GEOG 1700 - REFLECTION

As I reflect back on the motives that made me take this class, I am happy with the

results. I wanted to learn more about Natural Disasters, and I did. It was interesting to

learn about the most common disasters like, earthquake, tsunamis, volcanoes, hurricanes,

as well as the not so common Natural Disasters, like wildfires, climate disasters and

climate changes.

The reality of Natural Disasters did impact my life positively. To gain knowledge

of precautions that can be done to protect the environment and to prevent some types of

Natural Disasters is priceless. If one person at time would have interest to learn about

causes and preventions, it would help to decrease the severity of loss and suffering

incurred when Natural Disasters strike.

This last project was a proof of the benefit that having knowledge about Natural

Disasters can change a life. In one of my resources, The National Geographic, there was a

story of an Indian Man who saved most of his village of 1500 people, because he recalled

watching a documentary about tsunamis and remembered that when the ocean receded it

was a sign of danger. He sounded the alarm and led the people to higher ground, saving

almost the entire village. There is power in knowledge.

This class was fun to take, even online. Im sure it is much more fun and

interesting to have in a regular classroom setting. I thank Mr. Nielsen for his patience in

responding to all the questions I had throughout this course. He was an approachable

teacher, and that alone, made a big difference on the outcome of this course.
