3 Edakkal Caves

years old and the caves seem to have been
inhabited at various stages in history.
The caves are formed due to a fissure in the
rock. Legend says that the cave was formed
when an arrow released from the bow of
Lord Rama, struck this rock surface, creating
the fissure.
4 Thirunelli Temple
Mananthavady, Kalpetta, Wayanad,

Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the history of the
temple dates back to 3000 years. Archives
and research have shown that Thirunelli
Temple was an important spiritual centre
during the reign of Bhaskara Ravi Varma, a
Chola king ( 9621019 CE). It remained
largely inaccessible due to impassable
mountains and thick forest cover. Today, the
temple is also known as 'Sahyamala
Kshetram' or 'Kashi of the South'.
The temple has beautiful granite columns
which add an aesthetic appeal to the whole
architecture. A stream runs beside the
temple, which provides water for the temple
usage. The temple also has a pond, at the
centre of which is a stone slab with the
impression of Lord Vishnu's feet.
5 Wayanad
The lush Wayanad patch of the Western
Ghats is largely a realm of hilly rainforests,
plantations, (coffee, pepper, cardamom,
rubber...), indigenous tribes, and wildlife
such as the Giant Malabar Squirrel or the
endangered Nilgiri langur. Wayanad is
Keralas least populous district. This adds to
its charm; youll be captivated by the
serenity and slow pace of life. The district
has three main towns: Kalpetta,
Mananthavady and Sulthan Bathery.
Kalpetta is the district headquarters and
usually, the first stop. Adjoining spots
Lakkidi and Vythiri are well known for their

Sulthan Bathery to access the Wayanad
