinforma onhere.TheCentreforTeachingandLearningisalsoareally
goodservicetocheckoutifyouneedtoimproveyourassignmentskills.

welcometoallthoselookingtojoinusinthecomingyear.WealsohavetheHallsBall,anda

ThisissueIwouldliketotalkpsycho-ac vesubstancesakalegalhighs.Whatwasoncereferredtoaslegalhighs
are no longer legal and possession of a psycho-ac ve substance can lead to charges being laid and court me.
Whilemanymaythinkthisisabitheavy-handedforproductsthatwereoncefreelyavailable,thesedrugs,which
are unregulated,canbe extremely dangerous. Not onlycan theybe highly addic ve, some are currentlyon our
streetsmixedinwithavarietyofdierentsubstancesthatcanbeharmful.Recentexamplesthathavecometomy
a en on are of users of psychoac ve substances who have been suering from stomach lesions, which is
believedtobelinkedtotheiruseofthesesubstances.Andwhilemostofusareverycarefulaboutwhatweeat,
somepeoplecon nuetoconsumethesesubstanceswithnoideawhattheyaretaking.
So,ifyouoryourfriendsusethesesubstancespleasethinkcarefullyaboutwhatyoumaybeconsuming,andmaybeconsiderstopping.
