Working in Tellabs 6300 Manager Vol. 5: Using the Core
Functions of Element Management

Preface

The purpose of the whole The documentation set "Working in Tellabs 6300 manager" describes the core
documentation set functionality of Tellabs 6300 manager and covers:
The main graphical user interface of Tellabs 6300 manager and how to op-
erate in it. The windows for the more specialized operations (creation and
management of trails, for example) are mentioned briefly, with reference
to the relevant manuals.
The elements of the network model and how to create the network view.
The general ("core") functions of network element management.
The entity browser, which provides a graphical user interface for working
directly with the network model entities as represented by a TeMIP hier-
archy.
Handling of alarms as carried out in TeMIPs alarm handling windows.
We assume that you are familiar with Microsoft Windows and that you know
how to navigate in a tree structure, how to activate pop-up menus and so on.
Note: The documentation set has been split up into 5 separate volumes:
Volume 1 describes the main graphical user interface and the general
principles of operation in Tellabs 6300 manager. See [1].
Volume 2 describes how to create the model of your network with the net-
work editor. See [2].
Volume 3 describes how alarms are displayed and handled. See [3].
Volume 4 describes the windows and functionality of the entity browser.
See [4].
Volume 5 describes those functions of Tellabs 6300 manager that apply to
the management of all network element types.

The structure of this This volume is structured as follows:

Style conventions The following style conventions are used:

Names from the screen
A bold typeface is used for names of, for instance, windows, operations,
fields, and buttons when the names appear on the screen (example: the Net-
work Management window). This makes it possible to use the name alone
when it is clear that we are referring to, for instance, a button (example:
Click OK). Note that bold typeface is also used in other contexts.
Text from the screen
Quotation marks are used for text strings from the screen (example:
Identifier too long).
Words to be substituted.
<Italics in angle brackets> are used for words to be substituted by a specific
member of the group that the word represents (example: <[rack ID-subrack
ID-slot ID-port ID] Port Type> where rack ID-subrack ID-slot ID-port ID rep-
resents for example 00-0-01-001 and Port Type represents STM-4). Note that
italics are also used in other contexts.
Note: In sequences to be entered, the angle brackets are omitted to avoid con-
fusion (example: The format is yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss).
Words to be entered
A monospaced font is used for words to be typed exactly as they appear
(example: Enter LND vc4 NEMatrix london_x1 in the A End field).
Menus
Arrows are used for indicating the menu structure in instructions on how
to select a certain menu item (example: Select File Create).

1 Tellabs 6300 Manager in EM-only Mode

Components in the The Tellabs 6300 manager has two main components: a component handling
Tellabs 6300 manager network management and another handling element management. You can
either have a license for both components or a license for the element manage-
ment component only.

Definition of EM-only A Tellabs 6300 manager running in EM-only mode is a Tellabs 6300 manager
mode licensed for the element management component only.

No direct indication of There is no direct indication that a Tellabs 6300 manager is running in EM-
EM-only mode only mode. When you look at a Tellabs 6300 manager, which is licensed for
both main components, and one, which is running in EM-only mode, you will
not be able to see any immediate difference. The differences will appear when
you start to operate the systems.

Functions available in The functions available in a Tellabs 6300 manager running in EM-only mode
EM-only mode are described in the NE-specific element management manuals (see [5], [6],
[7], [8], [9], [10] and [12]). A few limitations to these functions occur. The lim-
itations are described in the table in Limitations of a Tellabs 6300 manager in
EM-only mode on page 12. Besides from the functions described in the NE-
specific element management manuals, you can carry out the functions de-
scribed in the following table.

2.1 Graphical Representation of a Network

The network editor You create and edit the graphical map of your network in the network editor.
As shown in the figure, the Network Editor window contains the necessary
tools for adding network element icons to the domain map, for creating sub-
domains, for drawing graphical objects such as lines and so on.

For a description of the network editor and its use, see [2].

Graphical objects The element management functions do not provide the possibility to draw
lines between NEs to illustrate the configuration of your network. To do this,
you can use the graphical tools provided by the network editor. The figure
shows the tools, which consist of lines, circles, squares and text.

It is also possible to place a background image on your domain map.

2.2 Configuring an NE

Activating element The various functions for configuring and managing an NE are activated via
management functions the pop-up menu of the NE icon in the Network Management window, as
shown in the figure.

NE name in window titles If you are configuring several NEs at the same time, you need to be able to dis-
tinguish between the configuration windows related to the various NEs. To
make such distinction easier, the name of the relevant NE is displayed in the
title bar of the window and, if relevant, also the ID of the relevant object. The
figure shows, as an example, the title bar of the Edit Label for [<Rack ID>] Rack

window, where the window title indicates not only the relevant NE but also
the relevant rack in the NE.

2.3 Function of the Common Command Buttons

Command buttons The common command buttons are those that are found in the bottom of the
windows. These buttons and their functions are described in the following ta-
ble:

Command button has the following function:

The OK command button sends any changes made in a

window to the relevant database (the database of the
Tellabs 6300 manager or the NE), and closes the win-
dow.

The Apply command button sends any changes made in

the window to the relevant database (the database of
the Tellabs 6300 manager or the NE) without closing the
window.

The Cancel command button discards any changes

made in the window since it was opened or since the
Apply button was last used, and closes the window.

The Refresh command button refreshes the information

presented in the window (by reading up-to-date infor-
mation from the NE in question).

The Update command button sends any changes made

in the window to the database of the NE without closing
the window, and then reads up-to-date information
from the NE and presents this information in the win-
dow. So Update = Apply + Refresh.

The Help button launches the on-line help.

In windows where no changes can be made, or where

only an immediate operation can be performed, the
Close command button replaces the OK and Cancel but-
tons.

This button has the same function as the Cancel or Close

command buttons, but is found in the top right-hand
corner of many windows.

2.5 Alarm Coloring

Alarm colors NEs, racks, subracks, slots, modules and connectors all show alarm colors ac-
cording to the highest alarm severity of the alarms on the given object. The ta-
ble describes which type of alarms the different objects show.

Object show the following alarms

NE Any alarms that can not be identified as coming

from a specific rack, subrack, slot, module or a
port on a module.

Rack Alarms from the rack object.

Note: In a Tellabs 6325 node, Tellabs 6335 switch
node, Tellabs 6340 node, Tellabs 6345 node and
Tellabs 6350 node the rack cannot issue any
alarms, so the severity will always be OK.

Subrack Alarms from the subrack object.

Note: When the subrack becomes too small to
show its internal objects, its alarm color will also
reflect alarms from its internal objects.

Slot/Module The most severe alarm from the slot or module or

from ports associated with this module (except
for TISI ports).
Note: If a rack, subrack and slot number can be
extracted from the naming attributes of an object
with alarms, then the alarms are shown on that
slot.

TIP module The TIP missing alarm if present.

Connector Alarms from expected TISI ports.

Alarm colors for The defect state of protection units is shown with the colors of the following
protection units alarm severities:

Defect Status Alarm Severity

Failed Critical

Degraded Major

OK Clear (pseudo severity)

To change the coloring This procedure describes how to change the coloring options of the alarms in
options for alarm tables the Alarm Log or Current Alarms windows. You can remove the alarm severity
colors from the alarms, or show the severity colors in the Severity column
only, or show the severity color across the whole row of the table in the win-
dow.

Step Action

1 Select Coloring Options in the pop-up menu of the table.

2.6 Operating on Tables in the Element Management Windows

To change the item order You can change how the items in a table are sorted, using the values of which-
in a list ever column you prefer as the sorting criterion. This is done by clicking in the
relevant column header, as described in the following procedure.
This does not apply to all tables.

Step Action

1 If the sorting order is not indicated in the column header, click once
on the column header.
An indicator appears, showing the current sorting order of the col-
umn items.

In the example, the indicator shows an ascending sorting order.

2 Click again on the column header.

The indicator changes to show the new sorting order, and the items
in the table are arranged according to the new sorting order.

Functions of Element Management

To move a column You can move a column to another position in the table simply by clicking on
the column header and (with the mouse button still pressed) dragging the col-
umn right or left to its new position. As the column moves across the table, the
other columns shift aside one by one to fill the empty space.
The procedure shows how you move a column. In the example below the Link
State column is moved two positions to the right.

Step Action

1 Place the cursor on the column header and start dragging the col-
umn.
The empty space left by the column is shown.

2 Drag the column across the table.

As the column starts covering the second half of another column, the
covered column shifts to fill the empty space.

In the example, the Octets Sent column (which was previously to the
right of the Link State column) has shifted to the left as the Link State
column moved over its center. A new empty space indicates where
the moving column can now be placed.

3 Drag the column to its new position in the table.

An empty space is indicated in the position where you want to place
the column.

line of the column and drag the line to the new column width.
The other columns in the table are resized automatically, as illustrat-
ed in the figure.

To resize the width of all This procedure describes how to resize all the columns in a table. This changes
the columns to fit the width of all the columns in the table so that the headings and text in the
individual columns is visible.
Note: If some cells have a text length that is much longer than is normal, or
the size of the window physically restricts the maximum possible width

look for it in the index or table of contents (Index and Contents tabs).

2.9 User Profiles

Purpose of the security The security system of the Tellabs 6300 manager is based on the use of user
system profiles. Each user can be registered in a specific user group. His user group
profile determines which windows he can access, and which operations he
can use.

User groups As a standard four user groups are recognized by the Tellabs 6300 manager,
but it is possible for a system administrator to define customized user profiles.
Each user group provides access to a specific set of windows and enables a
specific set of operations to be performed. The windows and/or operations
that can be accessed by a particular user profile cannot be changed. The table
provides details about the four standard user groups.

User Group/User Profile Access conditions

nm2100_system_manager Can access all windows and perform all avail-

able operations.

nm2100_network_manage Can only access a certain set of windows, and

r perform a certain set of operations.

nm2100_network_operato Can only access windows and operations that

r are necessary to monitor the network and
make routine changes to accessible network
elements.

nm2100_guest Can only access a certain set of windows and

has only read-access rights.

Changing your user Only members of the system administrators group are allowed to change your
group membership membership of a user group.

3 Assigning Identifiers to NEs

Identifiers to be assigned A number of labels can be assigned to each NE in a telecommunications net-

to an NE work to identify it as a unique piece of equipment. The following labels can be
assigned to an NE:
A name for the NE icon that represents the NE in the Network Management
window. This name is stored in the database of the Tellabs 6300 manager
and must be unique for an NE in a particular network.
For a description of representing an NE with an NE icon, see [2].
A name and location label for the NE itself (this enables you to give the
NE a name that is easy to locate geographically). The labels are stored in
the physical NE.
See 3.1 Assigning a Name and Labels to an NE on page 34
User-defined labels to identify the hardware, software and other compo-
nents of the NE.
Refer to the users manuals for the individual NE types to see a list of com-
ponents to which user labels can be assigned. See 3.2 Assigning User-De-
fined Labels to Parts of an NE on page 35.
An NE address (an NSAP address). The NSAP address is assigned when
the NE is created but can be changed later.
See 3.3 Changing an NEs Address on page 38
A password (this provides additional access security). The default setting
for an NE is without password.
See 3.4 Changing an NEs Password on page 42
Only the NE address is mandatory. The address of the NE is called an NSAP
address and must be unique. This address makes it possible for the Tellabs
6300 manager to communicate directly with, and therefore manage, the NE in
question.

3.3 Changing an NEs Address

To change the NSAP The NSAP address is assigned to the NE when the NE is created. However,
address of an NE you can change the NSAP address of an NE as described in this procedure.
Warning: An NSAP address should not be changed unless network planners
have authorized the change. In this case, you must know exactly
which NSAP address to enter during the following procedure. You
must be especially aware of the consequences of changing the area
address part of an NEs NSAP address. If you change the area ad-
dress part of an NEs NSAP address, it can render the NE and many
other NEs unreachable from the management center. For example,
if the NE in question has a head-end (gateway) function in the tele-
communication network, all other NEs in the ring will be unreach-
able from the Tellabs 6300 manager.
For more information about assigning NSAP addresses and a description of
their format, see [2].

Step Action

1 Select Equipment NE Address... in the pop-up menu of the NE icon.

The NE Address window appears, with an Information window in
front of it. This window informs you about the use of the NE Address
window.

38 MA335 Rev. G1

Working in Tellabs 6300 Manager Vol. 5: Using the Core
Functions of Element Management

Step Action

2 Click OK in the Information window.

The Information window closes, and the NE Address window be-
comes active. The contents of the window depends on whether the
NE supports IP DCN management, or not.
This window is valid for NEs that do not support IP DCN manage-
ment.

This window is valid for NEs that support IP DCN management.

The Current NSAP Address group box shows the current NSAP ad-
dress of the NE.

3 Select the lower User Defined radio button if it is not already selected.
The lower Area: and Node ID: fields become active.
Note: If the NE already has a user defined address, this address is dis-
played in these fields and the last four characters are selected in the
Node ID: field (typically the characters that need to be changed).

MA335 Rev. G1 39
Tellabs 6300 Network Manager 3 Assigning Identifiers to NEs
Working in Tellabs 6300 Manager Vol. 5: Using the Core
Functions of Element Management

Step Action

4 Enter the new NSAP address of the NE in the Area: and Node ID:
fields.
Note: Be aware of the following:
490001 is the default area address given to Tellabs equipment
you must read the warning in the introduction to this procedure
before changing this value.
The area address is followed by the System/Node Identifier,
which is always 12 digits in length. All Tellabs equipment is given
a default System/Node Identifier corresponding to the Ethernet
address of the NE.
Up to 10 last-used NSAP addresses can be stored in the drop-down
lists in this window. However, these previously used addresses are
lost when Tellabs 6300 manager is shut down.

5 Carefully note down the new NSAP address.

If this address is not noted, or it is noted incorrectly, it may be neces-
sary to read it directly from the NE using a local Tellabs 6300 craft
terminal.

6 This step is valid only for NEs that support IP DCN management.
For example, Tellabs 6345 FP3.1 or higher and Tellabs 6350 FP3.1 or
higher.
If this NE uses CLNS tunnels, contains an ETEX module or you want
to use IP DCN instead of OSI DCN, you must do the following:
a) If you want to manage the NE via IP DCN, select Enable IP Ac-
cess to Node.
b) If IP traffic destined for a CLNS tunnel is arriving on the manage-
ment port, select Enable Management Ethernet Port for IP Traffic.
c) If you have selected one or both of the options in the steps above,
type in the IP address for the management port and the correct
subnet values for the network in the IP Address field and Subnet
Mask field, respectively.
d) If there is a router between your management port and the net-
work management system, in the Default Gateway field type in the
IP address of the gateway to access the management system.

7 This step is valid only for NEs that support IP DCN management.
Decide how you want the network manager and/or extended craft
terminal to communicate with the NE.
In the Registered Address Type in Manager group box, select one of
the following:
NSAP - this address is used by the management system to com-
municate with the NE.
IP - this address is used by the management system to communi-
cate with the NE.

Working in Tellabs 6300 Manager Vol. 5: Using the Core
Functions of Element Management

Step Action

8 Click OK.
If this NE address change procedure is performed from the manage-
ment center, three operations occur: (1) the new user-defined address
is stored on the flash card of the CMCC module as part of the NEs
configuration data; (2) the NE is reset (during the reset, the manage-
ment system will be unable to communicate with the management
system (it takes from 10 - 45 minutes, depending upon how much
equipment the NE contains), but traffic will not be affected); and (3)
the NSAP address of the NE in the management system is automati-
cally changed too, so that the management system does not lose con-
tact with the NE. However, if the NE address change procedure is
performed using a Tellabs 6300 craft terminal, only the first two op-
erations occur.
Note: If the CMCC module needs to be replaced at any time, its flash
card can be moved to the new module that replaces it. As the user-de-
fined NSAP address of the NE is included in the configuration data
on the flash card, the management system will be able to quickly re-
establish contact with the NE after the new module is inserted.

9 If the NE address change procedure has been performed using a Tel-

labs 6300 craft terminal, call the management center and let them
know that the address of the NE has been changed, so that they can
alter its address in the management system and re-establish contact
with it again.

Considerations on using If you select the Default radio button in the New NSAP Address group box and
the default NSAP click OK, the CMCC modules default NSAP address will be stored on its flash
address card as the NEs current address. If the CMCC module is replaced at any time
and its flash card is moved to the new module that replaces it, the manage-
ment system will be able to quickly re-establish contact with the NE after the
new module is inserted.
Warning: When you reuse a flash card bearing the default NSAP address of a
replaced CMCC module, you may introduce a risk of having two
NEs with the same NSAP address in the network. This may happen
if you use the replaced CMCC module somewhere else in the net-
work later on, and again use the default NSAP address of this mod-
ule. To avoid this risk, you should change the NSAP address of the
NE with the new CMCC module (containing the "old" flash card) to
the default NSAP address of this CMCC module (or to a user-de-
fined NSAP address).

3.4 Changing an NEs Password

Password for an NE Each NE can be assigned a password. Assigning a password to an NE pro-

vides it with additional access security (that is, in addition to its NSAP ad-
dress). During production NEs are not assigned a default password. There-
fore, when you first communicate with a network element, you do not need to
give any password. However, if you want to provide an NE with a password,
you must perform the procedure described below from the management cen-
ter.

To change the password You can assign a password to the NE or change the existing NE password as
of an NE described in this procedure.

Step Action

1 Select Equipment NE Password in the pop-up menu of the NE icon.

The NE Password window appears along with an Information win-
dow. This window informs you about the use of the NE Password
window

2 Click OK in the Information window.

The Information window closes, and the NE Password window be-
comes active.

3 Enter the current password of the NE in the Old Password: field.

If the NE has just been installed, this field must be left blank, as no
default password is assigned to the NE during its production.

4 Enter the new password of the NE in the New Password: field.

The password must be a maximum of 16 characters in length.

5 Enter the new password again in the Confirm new Password: field.
It is important to carefully note down this password, as without it
you will not be able to establish communication with this NE.

6 Click OK.
The old password is replaced by the new password in the NE itself as
well as in the Tellabs 6300 managers database.

Functions of Element Management

4 Monitoring Alarms and Notifications

Overview The following topics are described:

4.1 Management Centers in a Network on page 43
4.2 Automatic Monitoring of NEs by a Management Center on page 43
4.3 Attributes in the Event Reporting Window on page 45

4.1 Management Centers in a Network

Monitoring alarms and The size of a network (how many NEs it contains) and the geographical loca-
notifications from several tion of the NEs will influence the number of management centers that a tele-
management centers in operator uses to monitor them. In some cases, a single management center can
a network be sufficient. In other cases, a number of local management centers are neces-
sary. Each local management center monitors alarms and notifications from
NEs in its own local area. Servers running the element access server modules
must be configured to receive alarms and notifications from the NEs it is re-
sponsible for managing (see To configure the EFDs of an NE on page 43). An
operator in a local management center (working on a concurrent user interface
(client PC)) must then tell each NE in its local area where to send its alarms
and notifications. Notifications are messages that an NE can send to a manage-
ment computer to indicate that it must refresh the information displayed in
any open windows.

4.2 Automatic Monitoring of NEs by a Management Center

Monitoring all NEs in a Monitoring is done by opening the TeMIP Client Real Time View window of
network the Tellabs 6300 manager. This window displays alarms from NEs that have
been configured to send their alarms to the management center. See
To configure the EFDs of an NE on page 43.

Management center For a management center to automatically monitor an NE, the NE must know
must tell an NE where to the NSAP address of the management center. This ensures that alarms gener-
send its alarms ated by the NE can be viewed in the Real Time View window of the manage-
ment center.

The event forwarding An NE is able to send alarms and notifications to a maximum of 4 different
discriminator (EFD) management centers. To enable an NE to send alarms and notifications to a
management center, an EFD (event forwarding discriminator) must be taken
into use. The EFD is automatically taken into use by the management center,
when it establishes the connection to the NE. The NSAP address of the man-
agement center is used by the EFD to report back the alarms and notifications
from the NE. You can change the configuration of the EFD used by your own
management center, and you can take EFDs for other management centers out
of use, when they are no longer needed.

To configure the EFDs of This procedure describes how you configure the EFDs of an NE. The proce-
an NE dure must be performed by a computer in the management center that wishes
to receive the NEs alarms and notifications.

6 Managing Backup and Handling NE Configuration

Overview Scheduled and immediate backups of the NEs registered in Tellabs 6300 man-
ager are performed by the Automatic Backup Module. The backed up config-
uration can be restored to the NE, if required.
6.1 Introduction to the Automatic Backup Module on page 71
6.2 Configuration of the Automatic Backup Module on page 75
6.3 Handling the NE Configuration on page 81

6.1 Introduction to the Automatic Backup Module

The Automatic Backup The Automatic Backup Module (ABM) is a TeMIP module that controls and
Module executes the automatic backup of the NEs registered in a particular Tellabs
6300 manager server. The NEs are placed in backup groups with specific set-
tings for the automatic backup.
Note: An NE can be a member of several backup groups. This can be used to
back up a particular NE at irregular intervals without the need to create
a specific backup group for that purpose.
The ABM can contain any number of backup groups. As a default, it contains
the two special backup groups "Default" and "NoBackup", which cannot be
deleted. See "Default" backup group on page 71 and "NoBackup" group on
page 71 for a description.

"Default" backup group The "Default" backup group contains all NEs that are registered in the man-
agement system and that are not members of any other backup group. When
a new NE is registered, it is added to the "Default" group the next time this
group is backed up.

"NoBackup" group The "NoBackup" backup group contains the NEs that do not need to be backed
up. Backup is always suspended for the "NoBackup" group and cannot be re-
sumed.

Adding and removing New NEs registered in the management system are automatically added as
NEs members of the "Default" backup group. You can then move the NE to the rel-
evant backup group or groups.
When NEs are removed from the management system, however, the corre-
sponding backup group members are not deleted automatically but must be
deleted manually. You can either delete individual backup group members
one by one or you can use the remove function to delete all backup group
members that refer to non-existent NEs.
Note: If you delete all backup group members corresponding to an NE which
is still registered in the management system, the NE is automatically
added to the "Default" backup group the next time the group is backed
up.

Backup group When you create a new backup group, you can specify a name for the group
configuration and a start time for the first backup. When the backup group has been created,
it is not possible to change the requested start time.

MA335 Rev. G1 71
Tellabs 6300 Network Manager 6 Managing Backup and Handling NE Configuration
Working in Tellabs 6300 Manager Vol. 5: Using the Core
Functions of Element Management

The only attributes available for configuration are the number of backup files
that are kept in the backup system and the frequency (in days and hours) of
the backups.
Note: When you delete a backup group, the group and all of its members are
deleted.

Backup member When you create a new backup group member, you specify the NE type and
configuration the name of the corresponding NE.
The only attribute available for configuration is the priority of the backup
member. The priority is used to define the sequence in which the members of
the backup group are backed up. The members with the highest priority are
backed up first.

The Backup The configuration of the backup groups and backup members is carried out in

same menu items as the Connector menu (see Connector menu on page 94).

8.1.4 Inside the Equipment View Area

Showing an NE with When the Equipment View window is opened initially, all racks and subracks
many racks are visible and no scrollbars are used. If the IDs of the actual and expected rack
or subrack are different, two racks or subracks will be shown, one with each
ID.
If the amount of equipment causes the objects inside the subracks to be too
small to be shown individually, the objects are hidden, and the subracks ap-
pear as single components. To see the details of the equipment, you can use
the zoom function or open separate rack and subrack views (see 8.3 Rack and
Subrack Views on page 100).

Showing actual and As illustrated in the figure, the graphical representation of modules allows
expected equipment you to easily distinguish between actual and expected equipment.

Modules that are actually present but not expected or expected but not actu-
ally present, are transparent. Modules that are both actually present and ex-
pected are not transparent.
Expected racks or subracks are distinguished by the extra information in their
title bar:
The title bar of an expected rack contains the rack label.
The title bar of an expected subrack contains the subrack usage (if any).

8.2 Operating in the Equipment View Window

Activating a selected When a specific object (NE, rack, subrack, slot, module, connector or protec-
object tion arrow) is selected in the equipment view area, you can manage the object
either via the relevant main menu, via the pop-up menu of the object, or by
double-clicking on the object or pressing Enter.
When you double-click or press Enter, the default action for the selected object
is activated. The default action is the first enabled action in the pop-up menu
of the object.

Using the tabulator key Using the tabulator key (Tab), you can select the objects in the equipment view
to select area in the following order:
Network element
First rack
First subrack in first rack
Connectors in subrack
Slots and/or modules in subrack
Protection arrows in subrack
Next subrack in first rack (and then its contents, as described above)
All following subracks in first rack and their contents
Next rack (and then its contents, as described above)
All following racks and their contents
By using Shift+Tab, you can navigate backwards in the object hierarchy.

Using the arrow keys to You can also navigate between the NE, racks, subracks, slots, modules, con-
select nectors and protection arrows using the arrow keys (alone or in combination
with Alt) and Page Up and Page Down.
The arrow keys are used to move the selection at a specific level (rack level,
subrack level or module level). For example, when you are at the subrack lev-
el, pressing an arrow key moves you from one subrack to the next. If you use
the arrow keys in combination with Alt, the movement is limited to the parent
of the current object type (that is, you will not be able to go across rack bound-
aries when navigating at the subrack level, or go across rack and subrack
boundaries when navigating at the module level).
Page Up and Page Down are used to move between levels. For example, when
a module is selected, pressing Page Up will select the subrack that contains the
module.

Scrolling in the When scroll bars are present in the equipment view area (because of zoom-
equipment view area ing), the visible area will scroll automatically during selection with the tabu-
lator key or with the arrow keys, to ensure that the selected object is visible.
You can also scroll the view by using the control key (Ctrl) and the arrow keys.

8.3 Rack and Subrack Views

Looking at a single rack Instead of looking at the whole NE with all of its racks, subracks and modules,
you can focus on a single rack and its contents. This is done in the rack view,
which is opened via the menu item Rack View in the pop-up menu for the rel-
