3 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The combined B12-17 topsides along with a jacket model has been analysed for the design of the deck
members under operating and extreme storm conditions. The data used and the methodology followed
are described in subsequent sections. Helideck including building module is analysed separately and is
not part of this report. The design of members and joints of Helideck & building module is given in
reference [8].
The analysis shows that the stresses in deck members and joints are within permissible limits.
The differential deflection at the centre of all girders and the ends of all cantilevers have been checked
and found to be within permissible limits.

5 COMPUTER MODELLING
A 3-dimensional rigid space frame computer model of the jacket and deck is generated with all
members contributing to its stiffness. The computer model is prepared based on centreline co-
ordinates, the model framing lines matching with the element centrelines. Offsets are provided to
members to more correctly represent their true location. The joint numbering and joint overrides are
given in Appendix A-1. The member group plots (properties) are given in Appendix A-2.
5.1 TOPSIDES
The topside is modelled along with the jacket & soil model of Reference [7] to more accurately
represent the topside loads and structure stiffness.
The origin of the model in plan is at the centre of the jacket at the work-point level. In elevation, the
origin is at the chart datum. The jacket model includes all the non-generated jacket dead loads as
defined in Reference [7].
The topsides model of Reference [7] is further refined to ensure that it accurately represents the latest
equipment layout and structural arrangement. The topside is a four-legged trussed frame structure
consisting of a cellar deck, main deck, building module cum helideck and solar panel walkway. A sub-
cellar deck is suspended below the cellar deck.
Reactions for building module and helideck are calculated as per reference [2] and applied for global in-
service analysis for deck. Helideck and building module is kept in analysis model only to consider wind
area and wind load. Refer Appendix B-8 for detail calculation of Helideck and building module reaction.
All members and joints are sized based on the resulting forces and stress check results in accordance
with applicable codes and standards.
The co-ordinate system used in the deck model is identical to the one for the jacket model.
Thus the model is correctly positioned in elevation with the bottom of the legs at the stabbing
level and the decks at the correct representative levels. Cellar deck is located above the wave
zone as specified in Reference [1].
The deck plates are modelled as shear type with 13 % increase in the density of steel.

5.1.3 MEMBERS
The equipment layout of B12-17 platform forms the basis of the topside model. All primary and
secondary structural members are modelled using tubular and hot rolled sections which
contribute to the stiffness of the structure. The members are modelled as per their centreline
geometry with appropriate offsets provided to more accurately represent the structure
geometry. Gratings are not considered to contribute any stiffness to the model.
5.1.4 CONDUCTORS
The conductors are modelled up to cellar deck level. They are pinned in vertical direction at
the lower end and connected by wishbone members at cellar deck & intermediate jacket
elevations so that they transfer only lateral loads to the jacket.
5.1.5 RISERS
Present & future risers are modelled as appurtenances as per their actual location as specified
in piping layout with the lateral load of risers transferred to respective levels. Riser dead loads
are transferred at jacket walkway level.
There are no functional rooms on cellar deck. A telemetry interface cabinets and electrical
room are provided on the main deck below building module. Building module consists of
battery room & shelter room. Structural and architectural dead loads, live loads and
equipment, piping and E&I bulk loads are applied on the sub cellar deck, cellar deck and main
deck.
5.1.7 HELIDECK
There is separate helideck structure with building module above main deck. This structure is
analysed separately and reactions applied on main deck at support locations. Refer Appendix
B-8 for detail calculation of helideck reaction.
The hydrodynamic constants for the jacket members in the model are the same as given in Reference
[7].

6 LOAD SIMULATION
The basic load cases and the recommended contingency factors to be used in all analyses are
described in Reference [1]. All loads are specified in separate load cases for the different areas of the
model to facilitate load combinations for the various analyses.
All dead loads of the structure are considered in the design. This includes the modelled structural dead
loads automatically generated by SACS and the load of the non-modelled items. These elements
include the grating, handrail, barrier walls, structural and architectural loads of room, stiffeners, ladders,
padeyes etc. The calculation of the dead load of non-modelled items is given in Appendix B-1.
Live loads on the structure include the blanket load, open area live load, grated area live load and the
laydown area live load as specified in Reference [1]. The live load on different areas of topsides is given
in Appendix B-2.
Total Live Load (sum of LC-11B, 11C, 12A, 12B, 12C, 12G, 15B, 15C) = 6809.32 kN
Dry and operating weights of all mechanical, electrical and instrumentation equipment and panels are as
specified in Reference [1]. The actual equipment loads are given in Appendix B-3.
Total equipment dry load (without contingencies) (sum of LC-21A, 21B, 21C, 21G)
= 661.72 kN
Total equipment operating load (without contingencies) (sum of LC-22A, 22B, 22C & 22G)
= 1170.09 kN
PC18XX 001R0
Project No. : 5061-22-1899 Rev. : 1
Document Title : B12-17 PLATFORM DESIGN REPORT FOR DECK INPLACE ANALYSIS
Dry and operating piping bulk item weights are included in the model as per input from the piping. These
are given in Appendix B-4.
Total piping dry bulk load (without contingencies) (sum of LC-24A, 24B, 24C, 24G)
= 2174.69 kN
Total piping operating load (without contingencies) (sum of LC-25A, 25B, 25C, 25G)
= 2843.71 kN
The E&I bulk item weights are applied in the model as per input from the E&I layout drawings and mark
ups. These are given in Appendix B-5.
Total E&I load (without contingencies) (sum of LC-27A, 27B, 27C, 27G) = 371.52 kN
The platform is provided with deck crane. The deck crane is located on south side of platform at main
deck. The crane load shall consider minimum of 8 directions to ensure all lifting scenarios. These are
given in Appendix B-6.
The 1-minute average wind speed as specified in Reference [1] is used for the design of the deck. The
wind areas specified in the model are described in Appendix B-7. The wind load on the structure is
calculated automatically by SACS as per the method given in Reference [1].
The still water depth and wave and current data specified in Reference [1] are used to define the wave
and current loads on the jacket. The wave loads are generated by SACS using 7th order stream function
theory including current effects and Morrisons Equation, considering the guidelines given in Reference
[3]. The wave load on the sub-cellar deck members in the air gap is calculated as per Reference [3]
using Morisons equation and the maximum particle velocity at the wave crest.

Reactions from building module and helideck are calculated as per reference [2] and applied for global
in-service analysis for deck. Building module and helideck model is kept in analysis only to consider wind
area and wind load. Refer Appendix B-8 for helideck & building module reactions.
The following contingencies on loads are applied in the analyses in order to account for a possible
increase in weight during further engineering.
Structure dead & applied Equipment, Piping and E&I Bulk Material
load (Dry/Operating) (%)
(%) (%)
8 - Jacket 20 20
13 - Topsides
Note: To account for the different contingencies applied to the modelled members and 3% mill tolerance, the
material density for topside members is increased by 13% and for jacket members is increased by 8% .
