KINDS OF PONDS

A Fish Farming involves raising fish commercially in tanks or enclosures, usually for food. It
is the principal form of aquaculture, while other methods may fall under Mari culture. A facility
that releases juvenile fish into the wild for recreational fishing or to supplement a species' natural
numbers is generally referred to as a fish hatchery.

Fish Pond is an artificial body of water surrounded by dikes and with accessories such as
gates, pipes and canals to facilitates water supply management.

1. Nursery pond (NP)

For the rearing of fish fry fingerlings. The most suitable place is an area that can be easily
supplied with fresh, unpolluted water all the time and at an elevation where it can be readily
drained even during ordinary low tide. The size of NP depends primarily in the fingerling
requirements of the rearing ponds based on the maximum yearly targeted production.

2. Rearing pond (RP)

For raising fingerlings up to marketable size. It is the largest compartment
in the pond system.
3. Catching pond (CP)
For confining and catching fry, fingerlings and fish of marketable size. The gate area is
constructed inside the pond water where it is intended to be used.
