Lesson idea implementation: This video lesson is to be introduced immediately after the class discussion on
antibiotic resistance that concluded the audio portion of the lesson addressed in the audio portion of the
portfolio. The teacher will introduce the video to the students at the beginning of a lesson on Darwins theory
of Natural Selection. The purpose of the video is to gain students attention from the beginning of the lesson
and provide visuals that will aid in students understanding of antibiotic resistance.
After the video is shown, students will be broken into groups and will discuss how their ideas on antibiotic
resistance have changed. The groups will then share what they discussed and the class will spend ab out five
minutes discussing what they know about natural selection. The teacher will then begin a direct instruction
lesson on the Theory of Evolution and Darwins Theory of Natural Selection. After students have created their
podcasts (refer to audio portion of the portfolio), students will create a video explaining how environmental
factors can effect natural selection. The students will need to provide specific examples of environmental
factors, both artificial and natural, that occur in real-life ecosystems.

Students will be allowed to work in groups and videos will be presented to the class. Stude nts will receive
four to five days to create their videos. Student video projects will be assessed based on presentation,
creativity, and content. The lesson will end when all student presentations are completed.

Importance of technology: The use of multimedia allows students to engage in learning and create a new
product based on past knowledge.

Inspiration (optional): Video in the presentation was obtained from TED.com

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Student privacy will not be an issue as student creations will only be
seen in class and will not be shared to the public. The teacher will take great care in assuring student work
does not fall into the wrong hands when students share it with them.
