Last Weeks Focus
Reading
Character voices and words were the overarching focus of
this weeks reading workshop. As we continue to read,
reread and memories the exact words characters use
within our storybooks, we are working the say the words
just like the characters! Using paper puppets and a
puppet theatre have made this practice even more
meaningful and fun!
Writing
We transitioned from teaching book writing to
storybook writing. These books include real events that
have the students remember very well. We are working to
add more details and words to make the stories come to
life! It is so fun to see the students memories of
waterparks, piano recitals, Wisconsin, birthday parties and
visits to grandmas house come to life on the pages of our
booklets and scrolls!
Math
We have moved from numbers 1-5 to numbers 6-10. We
count these amounts as 5 and ___ more. This allows the
students to create patterns that are found within all
aspects of mathematics.
Science and Social Studies
We wrapped up our farm/harvest thematic unit by
comparing farms then and now. How fun it was to see
the changes in machinery and structure that have
happened over the years!
Character Development
We began our Second Step character development
program this week! We met Puppy the Puppet, and
learned the ways we can control our bodies during
learning/listening time to help our brains grow smarter.
