RESOLUTION NO.

2007-17

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY


OF FORT MYERS, FLORIDA, ESTABLISHING FUNDING
FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE HOME-A-RAMA
PROJECT TO PROVIDE INFILL HOUSING
ALTERNATIVES TO THE RESIDENTS IN CITY OF FORT
MYERS, FLORIDA, AND PROVIDING FOR AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.

WHEREAS: The City of Fort Myers desires to encourage the

development of good housing stock that is affordable to moderate

income residents within the City; and

WHEREAS: It is the goal of the City to support the development

of attainable housing opportunities for essential workers in the City of

Fort Myers; and

WHEREAS: The City of Fort Myers has encouraged developers

to contribute to the "Attainable Housing Trust Fund" to be used to

maintain and develop attainable housing; and

WHEREAS: The City is considering alternatives housing types

to provide housing to meet the needs of city workforce income levels;

and

WHEREAS: The City owns seventeen (17) vacant lots bounded

by South Street, Jeffcott Street, Midway Avenue, and Henderson

Avenue that are zoned for residential development.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL

OF THE CITY OF FORT MYERS, FLORIDA, that:

1. The City of Fort Myers will support the development and

promotion of a Home-a-Rama to showcase attainable housing within

City. The Home-a-Rama will be a 16 day display of fully furnished and

fully landscaped custom affordable homes that demonstrate the latest

in home construction, design, furnishings, and technological

innovations.

2. The City of Fort Myers will designate seventeen (17) vacant
lots bounded by South Street, Jeffcott Street, Midway Avenue, and
Henderson Avenue owned by the City for attainable housing and
provide funds for the initial development of the lots through the
Housing Trust Fund.
3. The City has budgeted $75,000.00 and will budget an
additional $100,000.00 for the Home-A-Rama project.
4. The City will act as the applicant for the planned unit
development on the seventeen (17) vacant lots bounded by South
Street, Jeffcott Street, Midway Avenue, and Henderson Avenue. The
planned unit development process will allow for the flexibility of lot size
and configuration as well as creative solutions to attainable housing
development.
5. The City will work with the Department of Environmental
Protection to implement a cost effective solution for mitigating the lime
sludge that presently exists on some of the lots.
6. A Selection Committee will be formed to include but not
limited to professionals in engineering, environmental, architecture,
building, and development. The committee will participate in the
selection of potential developers, landscape and interior design firms,
selection of the housing type and styles to be included in the
Home-a-Rama.
7. The City will enter into a formal agreement with each of
the selected developers and contractors that will outline the
expectations of both parties.
8. This resolution shall become effective immediately upon
adoption.
