For the energy source, for example, one needs to distinguish between continuous and pulsed
motions. Moreover, the conditions of the electric user must also be taken into consideration: The
important parameters include the required voltage, the power and the input impedance, i.e.,
capacitive or resistive.
With this data it is possible to design and dimension the transducer and storage electronics,
including the mechanical system.
PI Ceramic has extensive knowledge and years of experience in developing customized solutions
for piezoelectric applications.

Piezoelectric Sensor
A piezoelectric sensor is a device that uses the piezoelectric effect, to measure changes
in pressure, acceleration, temperature, strain, or force by converting them to an electrical
charge. A piezoelectric transducer has very high DC output impedance and can be modelled
as a proportional voltage source and filter network. The voltage V at the source is directly
proportional to the applied force, pressure, or strain. The output signal is then related to this
mechanical force as if it had passed through the equivalent circuit.
Capacitor
A capacitor is a passive two-terminal electrical component that stores electrical energy in
an electric field. The effect of a capacitor is known as capacitance. While capacitance exists
between any two electrical conductors of a circuit in sufficiently close proximity, a capacitor
is specifically designed to provide and enhance this effect for a variety of practical
applications by consideration of size, shape, and positioning of closely spaced conductors,
and the intervening dielectric material. A capacitor was therefore historically first known as
an electric condenser.
Voltage Regulator
A voltage regulator is designed to automatically maintain a constant voltage level. A voltage
regulator may be a simple "feed-forward" design or may include negative feedback control
loops. It may use an electromechanical mechanism, or electronic components. Depending on
the design, it may be used to regulate one or more AC or DC voltages. Electronic voltage
regulators are found in devices such as computer power supplies where they stabilize the DC
voltages used by the processor and other elements. In automobile alternators and
central power station generator plants, voltage regulators control the output of the plant. In
an electric power distribution system, voltage regulators may be installed at a substation or
along distribution lines so that all customers receive steady voltage independent of how much
power is drawn from the line.
