CAMPS-ON-CAMPUS
Morning Care And Aftercare
Offered at our Lincroft campus, before- and after-camp activities will keep your youngster
busy and involved in a safe, supervised environment. A staff member will escort your child
to and from camp locations at the appropriate times. Aftercare is available only for camps
ending at 2 pm or later. Preregistration is required. Daily rates are not available.

New Aftercare Options
Following 2 pm dismissal, several afternoon programs are available:

Traditional Aftercare provides a safe, comfortable classroom environment. Pick up by 6 pm is


required.
Brand-new Backyard Games camps are now offered by Sports Camps. These programs will
provide an assortment of outdoor games. See page 23 for details. Pick up at 6 pm is required.
Campers attending 9am2pm programs may register for the following Digital Arts afternoon
camps, in lieu of Aftercare, at a reduced price of $160.

Animals! Animals!
If your child likes art and loves animals, this experience is sure
to delight. Well draw, paint, sculpt, and get messy. Explore art
media including oil pastels, acrylic paint, clay, collage, chalk
pastels, and watercolor, all while learning to draw your favorite
animals. Our curriculum meets National Standards for Art
Education. Proudly present your work at a brief art show on
Friday.

The Art Of Photography Learn How To Capture Summer In A Flash!
Wonder what it takes to envision an idea and then execute it as a piece of art? Photography is part art,
part science, and part psychology. Learn about digital photography, including terminology, mechanics,
and process, and how to choose subjects, lighting, and editing. Students will begin to develop a
personal photographic style, to explore the creative meaning of images and to tell a story through

3D Art = hands-on summer excitement! Create unique papiermch sculptures, plaster face masks,

Create your own fabulous fashions by drawing, painting, and personalizing your own runway-worthy

Drawing New Conclusions


Improve your drawing skills. Learn principles including perspective, proportion and composition to
improve your drawing ability. We will incorporate cartooning into our activities developing a cartoon
from storyboard to finished comic strip. This is a hands-on skill building class (not a computer

storytelling.

The Money Camp
Future tycoons and financial wizards welcome! Learn from professional financial managers about how
money is earned, managed, invested and saved. Personal budgets, the stock market, business plans and
the ins and outs of borrowing money are all part of this rich week of summer. As a culminating activity,
a behind-the-scenes visit to a local business operation will bring this lucrative week to an end.

Chess for Success
Dont be a pawn! Learn how to outsmart both friend and foe. Chess develops skills in critical thinking,
problem solving, analysis, and visualization all while fostering confidence and sportsmanship.

Club advisor and members of the High Technology Chess High School Team welcome novice and

All Black Rocket Productions camps mirror real life experiences and the
collaborative nature of the creative process. Work in pairs or teams for most of
the design process, and end camp with a finished product to take home and
show family and friends.
App Adventures! The Next Level
Continue your quest to make the next viral app! Whether you want to move past the basic techniques
learned in App Attack or want to jump right in, we are ready for you! Choose from a selection of
different web-based (HTML5) mobile apps and explore more in-depth programming concepts. Student
projects will be accessible on a Black Rocket site and can be played on any mobile device or computer.
Publishing to App Stores not included. No prior experience is necessary and students do not need to
own a smartphone or tablet to take the class. Work in pairs or teams for most of the program.

App Attack!
Take the first steps into the world of mobile app design and customize your own game app! Using a
specialized app & game development tool, students will explore the world of web-based (HTML5)
mobile apps. In addition to learning the basics of mobile app design and game development, you will
also see firsthand how the world of App publishing functions. Student-created apps will be accessible
on a private site and can be played on any mobile device or computer. Publishing to App Stores not

Calling all future coders, programmers, & designers! Learn the basics of coding languages like HTML,

to becoming the next tech star! Whether you want to be the next Mark Zuckerberg or the high school
student who just made $1 million dollars for programming in his bedroom, this camp has the essentials

In The Ultimate Video Game Experience
For serious gamers only! Beyond 2D and 3D, now its time to advance to another level by competing
with the world! Develop games with a partner using a unique game engine. Learn advanced-level
editing, simple 3D modeling, intermediate event scripting, and the impact of game play on user
experience. Work in pairs or teams for most of the program.

LEGO Video Games


Combine your two favorite activities: LEGOs and Video Games! Create your own LEGO characters and
adventures in an interactive 2D Video Game. Everyone is welcome in this one of a kind class. At the
end of the program, everyone will have a finished LEGO Video Game that can be shared with friends
and family through a password protected Black Rocket website. Games are only compatible on PC
computers; Mac versions can be created after the program for a $15 conversion fee. Work in pairs or

In this LEGO adventure YOU are the star! Pick your favorite LEGO genre or create an alternate
universe to create a digital illustrated story or graphic novel. Whether you want to fight alongside
Superheroes, create a Minecraft story, hang with the Nexo Knights, or go into space with Rey and Finn,
the only requirement is that you put yourself in the story! End the camp with a
digital comic book that can be shared with friends and family on a password-

Make Your First Video Game!


If you love playing video games, this is the camp for you! Make your first video game in this one-of-
a-kind class that shows you the keys to designing your first 2D platformer game. Conceptualization,

well explore. Games will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with
friends and family. Games are only compatible on PC computers, Mac versions can be created after the

Make Your First 3-D Video Game!


Try this new version of a Black Rocket classic! This camp allows you to develop a game concept that
goes well beyond the limitations of the traditional 2D game design classes and create an immersive 3D
world. Learn the physics behind 3D games, explore beginner event scripting, level design, controlling
flow of gameplay, and story telling. Games will be available on a password protected Black Rocket
website to share with friends and family. Work in pairs or teams for most of the program.

Maker Labs: Make Your First 3D Creation!
Calling all boys and girls who want to be the designers of the future! If you can dream it, you can make
it - create your first action figure, design custom jewelry, or make a new toy, learn how to prepare a
model for 3D printing, and create a design portfolio to showcase your work! Using professional-level
modeling software, kids will sculpt, texture, and render their own 3D creation. No prior experience is
necessary and 3D designs will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with
friends and family. (3D prints may be purchased separately through an online provider.) Work in pairs
or teams for most of the program.

Minecraft Animators
Bring your favorite Minecraft characters to life in an animated short film! Learn how studios like
Pixar and Disney make movies like Inside Out and Frozen using techniques like keyframing, tweening,
texturing, and animating rigged 3D models! Projects will be available on a Black Rocket website to
share with friends and family. You do not need to own a Minecraft account to use the software in this
class. Work in pairs or teams for most of the program.

Minecraft Designers
If you love the game Minecraft, and always wanted to design your own world, this camp is for you!
Learn how to create a custom map, the basics of creating 3D models using a new software to design
your very own objects, how to build with Redstone and Command blocks, and create custom textures
for you to import at home or share with friends. To access projects at home, you must own a PC/MAC
version of Minecraft. Tablet, phone, and game console versions of Minecraft are not compatible. Parent
email address is required to use 3D modeling software. Work in pairs or teams for most of the program.

Minecraft Modders
Use your favorite game to learn the basics of modding and foundations of programming. Learn
scripting and logic statements as you create your first mods! Introductory coding will also be taught
through a simulated environment inspired by Minecraft. Student projects will be available on a
password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. To access their project at
home, campers must own a PC/MAC version of Minecraft. Tablet, phone, and game console versions
of Minecraft are not compatible. Work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Returning campers
can create more advanced projects that build on previous years.

NEW! Star Wars Stop Animation
Make your own Star Wars adventure come to life! Bring in your favorite Star Wars action figures and
create a short film. Whether you want to recreate a scene from Star Wars or design a new world of your
own, this class brings your dreams to the screen. You will need to bring in Star Wars action figures
or vehicles from home, but all other equipment is provided. Films will be available on a password-
protected website to share with friends and family. Work in pairs or teams for most of the program.

Video Game Animation


Take your game design skills to the next level by creating and animating your own character sprites,
objects, and backgrounds. Start with a name, develop the characters personality, signature moves,
special powers, and a story line. Finish with a fully animated character to be used in your very own
game. You do not need any prior experience in game design, animation, or sketching. Games will be
available on a password-protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Games are
only compatible on PC computers; Mac versions can be created after the program for $15.00 conversion
fee. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program.

Embark on an EPIC adventure in virtual reality! In this cutting-
edge camp, learn the foundations of VR design by creating your
own virtual worlds, exploring simulated environments, and
crafting memorable 3D experiences. At the end of the week,
take home your first cardboard VR headset to show friends and
family the new worlds you created. VR projects can be viewed
on a website or a mobile device. You do not need a mobile device
to take the class, but to use the VR headset at home, you will
need access to an Android or Apple mobile device.

Work in pairs or teams and VR Games will be available on a password-protected Black Rocket website
to share with friends and family.

X-Games: The Ultimate Video Game Experience


Experience the ultimate in video game design. Youve learned the basics, now its time to take it to
another level - an UNREAL level! Work on powerful computers with the industry-grade software the
pros use! This camp is not meant for amateurs, but will give any aspiring game designer an idea of
how to break into the video game industry. Start with the basics of level editing, 3D modeling, event
scripting and story writing. Although the program ends on Friday, your experience is just beginning!
You are provided with the software to continue your project at home, will have access to online Black
Rocket tutorials, receive an additional 7 hours of online instruction from one of our game designers,
and participate in a unique online community of gamers. Software, online tutorial and website hosting
are all included. System requirements for home experience include: PC computer with 2 GB of RAM,
2.0 GHZ processor and a ShaderModel3-compatible video card.

An action-packed STEM drone education program. Teams transition from the simulator to the remote
control and enjoy a multitude of thrilling challenges on and off the ground! Get ready for a week of
friendly competition as you and your team take to the sky and attempt to win the badge of the Ultimate
Drone Games champion. Participants will experience the thrill of todays latest drone technology
including drones equipped with mini Nerf cannons and mini grabbers. Its all about the grand finale
as teams conquer challenges and earn points for the end-of-program event: Ultimate Drobot Games.
Drone safety and the social responsibilities of flying drones are included in this camp.

New! Drone Flying: Search & Rescue


Drone search and rescue is a necessity for first responders around the world, adding a new layer of
solutions to save lives across the globe. Now you too can take part in and learn from simulated missions
during this action-packed and creative program. Learn how to fly and code drones while relying on
their rescue team to utilize unique vantage points over specific areas on campus to locate victims and
safely rescue them to safety. Teams will also learn invaluable lessons on how to quickly and accurately
acquire aerial data that, in return, will enable them to make informed and targeted decisions for real-
world positive applications. Drone safety and the social responsibilities of flying drones are included in
this program.

HISTORY & MYSTERY
New! JFK Assassination Investigation and Mock Trial
Conduct a week-long investigation into the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Did Lee Harvey
Oswald act alone or was he part of a conspiracy? Study audiovisual evidence, eye witness statements,
and medical reports to see if we can find the answer. The camp will end with a debate and mock trial of

Magnetic Levitation And Solar Technology


Mag-lev vehicles are intended to provide the high-speed transportation of people and goods to move
rapidly and efficiently along a magnetic guide-way. The aerodynamic efficiency of the vehicle shape
is very important to the success of transportation. An aerodynamically efficient body shape reduces
friction between the air and the vehicle. In this program, campers will design, build, test and race a
vehicle across a track. Learn electronic concepts covering direct current obtained through solar cell

We deliver a comprehensive schedule of specialized instruction for boys
and girls ages 6-18. Our approach combines individual athletic training
and cooperative teamwork with competitive play always emphasizing
true sportsmanship and safety.
We are proud to have experienced instructors from collegiate coaches
who have won National Championships to certified martial artists who
have competed in the Olympic Games on staff to coach your camper.
Local collegiate athletes also assist our senior counselors. Our state-of-

Fast Start Program - Summer 2017
Attend college this summer! Enroll in college-level courses at Brookdale Community College through
the Fast Start Program. Summer III Term courses start on July 5, 2017.

What is the Fast Start Program?


The Fast Start Program allows qualified high school sophomores, juniors, seniors and home schooled
students to enroll in college-level courses at Brookdale. Students may enroll in one or two courses
during Brookdales Summer III Term (July 5 August 15)

How do students qualify for the Fast Start Program?


To qualify for the Fast Start Program, students must have completed the 9th grade, be at least 15
years old, and pass all sections of Accuplacer. Please review a detailed list of requirements at www.

How do students get started in the Fast Start Program?

Camps-On-Campus Policies
Programs are intended to be educational and fun. To ensure campers have a positive experience we have
instituted the following policies.
Sign-In/Sign-Out Procedure
You must escort and sign your child in at his/her destination. At the end of the program, your child must be picked up and
signed out. Campers are only permitted to leave camp with a parent or individual identified by parents in a written request.

Minor students, ages 13 and up, can sign-in and sign-out unattended. Your child may leave the program-
premises by his/her own means, with arrangements made by you to meet at a designated location imme-
diately following dismissal. All visitors to Brookdale Community College must abide by all laws, policies
and regulations in effect during the time of enrollment in classes and camp programs.
If you DO NOT want your teenager, age 13 and up, to arrive and leave the program premises unattended,

Camper Code of Conduct Agreement


Camper safety is our priority. Cursing, bullying, name-calling or behavior deemed unsafe by camp staff compromises
the experience for everyone and will not be tolerated. Parents or guardians will be notified if campers exhibit these
negative behaviors. If immediate improvement in behavior is not evident, the camper will be dismissed from camp
without refund. Dangerous behavior, such as fighting, is grounds for immediate dismissal. Cell phones/other elec-
tronic devices must be turned off prior to camp start time.

Refund Policy
If a parent must cancel his/her childs camp registration(s), our refund policy is as follows: 10 or more days prior
to camp, payment will be fully refunded less the $75 non-transferable deposit; 9 days or less prior to camp, we
will hold of the fee and refund the balance; no refunds will be issued once a camp program begins. Appeals
require documentation of an emergency. The College reserves the right to cancel a camp in which the registration
is less than the minimum required. If Brookdale Community College cancels a camp, full refunds will be auto-
matically granted. Refunds will be issued in the form of a check; please allow 2-4 weeks for processing. There is
a $20 handling fee for switching sessions after the original registration.

My child is permitted to participate/appear in group camp photos that may be used in future camp brochures.

Medical Care
I hereby certify that my child is in good physical health, has had a recent physical and may participate in all camp activities. I
will not hold the College or camp personnel responsible in the event of an accident or injury resulting from my childs partic-
ipation. If neither parent is available, I hereby authorize the Brookdale Camp and College staff to take emergency measures
deemed necessary I give permission for my child to be provided emergency treatment at a local hospital.
