Greetings of the Season!
It gives me immense pleasure to share
with you that our Hontble Prime Minister,
Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated
Country 1st International Exchange
setup by BSE in GIFT IFSC on Sth January
2017. The historic development has put
India on the global capital markets map.
Several leading Banks as well as Insurance
companies are already operating out of
GIFT IFSC, operationalizing of capital
markets vertical is a major step forward
towards development of a complete
ecosystem for a globally competitive
financial hub, After BSE, the other major
capital market player, National Stock
Exchange (NSE), is also going to open its
International Exchange at GIFT IFSC.
|lam happy to share with you that the 8th
edition of Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit,
2017 had hosted a special session on the
Business Potential of IFSC in India’ on
January 11, 2017. The session was
addressed by Hon'ble Union Minister of
State for Finance and Corporate Affairs,
Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Dy. Chief
Minister of Gujarat, Shri Nitin Patel &
Governor of Reserve Bank of India, Shei
Urjit Patel. The discussion explored the
range of financial services available for

domestic and global players and also
showcased India's emergence as the next
Global Financial Hub. In a years time, GIFT
IFSC has already crossed cumulative
business transactions worth over US$ 2
billion and is fast emerging as a Global
Financial Hub on the lines of London,
Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore & New York.
Presently, more than 5000 employees are
‘working in GIFT Gity and it is expected that
by end of 2018 this number will cross
10,000. GIFT has embarked on an
‘expansion track and in the coming days,
we will see more such developments
taking place.

presence in the list of Global Financial
Centres and | am sure with support from
all of you we would keep on achieving
‘newer heights.

BSE rings in trading at newly launched India INX
India International Exchange (India INX),
the countrys first global bourse in GIFT
City was inaugurated by Honble PM of
India on January 09, 2017. India INX is a
wholly owned subsidiary of the Bombay
Stock Exchange (BSE) and in the first phase
it is offering trading in Stock futures of
Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Apple etc
India INX commenced its trading from
January 16, 2017 in the presence of
Hon'ble Union Minister of State for
Finance & Corporate Affairs.
BSE’s International Stock Exchange-INX is
a major step forward towards
development of a complete ecosystem for
a globally competitive financial hub. More
than 80 trading members with BSE have
received approval from the Ministry of
Corporate Affairs to set up businesses at
IFSC in GIFT City. Intemational Brokers,
Non Resident Indians (NRIs), Foreign
Residents and Investors as well as Indian
Financial Institutions with requisite RBI
permissions to engage in overseas trading,
are allowed to trade through the
exchange,
India INX would remain open for trading
for 22 hours every day with the exchange
‘opening at 4:30 a.m. when exchanges
‘open in Japan and closing at 2:30 am.

Seminar on Business Potential of IFSC in India
Government of India through Department of Economic
Affairs (DOEA), Finance Department - Government of
Gujarat and Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT
City) had organized an International Seminar on "Business
Potential of IFSC in India” on January 11, 2017 at Mahatma
Mandir, Gandhinagar as a part of Vibrant Gujarat Global
‘Summit 2017. The Seminar brought together leaders of
Banking, Insurance Companies, Capital Market Players,
Regulators and Senior Government officials to deliberate
on the Business Potential of IFSC with regards to Banking,
Insurance & Capital Market players.
Hon'ble Union Minister of State for Finance & Corporate
Affairs Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal was the Chief Guest and
Hon'ble Dy. Chief Minister, Government of Gujarat, Shri
Nitin Patel had his special presence for the said seminar.
Hon'ble Governor, RBI, Shri Urjit Patel delivered a special
address to the participants.

Important Developments At Gift City
MCX operationalizes its new office at GIFT City
India’s premier Commodity bourse, MCX opened up their Business Continuity (BC)
and Disaster Recovery (DR) centre and a training and education facility at GIFT City.
Shri Vijay Rupani, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat, inaugurated the new MCX
office on January 31, 2017 which would prepare the company in the event of
extended service outages caused by factors beyond control (e.g., natural disasters,
man-made events), and to restore services to the widest extent possible in a
minimum time frame
MCX would also have their in-house software development division for data
analytics, internal automation, ancillary applications and value add services to
members. Additionally, MCX has also planned to establish a training facility at this
space to conduct training programmes and disseminate knowledge for the
enhancement of skills and capabilities of students and working professionals,
desirous of making a career in commodity market.

On January 03, 2017, for the first
time Ministry of Commerce &
Industry amended a rule allowing
foreign firms to set up offices and
advise clients from GIFT City.
Current regulations do not permit
Multinational Law firms to
operate in the country. Indian Law
and Accountancy firms are also
not allowed to operate from any
of the Special Economic Zones.
The same rule has got amended
and now it allows not only Indian
Law or Accountancy firms to set
up a base in GIFT City but even
Multinationals can directly advise
upon international disputes or
arbitration by setting up a base in
GIFTSEZ.
