In my classroom, we have a goal of mastering Frys First 100 words by Kwanzaa or
the 2nd week of December. I chose the deadline of Kwanzaa because this is a holiday that majority of my students families celebrate in tandem with Christmas in December. To reach this goal, on the first day of school I sent home Frys First 100 Words with a letter explaining our scholars goal, in addition to including an attachment, which explained fun and engaging word study at home. I will communicate academic progress towards this goal, through our end of the week assessment each week, which measures students knowledge of our 8 learned sight-words for the week. This end of the week assessment stands as a formative assessment, which allows at home stakeholders and myself to acknowledge his or her scholars progress and make adjustments moving forward to provide growth. On Wednesdays scholars that received a 70 % or below have the opportunity to re-take our end of the week assessment. It is my hopes that as a result of our partnership this school year families will understand the importance of early childhood literacy and how to continue to support and encourage their scholar as a growing independent reader and writer.
