EPISODE 1.01
"PILOT"

SPEC SCRIPT
1.01 INT. RESTAURANT - NIGHT 1.01

A fancy establishment. The restaurant is full of dressed up

people. At a table in the center of the room are ALEX DANVERS
(29), and her wife MAGGIE SAWYER (30). Theyre both eating.

ALEX
This. Is amazing. You need to try
this.

Alex raises her fork, and feeds Maggie a bite. She smiles.

MAGGIE
That is good... You know, Im glad
we finally got to do this.

Alex nods, but is looking around past Maggies head into the
room. Maggie catches her, and chuckles.

MAGGIE (CONTD)
Youre not nervous, are you?

Alex finally lands her eyes back on Maggie, and laughs

quickly.

ALEX
No. No, of course not. Its you and
me, were fine.

Maggie smirks.

MAGGIE
I cant believe I married you, you
nerd.

ALEX
I cant believe you said yes.

They both laugh, but then Alex spots something - a WAITER

(40s, male) has just come out of the kitchen with plates. In
his pocket, Alex sees something GLOWING.

She gets up. Maggie frowns.

MAGGIE
Alex...?

Alex ignores her, and follows the waiter as hes walking back
to the kitchen.

As soon as hes past the door and out of sight to the

restaurant patrons, Alex reaches into her pocket, and takes
out a TASER.
 2.

She jams it into his neck, and covers his mouth as he

SCREAMS.

He elbows her in the abdomen, she grunts and lets go of him,

but can quickly shove him against the wall, and apply the
taser to his neck one more time.

The door opens, and Alex looks up quickly. Its Maggie,

looking irritated.

MAGGIE (CONTD)
You could have waited for me.

ALEX
Grab his feet.

Alex and Maggie pick the man up, and drop him in a nearby
SUPPLY CLOSET.

ALEX (CONTD)
He had the orb. There was no time.

She crouches down and reaches into his pocket, to pull out a
spherical, glowing ORB.

MAGGIE
Careful.

Alex holds up the orb, and taps her earpiece.

ALEX
Winn? We have it. Were on our way
back.

Maggie leans against the door frame.

MAGGIE
How I love our date nights.

Alex laughs.

1.02 INT. ALEX & MAGGIES APARTMENT - NIGHT 1.02

Alex unlocks the door, and they both walk inside. Alex flops
down onto the couch, Maggie walks to the gun safe in the
corner and opens it.

MAGGIE
So, when are you going to take me
out for a proper date night then,
agent Danvers?

Alex smiles and looks up at her.

ALEX
Was it not good for you?

MAGGIE
Oh, no, I love a good alien ass-
kicking as much as the next gal...
But it doesnt really make for a
very romantic setting.

Alex pretends to think.

ALEX
Well, then, I guess well have
to... find another romantic
setting.

Maggie walks towards her.

MAGGIE
Mmhm? Like what?

ALEX
Like... Our bed?

Maggie smiles and reaches the couch, as Alex reaches for her
and pulls her on top of her. They kiss passionately.

ALEX (CONTD)
... Or the couch. That works.

Maggie laughs, as they go back to making out.

CUT TO:

1.03 INT. DEO - COMMAND CENTER - DAY 1.03

The next morning. Alex, now in DEO gear, walks down the
stairs and into the command center. At the monitors stands
JONN JONNZ (late 40s). He looks up and nods at her.

JONN
Good job with the orb yesterday.
That guy could have taken out half
of National City if hed activated
it.

ALEX
All in a days work. Have you
interrogated him yet?

JONN
He denies any links to the
terrorist network.

ALEX
Of course he does.

A WHOOSH behind them. Alex and Jonn look up to see KARA

SUPERGIRL DANVERS (mid 20s) land on the balcony.

Alex smiles at her sister. Kara is holding a cup holder with

four cups of coffee, and hands one over to Alex, and one to
Jonn.

JONN
Good morning, Kara.

KARA
Morning, Jonn!

She turns to Alex, with a raised eyebrow.

KARA (CONTD)
Hey sis! How was date night?

ALEX
We stopped the city from exploding.
So, you know... Regular Thursday
night date material.

Kara smirks.

KARA
What about afterwards? I thought
you were buying me a drink, but I
guess you had other plans...?

ALEX
It was... an interesting evening.

Jonn winces. Alex picks it up, and points at him.

ALEX (CONTD)
Hey! We agreed - no mind reading!

Tech analyst WINN SCHOTT (late 20s) speaks up from his desk.

WINN
Kara, industrial fire downtown!
Theres an alien at the scene!

Kara, Alex and Jonn turn to him, as Kara puts down the cup
holder.

KARA
Ill go ahead and evacuate
civilians.

Kara speeds off, Jonn turns to Alex.

JONN
Get a strike team ready.

Alex nods, and runs off.

CUT TO:

1.04 EXT. FACTORY - DAY 1.04

Kara is flying through the air, and speeds towards the scene.
She stops to hover above the factory, as she takes in the
sight.

Big, bright blue flames are shooting out of the windows. A

large plume of black smoke fills the air.

Kara narrows her eyes, using her X-RAY VISION to see many
people trapped inside.

She shoots forward, and heads into the building.

1.05 I/E. SUV / STREET - DAY 1.05

Alex is sitting in the passenger seat of a DEO issued SUV, in

full tactical gear. There are other DEO AGENTS in the back.
The atmosphere is tense. Shes going over blueprints on a
tablet computer.

Alex looks up as the big plume of smoke appears in the

windshield, and the car stops in front of an NCPD BARRICADE.

She hops out of the car, and walks towards a group of NCPD
officers, where she recognizes MAGGIE standing in the center.
She can just pick up the tail of the conversation.

MAGGIE
... But under no circumstance
engage with the target until we can
get confirmation.

The NCPD officers walk off, leaving Alex frowning at Maggies

state.

ALEX
Youre not wearing Kevlar.

MAGGIE
I was patrolling. Dont worry, Ill
put one on. You know the guy?

Alex looks up, and sees a dark blue, large ALIEN standing on
top of the burning building, staring down at them.

ALEX
Cant say I do...

She taps her earpiece.

ALEX (CONTD)
... Winn, are you getting this?

WINN (O.S.)
Running it through the database,
but it doesnt ring any bells.

MAGGIE
Fire department says the north side
of the building is still intact.

Alex turns back to her team.

ALEX
Alright, lets move in! Masks on,
Alpha takes the chopper, Bravo head
for the north staircase, await
orders.

The DEO agents get into position. Alex taps her earpiece once
again.

ALEX (CONTD)
Supergirl, how are you doing?

KARA (O.S.)
Evacuating the last of the
civilians now.

Alex takes a hold of her assault rifle, and looks at Maggie

one last time.

ALEX
Stay here, okay? And put a vest on!

She moves forward to KISS Maggie quickly, before running into

the direction of the building, and putting on her mask.

Maggie watches her go.

1.06 EXT. FACTORY - ROOF - DAY 1.06

ALEX and her team, in tactical gear and with masks on, jump
out of the chopper and rappel down with ropes. Alex lands on
the roof and raises her rifle, lowering her mask.

ALEX
Hands where I can see them!

The alien turns its head to face her, and growls at her. The
rest of the agents raise their guns and stand alongside her,
as the alien gets up.

ALEX (CONTD)
Bravo team! Breach!

The door to the rooftop flies open, and the alien is

distracted by a hail of bullets in its direction, but it
turns to Alex and her team quickly, raising its hand.

ALEX (CONTD)
MOVE!

She and the agents roll out of the way, as the alien shoots
fire in their direction.

Alex rolls onto one knee, and fires at the alien. But the
bullets bounce off.

ALEX (CONTD)
Supergirl! We could use some help!

1.07 EXT. FACTORY - DAY 1.07

Maggie, down at the perimeter, watches the roof. GUNFIRE and

SCREAMING is audible.

MAGGIE
Come on, Alex...

She looks down at her windbreaker, and sighs as she runs

forward.

1.08 EXT. FACTORY - ROOF - DAY 1.08

Nothing is working against the alien. Alex sees multiple

agents lying on the floor. Some are still on fire.

There are barely a handful of upright agents left.

WINN (O.S.)
Alex! I got it!

Alex dodges another fireball.

ALEX
Talk to me, Winn!

WINN (O.S.)
Fight fire with ice! Blast him with
your cryo setting!

Alex nods, and reaches for the ALIEN GUN in her holster,
aiming for its head.

But the alien moves in on her. She sees it coming, and dodges
out of the way, but he grabs her ankle and pulls her back.

The alien gun flies out of her hands, and skids to the other
side of the roof. Alex kicks at the alien with her other
foot.

ALEX
Damn it!... Where the hell is
Supergirl?!

The alien moves closer. Alex stops resisting, and realizes

that this might be the end.

But then, the alien WAILS, and topples to the ground. Alex
pulls back her leg before it can land on her.

She pants, and looks up to see MAGGIE standing at the rooftop

access door, lowering the alien gun, and moving to help Alex
up.

MAGGIE
You okay?

ALEX
Where is Kara?

Maggie doesnt have a response.

1.09 INT. DEO - COMMAND CENTER - DAY 1.09

Maggie is leaning over the center table. Winn sits at his

desk, Jonn is facing her.

MAGGIE
We searched the entire building.
Thermal vision, x-ray, even dogs.
She wasnt in there.

WINN
Her tracker is offline, so we have
no ways of tracing her.

JONN
What about witnesses?

MAGGIE
The last rescued civilians said
that she headed back into the
building. Fire department confirms,
they never saw her fly out.

ALEX (O.C.)
So shes still inside.

Everybody looks up to where Alex is walking towards them, in

her black tank top and pants, patched up and holding a towel
to her drying hair. Maggie wraps an arm around her as she
joins them.

JONN
Someone could have taken her.

MAGGIE
Theres a back entrance to the
building that wasnt watched. It
leads to an alley.

JONN
That means a quick getaway...

He sighs.

JONN (CONTD)
Okay, keep trying her phone and
tracker.

WINN
Ill call James too, see if shes
at CatCo.

ALEX
What about me?

JONN
You stay here and take it slow for
now. That alien took you for a
ride. Well keep you posted.

Alex opens her mouth to argue, but Jonn is already walking

away. Maggie turns to Winn.

MAGGIE
If we can get CCTV from anywhere
near the site... Maybe the cameras
picked something up.

Winn nods. Maggie looks up, and sees Alex standing near the
center table, looking forlorn. She puts a hand on Alexs
cheek.

MAGGIE (CONTD)
Hey... Dont worry, were going to
find her, Alex.

ALEX
Im going to go... Lay down...

Alex walks away. Maggie and Winn share an uneasy look.

Alex turns a corner, and looks behind her to check if anybody

notices her. She takes a deep breath, and walks into the
opposite direction.

1.10 INT. FACTORY - DAY 1.10

The interior is completely charred. There is still smoke

rising up from debris on the ground.

A flashlight beam shines over the rubble. Its ALEX. Shes

holding a pistol in one hand, a flashlight in the other.

She stops at a wall, where a blue gooey residue is dripping

down. She examines it closely, and snaps a picture of it with
her phone.

Before she can tuck it away, there is a loud BANG in the

distance. Alex spins around and raises her gun, breathing
heavily.

She takes a few steps, before freezing. She hears clear

FOOTSTEPS on the stairs to her right.

She moves to the staircase, and presses herself up against

the wall next to the doorway.

The footsteps grow louder, and louder, until a figure appears

in the doorway, and Alex tackles it to the ground, raising
the gun to their head.

The figure turns around, and Alex sees that its Maggie. Her
eyes widen and she lowers the gun immediately.

ALEX
I could have shot you! Why are you
here?!

Maggie winces as she gets up, Alex reaching an arm out for
support.
 11.

MAGGIE
I could ask you the same question!
You walk out of the DEO without
telling anyone, I thought theyd
gotten you too!

Alex looks down. Maggie gets worked up, tears appear in her
eyes.

MAGGIE (CONTD)
You cant just run away like that!
Dont do that to me! I didnt-...

She stops herself.

ALEX
I... Im sorry, Mags.

Maggie takes a deep breath, and wipes at her tears angrily.

MAGGIE
What are you here for? We searched
the place, shes not here.

Alex ignores her, and walks back over to the wall with the
blue substance.

ALEX
This residue...

Maggie follows her, sees the substance, and reaches for it.

ALEX (CONTD)
Dont touch it. It could be toxic.

MAGGIE
You think it had something to do
with Kara?

ALEX
We need to analyze this. That
alien... If he started this fire to
lure her into a trap...

She doesnt finish her sentence, but stares at the blue

substance.

1.11 INT. DEO - ALEXS LAB - DAY 1.11

Alex is analyzing the substance, and typing at her computer.

But the screen shows NO MATCH.
 12.

ALEX
Come on...

She types again, trying something else. But once again - NO

MATCH.

ALEX (CONTD)
Damn it!

She punches her desk in frustration, and pinches the bridge

of her nose.

JONN (O.C.)
Agent Danvers.

Alex looks up to see Jonn standing in the doorway.

ALEX
The substance has no match on
Earth. I cant break it down,
because I dont know what it is...

JONN
- Alex...

Alex interrupts him, continuing her explanation.

ALEX
... I need to interrogate the
alien, maybe he can-

JONN
Alex.

He grabs her by the shoulders.

JONN (CONTD)
Easy.

Alex is breathing heavily, emotions getting to her.

ALEX
I cant lose her, Jonn. We need to
find her. God knows what theyre
doing to her.

JONN
We will find her, Alex. Every DEO
agent in National City is out
looking for her. But you need to
take a step back.
 13.

ALEX
How can I step back when Kara is
getting tortured, or...

JONN
You breaking down your lab isnt
going to solve anything.

Alex stares him down for a second. Realizes what hes on

about.

ALEX
Im cool, Jonn. Its okay. Im
sorry.

JONN
You sure?

Alex takes a deep breath.

ALEX
Positive.

1.12 INT. DEO - CELL - DAY 1.12

The ALIEN sits down on his bed. A single light illuminates

his cell.

The door in the hallway opens, and MAGGIE walks into the room
slowly, dragging a chair along with her, and putting it down
in front of the glass.

MAGGIE
Look at the mess you made.

She takes a seat onto the chair, and folds her arms, staring
the alien down coldly.

MAGGIE (CONTD)
Its time to start talking, pal.

The alien eyes her, but doesnt respond.

MAGGIE (CONTD)
Why did you start the fire?

Silence. Maggie rolls her eyes.

MAGGIE (CONTD)
Where is Supergirl?

The alien chuckles. Maggies patience is wearing thin.

MAGGIE (CONTD)
You are an unregistered alien
refugee in National City. According
to the law, you dont even exist.

The alien stays silent again. Maggie raises an eyebrow.

MAGGIE (CONTD)
... However, your wife is
registered, as shes a human...
Suzanne, right?

The alien jumps up, and punches the glass, hissing.

ALIEN
If you touch her...

Maggie smiles, unfazed.

MAGGIE
We wont have to, if you tell us
what we need to know...

Maggie gets up, and walks towards the glass, so shes facing
him.

MAGGIE (CONTD)
Now... Where is Supergirl?

The alien sighs.

1.13 INT. DEO - COMMAND CENTER - DAY 1.13

Maggie runs into the command center, towards Jonn.

MAGGIE
The alien got paid to start the
fire.

Winn, sitting at his desk, listens in.

JONN
That means it was a set-up.

WINN
Guys?

Maggie and Jonn move over to Winns desk, as he points to

his monitor.

WINN (CONTD)
I hacked into the CCTV footage in a
one-block radius.
(MORE)
 15.
WINN (CONTD)
Theres a camera pointed to the
alley that leads to the back
entrance into the factory.

On screen: the exterior of the alley.

WINN (CONTD)
Over the past few days, there has
been some weird stuff happening...
People getting in the alley and not
coming out.

JONN
The factory was still operational
until the fire...

WINN
Yeah, but... Are those guys dressed
to work at a factory?

Winn presses a few keys. On screen: two FIGURES head into the
alley, wearing large black lab coats.

WINN (CONTD)
No camera picks them up after that.

MAGGIE
So, what, you think theyre still
inside? Thats impossible. We
cleared the entire building at
least three times.

Winn thinks for a second, before looking up.

WINN
Maybe you didnt.

Maggie and Jonn share a look. Maggie gets what Winn means,
and walks off.

1.14 EXT. FACTORY - DAY 1.14

A car pulls up outside the building. Alex sits behind the

wheel, and gets out of the car. Maggie does the same on the
other side.

They are surprised to see the entrance taped off, and a few
CSIs and policemen standing near the doors. One POLICEMAN
stops them.

POLICEMAN
Restricted access.
 16.

Maggie flashes her badge.

MAGGIE
Detective Sawyer, NCPD.

POLICEMAN
Im sorry, detective. The scene has
been closed off for forensics.

MAGGIE
I am lead investigator on this
case. I need to go inside.

Alex interjects quickly.

ALEX
We need to get to the roof, sir. We
wont contaminate anything inside.
Were here to review the alien
battle.

The policeman sighs.

POLICEMAN
Johnson!

One of the uniforms, JOHNSON, looks up.

POLICEMAN (CONTD)
Escort these detectives to the
rooftop, please. Take the
staircase.

Johnson nods, and Alex and Maggie share a look as they head
inside.

1.15 INT. FACTORY - CORRIDOR - DAY 1.15

Johnson walks ahead. Maggie and Alex are a few steps behind
him. Maggie leans over and whispers.

MAGGIE
Whats your plan? Hell notice if
were gone...

ALEX
He wont be there to notice us.

Maggie frowns. Johnson turns a corner, and Alex reaches for

the gun in her holster.

Maggies eyes widen, as she watches Alex SHOOT him in the

back. Johnson drops to the ground.
 17.

MAGGIE
What the hell, Alex?!

Alex crouches down, and fishes a DART out of the mans back,
showing it to her.

ALEX
Tranq. We have ten minutes, fifteen
tops.

Alex continues down the corridor, but Maggie looks more than
unhappy at the sight of the unconscious police officer.

Alex taps her earpiece.

ALEX (CONTD)
Winn? Have you found anything?

WINN (O.S.)
The blueprints only show the parts
of the building that we knew
already. Ill keep looking.

ALEX
The alien was paid half a million
bucks to set the building on fire.
But he didnt set fire to the north
staircase...

Maggie looks at her.

MAGGIE
An escape route?

Alex nods. They both draw their guns, as they move towards
the staircase.

When they reach the stairwell, Alex takes the lead, and looks
around. Maggie stays at the door.

ALEX
... Clear.

But something catches Maggies eye. She sees a nearby pillar,

with blue residue on it that looks like a handprint. She
raises her gun, and walks towards it.

ALEX (CONTD)
Maggie?

The detective holsters her gun to have both hands free, as

she taps the pillar. Alex appears from the doorway, and walks
up to her.
 18.

Maggie taps the bricks, until she finally grabs hold of one
of them, and pulls it out of the pillar.

A low RUMBLING, as the pillar lowers into the ground. Alex

and Maggie take a step back, and watch as the hole reveals a
ladder down.

ALEX (CONTD)
Im going first.

Maggie turns to her.

MAGGIE
We cant just jump in. We dont
know whats down there. It could be
an ambush.

ALEX
If Kara is down there, we cant
afford to lose time!

MAGGIE
Alex, I swear to God, if you...

Alex ignores her, hopping down into the hole and pulling
herself down. Maggie sighs, and taps her earpiece.

MAGGIE (CONTD)
Winn? Were moving in.

1.16 INT. UNDERGROUND FACILITY - CORRIDOR - DAY 1.16

Alex pushes herself away from the ladder, and raises her gun.
But the hallway around her looks deserted.

After a few seconds, Maggie appears behind her.

Alex turns around, and motions to Maggie. I GO LEFT, YOU GO

RIGHT.

Maggie nods, and they both raise their guns and walk off in
opposite directions.

Alex shuffles into the corridor, and checks every door she
passes. Everything is deserted. Offices, laboratories...

There is a door at the end of the corridor. Alex walks

towards it, and presses a button to open it.

Her eyes widen, as she lowers her gun.

 19.

Reveal: the room is an operating theatre, with a gurney in

the middle. The walls and equipment are all splattered with
BLOOD. Its gruesome.

MAGGIE (O.S.)
Clear!

Alex steps into the room looking shocked. She inspects the
gurney, but then sees something else.

In the corner, discarded in a pile. Alex walks towards it,

and pulls it up. Its Karas Supergirl uniform, coated in
blood.

She then walks to the rack of test tubes on the tray next to
the gurney, and pulls one out of the rack. Its bright green.
Kryptonite.

Alex growls, and flings the tube rack to the other side of
the room.

Maggie barges in, gun raised, but stops in her tracks when
she sees the state of the room.

ALEX
She was here... They took her
here... They killed her...

Maggie holsters her gun, and pulls Alex out of the room. But
Alex resists, pushing away from her.

MAGGIE
Alex... Stop!

ALEX
Shes dead... They killed her!

MAGGIE
You dont know that! It could be a
trick, it could be planted!

Alex stalks towards the ladder. Maggie trails behind her,

grabbing her hand.

A SCIENTIST comes around the corner, and freezes when he sees

them. Maggie lets go of Alex, but regrets it immediately, as
Alex YELLS OUT and tackles the man to the ground.

MAGGIE (CONTD)
Alex!

Alex gets on top of the man, and starts punching him in the
face.
 20.

ALEX
WHERE. IS. SHE?!

The scientist sputters weakly. Maggie runs over to her, and

tries to pull her off him.

ALEX (CONTD)
Answer me!

MAGGIE
Alex, thats enough!

Alex stops after another punch, and sees that the scientist
is completely unresponsive, his face completely bashed from
her beating.

Maggie shakes her head in anger, and turns away from Alex to
tap her earpiece.

MAGGIE (CONTD)
Facility is clear, we have one
suspect.

She turns back to Alex, and raises a finger.

MAGGIE (CONTD)
This isnt over yet!

Alex lets go of the man below her, and clutches her hand as
she watches Maggie walk away.

1.17 INT. DEO - COMMAND CENTER - DAY 1.17

Alex takes big strides into the command center, while two
agents walk behind her with the unconscious and beat up
scientist. Winn sees her coming.

WINN
Woah...

Jonn nods at her.

JONN
Well done, Alex. You should head
home and get some rest.

ALEX
Let me interrogate him.

JONN
Judging by what you did to his
face, Id say we can handle this
one.
 21.

Alex shakes her head.

ALEX
Please. Let me do this. He knows
what happened, Jonn.

Jonn considers, and raises a warning finger.

JONN
No violence. You dont touch him.
And if its too much, you walk out.
Understood?

Alex nods.

1.18 INT. DEO - INTERROGATION ROOM - DAY 1.18

The scientist is shackled to the table by his handcuffs. The

door in the back opens, and Alex walks inside.

ALEX
Alright. Lets get this over with.

She takes a seat at the table.

ALEX (CONTD)
You run an underground facility
underneath a factory, and when that
factory magically burns to the
ground, your facility is completely
empty, but you, for some reason,
come back for something.

The scientist winces.

SCIENTIST
I need painkillers, please.

ALEX
And I need the truth. The sooner
you help me, the faster I help you.
Thats how this works.

SCIENTIST
I wont tell you anything. Theyll
kill me.

Alex smiles weakly.

ALEX
I dont think Ive stressed enough
that you will never leave this
facility again.
(MORE)

ALEX (CONT'D)
Either you die in the next hour if
you dont give me what I want, or
youre spending the rest of your
life in a cell.

SCIENTIST
You think that scares me?

Alex leans forward.

ALEX
It should. Because if you dont
tell me where Supergirl is right
now, Im ready to have a little do-
over of our time underground.

SCIENTIST
I have a right to medical
attention, I need painkillers.

ALEX
Ill give you a damn morphine drip
if you start talking.

The scientist eyes her curiously.

SCIENTIST
Youre the sister, right?

Alex freezes, and stares at him. He laughs.

SCIENTIST (CONTD)
Alex, yeah? She kept on screaming
your name. Over and over again.

Alex jumps up, and grabs him by the collar.

ALEX
What did you just say?

SCIENTIST
Go ahead, kill me. Im dead anyway.
Oh, you should have heard her cry,
Alex...

ALEX
You piece of-

Alex slams his head against the table, but then the door
flies open, and Jonn comes in, dragging Alex out of the
room.

ALEX (CONTD)
Youre dead!

1.19 INT. DEO - CORRIDOR - CONTINUOUS 1.19

Jonn shoves her against the wall, and holds her there.

JONN
I told you. No violence!

ALEX
Didnt you hear that?! He was-

JONN
Taunting you! He was taunting you,
because he knows youre angry! You
should have known better! Now
youve given him what he wants!

ALEX
Im not done-

JONN

ALEX
Or what?!

JONN
Dont do this, Alex.

ALEX
Im going to go look for my sister.
If the DEO doesnt want my help,
Ill do it myself.

She walks away.

1.20 I/E. CAR / PARKING LOT - NIGHT 1.20

Alex enters her car, and takes a deep breath, before she
turns on the engine. The radio starts, its a news report.

RADIO HOST (O.S.)

... During the fire, there were no
civilian casualties, but a few law
enforcement individuals were
injures. Supergirl was the first on
scene, evacuating and once again
proving how much the city can rely
on her.

Alex starts sobbing, hunched over the steering wheel, as she

turns the radio off.

1.21 INT. DEO - INTERROGATION ROOM - DAY 1.21

The scientist is sitting by himself in the room, still

shackled to the table. He turns his head to the one-way
mirror and smiles.

His left hand reaches into the watch on his right wrist, and
takes out a small capsule.

He puts it into his mouth, and bites down. He throws his head
back, and starts seizing and convulsing.

The door flies open, and a few DEO AGENTS pour in, but its
too late. He collapses into the chair, eyes wide.

1.22 INT. ALEX & MAGGIES APARTMENT - NIGHT 1.22

Alex opens the door to her apartment, and walks inside. Her
eyes are red from crying, as she drops down her keys onto the
kitchen counter.

She takes a seat at the kitchen island, and runs a hand

through her hair.

MAGGIE (O.S.)
Wasnt sure if you were coming home
or not.

Alex turns around to see Maggie sitting on the edge of the

bed. She gets up, and walks towards Alex, arms crossed.

MAGGIE (CONTD)
What the hell happened, Alex? Why
did you lose it like that?

ALEX
Its nothing. I dont want to talk
about it, okay? I just...

Maggie lashes out.

MAGGIE
Youre not listening to me! You
keep running off to danger without
considering anyone else! Do you
think thats what Kara would want?
You running head first into a wall
and getting yourself killed?!

Alex snaps back.

ALEX
You dont know how I feel, okay?!
Kara is-

MAGGIE
I do know how you feel! Believe me,
I know!

Alex gets up from the stool.

ALEX
You dont have a sister!

MAGGIE
No, I dont... Not... Not anymore.

Alex freezes, and drops back down, seeing Maggie wrap her
arms around herself.

MAGGIE (CONTD)
Believe me, Alex. I know what
youre feeling. I know that you
want to do anything you can to
bring her home. That you feel like
you have to be the strong one.

Alex looks down, and chokes back tears, while Maggie stares
at her.

MAGGIE (CONTD)
But this...? You losing control,
thats not you. Youre better than
that, Alex. And were going to find
her, so she can tell you that
herself.

ALEX
I... I got kicked off the
investigation. Jonn wont let me
anywhere near the DEO.

MAGGIE
Well figure something out, Alex.

Alex looks up to meet Maggies eyes once again.

ALEX
Youre not mad at me?

MAGGIE
Oh, believe me, Im angry. And
scared. And hurt, but... But I get
why you did it.
(MORE)

MAGGIE (CONT'D)
And Im here to help you. We can
talk about all that other stuff
once Kara is back.

Alex nods slowly, and takes a shaky breath.

MAGGIE (CONTD)
Youre going to lay down, okay? And
get some rest. Im going to go back
to the DEO and get an update.

Maggie takes Alexs hand in hers, kisses it, and guides her
to the bedroom.

MAGGIE (CONTD)
Call me if somethings wrong, but
stay here.

ALEX
I love you.

Maggie smiles weakly, as she caresses Alexs face, and wipes

a tear mark away.

MAGGIE
I love you too.

1.23 INT. DEO - COMMAND CENTER - NIGHT 1.23

Jonn is talking on his headset.

JONN
Yes. I understand. Absolutely.
Thank you, madam president.

Maggie approaches him, waiting a few steps back. Jonn sees

her, and disconnects the call.

JONN (CONTD)
I assume Alex told you?

MAGGIE
Shes losing control.

JONN
She always has. She has this side
that only comes out if someone is
hurting the people she loves.

MAGGIE
Do we know anything yet? Can I
help?

JONN
The scientist just killed himself.
Poison capsule. Nothing we could
do.

Maggie sighs in defeat.

MAGGIE
Damn... So, that leaves us...

JONN
Nowhere. Back to square one. Ill
tell James that Guardian needs to
take over superhero duties for now.

MAGGIE
Jonn... If you take Alex away from
this, you know shes going to go
rogue. She ran into CADMUS by
herself to find her dad, I dont
want to think about what she would
do for Kara.

JONN
I just got off the phone with the
president. The public can not know
that Supergirl is missing, or there
will be panic. We need to handle
this with discretion. If Alex goes
around shooting first and asking
later, she could end up making
things worse.

Maggie nods. She understands.

MAGGIE
Ill keep an eye on her.

JONN
She has to trust that were doing
everything we can to help her.

An ALARM sounds from one of the monitors. Jonn runs up to

the video wall, and grunts.

JONN (CONTD)
Trouble... Lets go.

1.24 INT. ALEX & MAGGIES APARTMENT - NIGHT 1.24

Alex is sitting at her table, drinking a glass of scotch. The

half-empty bottle next to her.

Shes playing with her watch, and clicks it open, revealing a

crest of the House of El, and a button. She presses it.

She takes another sip as she stares at the open window, but
nothing happens.

1.25 FLASHBACK - INT. ALEX & MAGGIES APARTMENT - DAY 1.25

Alex is sitting on her couch. A whoosh behind her as Kara -

in Supergirl costume - lands in the room through the window.

Alex smiles as Kara wraps her arms around her from behind the
couch.

KARA
Guess what?

ALEX
What?

KARA
I officially got my first full page
story!

Alex turns around with wide eyes.

ALEX
Really? What about?!

KARA
Lena, and her position as a female
billionaire CEO in the male
dominated field.

ALEX
So just... An excuse to have an
elaborate lunch date with Lena,
then?

Kara adjusts her glasses quickly.

KARA
What? No... We just hang out.
Thats all.

Alex eyes her, one eyebrow raised, but decides to let it go.

ALEX
Still... a full page article,
thats a big deal!

Kara smiles, and blushes.

KARA
Thanks, Alex.

ALEX
As soon as Im back from getting
that orb with Maggie, Im buying
you a drink.

Kara smiles. Alex wraps her arms around her sister, and rubs
her back.

ALEX (CONTD)
Im so proud of you.

CUT TO:

1.26 INT. ALEX & MAGGIE'S APARTMENT - CONTINUED 1.26

Alex sighs, as she tucks the watch back in, and finishes her
glass.

She walks to the couch, and switches on the TV with the

remote. She flips through the channels, until she passes
something that makes her frown, and she goes back.

Its a live feed from downtown National City. A REPORTER is

standing with a microphone, watching the events unfold.

REPORTER (SCREEN)
... A lot of smoke, the building
was just hit by another
explosion... We dont know how many
casualties yet, but its clear that
this is an ongoing attack...

Alex runs out of the room.

1.27 EXT. OFFICE BUILDING - NIGHT 1.27

A DEO SUV stops at the site, followed by a white van. JAMES

OLSEN (early 30s), as GUARDIAN, jumps out of the van. Maggie
and Jonn exit the SUV, and the trio walks into the
perimeter, looking up at the ruined, ablaze building.

MAGGIE
Normal flames.

JONN
It was just hit with another
explosion, so the attackers are
still in the area. James, you and
me get the civilians out.
(MORE)

JONN (CONT'D)
Maggie, you try and see if anybody
saw the attacker.

Jonn changes into his martian form, and shoots up into the
sky. James runs into the building through the door.

Maggie sighs, but then ducks, as a HOODED ALIEN FIGURE flies

through the sky overhead. The spectators, press and emergency
services all have to jump to the ground.

Maggie gets back on her feet, and taps her earpiece.

MAGGIE
Jonn? Theres another alien here,
it just flew into the building, one
of the upper floors!

A BEAT. One of the top windows SHATTER, as Jonn is thrown

out. He lands roughly on the ground, breaking the concrete
below him.

Maggies eyes widen, but he gets up immediately, and looks at

her.

JONN
Evacuate the perimeter!

He shoots back up. Maggie doesnt waste time in turning to

the civilians around her.

MAGGIE
Everybody get back! Move!

1.28 INT. OFFICE BUILDING - NIGHT 1.28

Jonn lands back in the building and looks around, but the
offices are deserted. He takes a step forward, but is tackled
to the side by the ALIEN FIGURE, flying through a few walls
before finally skidding to a stop.

JONN
Who are you?!

The figure doesnt respond, but moves closer to Jonn as he

gets back up.

It jolts forward as its caught on the arm by a chain. It

looks up, and sees James standing on the other side of the
room.

JAMES
Time to give up.
 31.

The figure looks at the chain, and yanks on it, throwing

James forward.

Jonn and James double-team the figure, but they both get
flung out of the building.

1.29 EXT. OFFICE BUILDING - CONTINUOUS 1.29

Jonn is falling, but he sees James plummeting to the ground,

and flies towards him, grabbing a hold of him and putting him
down on the ground before shooting back up.

Maggie runs towards James, and crouches down.

MAGGIE
Hey, you alright?!

JAMES
We cant beat it.

They both look up to see Jonn flying out of the building, in

a fist fight with the figure. They hover next to the
building, throwing punches.

Maggie and James stare up.

POLICE OFFICER (O.S.)

Maam, you cant go there!

They turn around to see Alex running towards them, panting.

ALEX
Tell Jonn to get lower, I need a
clear shot!

She pulls her alien gun out of her holster. James taps his
earpiece.

JAMES
Jonn, you need to get lower. Lure
it down!

Jonn drops towards the ground, the alien not far behind.

Alex runs forward into the direction of the two, and jumps on
top of a police cruiser, raising the gun. She aims carefully,
and shoots, but misses.

Another two shots, and the last one finally hits the alien
square in the chest. It drops down.

ALEX
Catch!
 32.

Jonn gets underneath it, and catches the figure before it

can hit the ground, lowering it onto the concrete.

Maggie and James run up to them, as Alex falls to her knees

next to it.

JAMES
How did you know?

Alex sighs in defeat, and raises the gun weakly. Its glowing
green.

MAGGIE
Kryptonite...?

Alex takes off the hood and mask. Its KARA, her eyes are
closed. Alex nods.

1.30 INT. DEO - MED BAY - NIGHT 1.30

Kara is lying on a bed, her vitals monitored on the screen

next to her. Alex is sitting by her bedside.

MAGGIE (O.C.)
You should get some rest.

Alex looks up to see Maggie standing in the doorway. She

shakes her head slowly.

ALEX
It was too easy.

Maggie tilts her head, and waits for Alex to continue.

ALEX (CONTD)
They... wouldnt give her back just
like that. They did something to
her.

MAGGIE
The doctors said that they wont
know for sure until she wakes up.

ALEX
I am a doctor. I know her body
better than anyone. And I dont
know whats wrong with her. I... I
cant fix her.

Maggie hesitates, but then walks in, and moves to the middle
of the room, looking emotional.

MAGGIE
Her name was Rosa.

Alex listens intensely. Maggie smiles weakly.

MAGGIE (CONTD)
She was three years older than me.
My big sister, I looked up to her.
She was so much cooler than me...
She always knew what to do.

Maggies smile falters.

MAGGIE (CONTD)
And then one day I come home to
police cars and crying parents...
And they told me she was gone.

Maggie takes a deep breath as tears drip down her cheeks.

MAGGIE (CONTD)
Some drunk driver crashed into her,
and she was dead on impact.
Couldnt have been more than five
seconds... But my world stopped.

Alex doesnt know what to say. She squeezes Karas hand in

hers.

MAGGIE (CONTD)
And then after that, I got angry at
the world. Started rebelling,
smoking, hung out with the wrong
people... And thats how I met
Eliza Wilkey, and... well, you know
the rest.

She looks at Kara.

ALEX
Im so sorry...

MAGGIE
What you two have... Nobody gets in
the way of that, Alex. No god, no
man, and certainly no scientists.
So when she wakes up, youre going
to do whatever you can to make
things right. I know you will.

Alex looks up at her.

MAGGIE (CONTD)
And Ill be right beside you.

ALEX
I love you... So much.

Maggie cups Alexs cheeks, and kisses her slowly.

MAGGIE
Are you coming home with me?

ALEX
No, you go ahead. Ill... stay here
until she wakes up.

Maggie nods.

MAGGIE
Call me if you need anything.

Maggie walks out of the med bay, and Alex turns back to Kara
with a weak smile.

ALEX
Did you hear that? Your other
sister loves you too. And we need
you to wake up.

She kisses Karas hand, and settles into the chair again.

1.31 INT. ALEX & MAGGIE'S APARTMENT - NIGHT 1.31

Maggie walks inside, and sees the beer and scotch bottles on
the table. She puts them on the kitchen aisle, and then
reaches into her pocket, pulling out her phone and dialing.

She brings the phone to her ear.

ROSA (PHONE)
Hey, its Rosa! Im not at the
phone right now, so call me back
alriiight? Or, you know, leave a
message.

Maggie disconnects, the call, and calls again, tears in her

eyes.

ROSA (PHONE) (CONTD)

Hey, its Rosa! Im not at the-...

The voicemail is interrupted by the big window SHATTERING

into pieces. Maggie ducks to the ground, covering her head.

A BEAT. She looks up, and runs to the window, but she sees
nothing around her.
 35.

MAGGIE
What the hell...

She turns around to look into the apartment, and then finally
sees what happened.

A broken picture frame is lying on the ground near the couch.

She picks it up, and turns it around. Its a picture of her

and Alex, on their wedding day.

With a bullet hole, right where Alexs face was before.

CUT TO BLACK.
