IN THE BEGINNING

In the beginning was the Egg

Hidden deep in the golden time
Basking in the rays of the Sun
The orb above mirrored within

No one daring to see the nest

For fear of hurt from beating wings
Mother guards her joy from outside
With feather down and stubborn love

The day of hatching does arrive

The treasure within comes outside
Armour cracks and splits wide apart
Mother Duck's joy blinks in the light

But wait her joy is not alone

Two sets of eyes gaze up at her
A feathered daughter and a son
A mother's hope now multiplied.
