Various methods of measurement

1.measurement of earthwork
Earth work includes excavation and filling both. Both are taken
under different Quantities and calculated in cubic meter. The
foundation trenches are dug to exact width with sides of the
trench vertical. Earthwork in excavation of foundation is
calculated by considering the dimensions of each trench are
length, breadth and depth. Filling in trenches after the foundation
has been constructed up to plinth level normally neglected.
The depth of excavation or filling is measured vertically at a
number of points and a mean value is taken, if there is no wide
variation. In case of wide variation, area or length is divided into
sections and different depths obtained for each section

2. Measurement of concrete
Concrete is measured in
cubic meter, the length and width being the same as in excavation
the trenches. The depth is measured as per actual depth of
concrete. The thickness or concrete varies from minimum 200
mm to 450 mm, the usual thickness being 300 mm (12inch).

3. Masonry
Masonry work (both brick work and stone work) is measured in
cubic meter, Length, breadth and height are measured and
quantity calculated in cu-m.
4.Measurements of formwork
Formwork shall be measured in square meter as the actual
surfaces

Dimensions shaI1 be measured to the nearest 0.01m.

Areas shall be worked out to the nearest 0.01 m2.
