IV. Procedure
A. Motivation
CLS/Round Table. Students list their questions regarding anything that
concerns biology or life. Students write their questions on a metacard
which they post on the board. Encourage students to continue to seek
for questions and answers. AskWhat is the consequence of the fact
that biology is a broad science? Elicit the concept that Biology is a
broad science and that it is subdivided into many branches.
B. Presentation
CLS/Think Pair Share; TAC (Picture Reveal). A student clicks on the
computer which slowly reveals the picture. The goal of the students is

The students then identify the branch of biology that specifically deals
with the subject (see table above).
Students list ways on how they can apply their knowledge in biology in
their everyday lives.
C. Processing
Q: What unites all these branches of biology?
Q: How does biology become technology?
HOTS: If you are to work on a certain area in biology, what would you
choose? Why?
HOTS: How do you apply your knowledge in biology in your everyday
life?
HOTS: What are the biological issues that concern the society today?
Q: How is biology applied in the areas of medicine? Agriculture?
Genetic engineering?
Value of Knowledge Appreciation: What is the best thing about
learning biology? What is the role of biology in the society?
D. Synthesis
CAC/Reflection. Students write a short reflection by completing the
statement I am a young biologist because I . . . !
