In this problem, we have to select a ceramic material which satisfy
condition in three-point loading test:
Condition
The material must not experience Fracture or a deflection of more than
6.2x102 mm at its center when a load of 275N is applied.
We given with following data:
Radius(R)= 2.5 mm
The distance between the support points is 45mm

Firstly, the fractural strength of model is calculated by using following

relation:

=

=
(. )
=
So, materials which have fractural strength greater required above
strength are following:
1. Silicon Nitride(650MPa)
2. Zirconia(1150MPa)
3. Aluminium oxide(500MPa)
Further calculating required modulus of elasticity from following
equation:

=

( )
=
(. ) (. )
E=
The materials satisfying this value are following:
1. Silicon Nitride(304GPa)
2. Aluminium oxide (393GPa)
Result
Silicon Nitride and Aluminium oxide is the required ceramic
material need to be used in three-point loading test.
