Basic Design Basis

a) The tank roof, shell and bottom plates are designed in according to the relevant section
of the Roarke's Stress & Strain Formulas - Table 26 - Case # 8a.
b) The horizontal and vertical stiffeners on the shell plates are designed in according to the
Pressure Vessel Design Handbook by Eugene F Megyesy.
c) The manhole and nozzles are designed in according to the ASME Section VIII, Div. 1,
2013 Ed. by assuming the manhole/nozzles are inserted onto the flat head/flat plate.
d) The design pressures used for the design of Shell & Bottom Plates are the full liquid
hydrostatic pressure + 1.0 psig static head.
e) Flanges are in according to ASME B16.5.
f) No corrosion allowance is used in the calculation for the SS316 materials.
g) Motion loads due to transportation for the tank are assumed to be in the empty
condition. G-loading factors given by the project specification are 0.75g (Surge), 0.75g
(Sway) and 0.45g (Heave).
h) Wind speed used during operation is 53 m/s based on 10 m height, and is acting in the
direction with the larges projected area for the tank.
