Professional Statement Before Practicum

First of all, I would like to thank the Language department and the Practicum Unit
for giving me this golden opportunity to be place as a trainee teacher in Sekolah
Kebangsaan Seri Penanti for my third phase of practicum. I have learnt that I will be
teacher my major and second minor subjects in the school later which are English
language and Health education. As we are aware, the purpose of practicum is to
provide a picture of real world of teaching by giving them a clear understanding of the
contexts of schooling.

In my first and second phase of practicums, I have gained a lot of knowledge and
experiences that are sure to give benefits for me as a future teacher. This is the time
where I can apply all the knowledge I got from my practicum before. The duration of this
third practicum is from 6th February 2017 to 5th May 2017.

Although this is my third practicum, I am scared and afraid of making mistakes.

Therefore, I will use the knowledge and the advises I got from my previous supervisors
and my previous facilitating teacher. To be honest, I am not quite prepared mentally and
physically.

The practicum unit organized a brief talk about the practical session that we will
attend for two months. In that talk, I have come to learn a lot of information about the
record book, portfolio, observations and also the new changes the practicum unit had
made in the filing system. There will be seven observations by our supervisors and
teachers from the school for both our major and minor subjects. The last observations
(bersama) will be done by both my supervisor and the facilitating teachers. These
observations are to help the trainee teachers to improve their weaknesses and to be a
better teacher in future.

As I mentioned before, the school has a name which is similar to a rural area
school. Therefore, I hope that each class there will be around 10 to 15 pupils only
because this will help me to manage the classroom well. Furthermore, it will be easy for
me to prepare activities for them too. If the class has more than 20 pupils, it will be a
tough time to handle the children which happened most of the time in my previous
school.

Apart from that, I have set a few goals for my second phase practicum. First of
all, I want to carry out my lesson effectively, so that, my pupils would be able to learn
something useful each day from my lesson. In order to achieve my learning objectives I
would design creative activities that would engage my pupils and involve themselves. I
strongly believe in the phrase which goes like this, Learning Is Fun. Therefore, I will try
my best to make my lessons more fun and have creative activities such as games. I
have also searched and found some interesting ESL activities from the internet which I
can use in my classroom.

Last but not the least, I hope I can follow and keep up with all the latest
development with my practicum school. I hope that this school will give me a whole new
experience throughout the practicum.
