Visy annually receives 60,000-70,000 tonnes of glass from kerbside recycling in Victoria. After sorting, most of the glass is processed into cullet for sale to glass bottle manufacturers or for infrastructure projects. However, some residual glass cannot be used and has accumulated to around 300,000 tonnes at one facility. Visy does not want to landfill this material and is seeking opportunities to use it. Visy also encourages support for domestic markets for all recyclable glass.

In Victoria, Visy annually receives approximately 60,000-70,000 tonnes
of glass through the kerbside recycling system, along with other recyclables which are reused by Visy in its manufacturing operations. Following sorting at Visys Victorian facilities, this glass Visy receives is primarily processed into cullet for sale to the glass bottle manufacturing industry or blended for use in a range of infrastructure projects. There can be residual glass materials that are currently not wanted or usable by the glass manufacturing or infrastructure industries and are therefore uneconomical to process.
Visy has an amount of material extracted from the glass sortation
process at its Laverton site which equates to approximately 300,000 tonnes. This volume of material is reducing through arrangements Visy has for the offtake of some of this material and Visy continues to investigate other opportunities and markets for this material. Visy has no wish to landfill this material and is hopeful that over time viable uses can be found for it.
Visy encourages governments and industry to support the growth of
sustainable domestic markets for all recyclable glass materials.
