Resilient Community Site Design,

Baltimore City.
Monday, April 4, 2016 | 1:45 p.m. - 2:45 p.m.
Poster Area, Planning Expo, Hall C (PCC)
#9003156

The poster presents a study conducted for a Resilient Community located in the Northeast of
Baltimore City. Using the Baltimore City-view data, it was found that most of the houses in this
community are vacant and people do not prefer living in that community. To identify existing
problems and curb the reasons behind the high vacancy rate and negative perception of the
community, researchers visited the site and assessed present conditions. The objective of the
project was to investigate designs that address the existing problems and attract more people to
the community. To achieve the objective, a four-step process was taken: (1) Research and
analysis of the demographic trend of the site, (2) Site inventory, (3) Literature review and (4)
Concept plan with strategies to minimize the existing site problems. Thus, the poster presents
the glimpse of works done for planning a resilient community site.

You'll learn about:

Heat-island effect, storm-water management, livable community design, and building

orientation.
