DRY DANDRUFF

Dry Dandruff is the shedding of dead skin cells from the scalp. As skin cells die, a
small amount of flaking is normal; about 487,000 cells/cm 2 are released normally after
detergent treatment.

GREASY or WAXY DANDRUFF


Greasy dandruff or seborrhoeic dermatitis occurs when oily and yellow flakes or
scales form on your scalp and stick to your head and hair. Dry dandruff occurs when
dry, white and loose flakes or scales form on your scalp and fall from your head and
hair.

ALOPECIA
Alopecia areata, also known as spot baldness, is a condition in which hair is lost from
some or all areas of the body. Often it results in a few bald spots on the scalp, each
about the size of a coin.

TINEA CAPITIS
Tinea capitis is a disease caused by superficial fungal infection of the skin of the
scalp, eyebrows, and eyelashes, with a propensity for attacking hair shafts and
follicles (see the image below).

TINEA FAVOSA
Favus of the scalp or tinea capitis favosa is a chronic dermatophyte infection of the
scalp. In almost cases, favus is caused by Trichophyton schoenleinii, anthropophilic
dermatophyte.

SCABIES
Scabies is a skin infestation caused by a mite known as the Sarcoptes scabiei.
Untreated, these microscopic mites can live on your skin for months. They reproduce
on the surface of your skin and then burrow into it and lay eggs.

PEDICULOSIS
Pediculosis is an infestation of lice (blood-feeding
ectoparasitic insects of the order Phthiraptera). The condition can occur in
almost any species of warm-blooded animal (i.e. mammals and birds),
including humans. Although pediculosis in humans may properly refer to lice
infestation of any part of the body, the term is sometimes used loosely to refer
to pediculosis capitis, the infestation of the human head with the specific
head louse.
FURUNCLE
A boil, also called a furuncle, is a deep folliculitis, infection of the hair follicle. It is
most commonly caused by infection by the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus,
resulting in a painful swollen area on the skin caused by an accumulation of pus
and dead tissue.

CARBUNCLE
A carbuncle is an infection of the skin that may be filled with pus. The infection
usually occurs deep within your skin and involves the hair follicles. Its also
called a staph skin infection. Carbunculosis is the name given to more than one
carbuncle. This condition can cause permanent skin scarring. It can easily infect
other parts of your body and other people.

CONGENITAL CANITIES
Congenital Canities - This condition exists before or at birth. It occurs in albinos
who are born without pigment in the skin, hair and eyes. It can also occur in
individuals with normal hair. A patchy type of congenital canities may develop
either slowly or rapidly, depending on the cause of the condition.

ACQUIRED CANITIES
Acquired Canities - This condition develops with age and is the result of
genetics. Although genetics is also responsible for premature canities, acquired
canitities may develop due to worry, anxiety, or prolonged illness.

HYPERTRICHOSIS
Hypertrichosis-This hair condition is also known as hirsuties or a condition of
abnormal growth of hair. It's characterized by the growth of terminal hair in
areas of the body that normally grows only vellus hair. Women with
hypertrichosis might grow a noticeable mustache or light beard.

TRICHOPTILOSIS
Trichoptilosis-Split ends are technically known as trichoptilosis. There is no
known cure for split ends other than cutting the split or damaged ends off of
the hair. Although there are some products which can temporarily bind the
split ends together, the splits can not be permanently healed and may
actually worsen over time.
MONILETHRIX
Monilethrix Beaded hair is officially known as monilethrix. The hair breaks
easily between the beads or nodes. Treatments include hair and scalp
conditioning.

TRICHORRHEXIS NODOSA
Trichorrhexis Nodosa -Knotted hair is technically known as
Trichorrhexis Nodosa. It's characterized as brittleness and the formation of
nodular swellings along the hair shaft. The hair tends to breaks easily, and
the broken fibers spread out like a brush along the hair shaft. Treatments
include softening the hair with conditioners and moisturizers.

FRAGILITAS CRINIUM
Fragilitas Crinium-Brittle hair is defined as Fragilitas Crinium. When this
condition occurs hair may split at any part of their length. Treatments generally
involve hair and scalp conditioning.
