In the video I show Option 1 (easier) But in concert I sometimes use Option 2
to help sustain the note "A" on the 3rd string longer.
In Option 2 After Hammering the F with the first finger, I swap My 3rd finger in
place of the 4th finger on the 2nd string as the note rings to make the D on the
B string to sustain as long as possible.
I suggest that you learn Option 1 as it is the most reliable fingering, and fool
around with Option 2.

Listen To Your Heart
by Adam Rafferty
Thank You and I hope you enjoy learning and playing this song!
Greetings!
Thank you for purchasing my video DVD or video download Learn Fingerstyle Favorites
With Adam Vol 1.
I hope that you get even more hours of enjoyment and music making for your friends &
families with this BONUS tablature of Listen To Your Heart.
Please don't let the crazy look of the sheet music alarm you or freak you out.
I say that because it would freak me out if I saw it for the first time!
It is actually a very simple song idea. There are some tricky spots to play, but if you
understand the structure and ideas of the music - you can do it.
Putting this song on "music paper" makes it look way MORE complex than it is, so here
are some tips to get you through it more easily.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DOcQ2NVnHE
In the tabs here, there are more open strings than in the Youtube video. This means less
jazz guitar type chords. It make the left hand work easier, and better sounding for
fingerstyle guitar, in my opinion.
Youll have a few different options when you compare the video and these tabs. This
arrangement is not "cast in stone."
Play the following example, and you'll see the 3 voice choir idea. Just keep your ear
tuned for the "top middle and bottom" parts through the piece.
Example 1:
In the actual arrangement there may be more "notes" added for fullness - but what you
see in EX 1 is the skeleton and main idea. Extra notes flesh out the skeleton.
Many of the extra chords, arpeggios, etc are ways to "add accompaniment" and rhythmic
movement while the melody notes ring out. Imagine EX 1 with embellishment.
TIP: CRAZY RHYTHMS - they are EASY, don't worry!
The parts in the music score that show groups of "5's and 6's" are the only way I could
write a very basic rolling of a chord. It LOOKS complicated. Ugh.
EASY SOLUTION: You DO NOT need to "count" these rhythms - all you need to do is
land on the BEAT 1 of the next measure.
I'll walk you through a basic example here. First, play this bass rhythm EXACTLY. (EX 2)
Example 2
Count:
Now, play the same bass rhythm, add the chord tones (top 3 strings, plucked at the same
time) ONLY on the "and of 4".
Then play the bass string only on beat "1" after that, letting the notes ring out (EX 3)
Example 3:
YOU MUST HAVE THE COORDINATION TO PLAY EX 3 BEFORE GOING AHEAD.
Next, lets take that one step further and "roll" the chord rather than play all the notes at
the same time - and land the last bass note on beat 1 - just like before. (EX 4)
Example 4:
"You have to strum 5 strings and land on that last bass note on BEAT 1"
or,
"You have to strum 5 strings and land on that last bass note on BEAT 1"
TIP: ROLLING DOWN THE CHORD (top strings to bottom strings)
Play a chord, and rake a right hand finger from the High E / first string down to the 6th
string.
(I usually use "A" - the ring finger) Make sure the bass note lands on beat "1" of the next
measure.
"TH" = left hand thumb over top. If you can do it, great - if not, just use other fingers!
Feel free to change chord arrpegios, chords, alwyas make it simple so that it feels good to
you. However - don't change the melody of the song!
It is very easy to make a mistake when writing tabs, and I apologize if there are any.
If you have ever written tabs out yourself, you know it is a LONG process.
If you have never written out tabs - this piece takes me 5 minutes to play - but it took 3-4
days to produce the music you now have in your hands.
Let me know about any typos you see and I will send you a FREE bonus as my way to
say thank you!

Lots of Love,
Thank you so much for all the help you have given me this year and all the years before. You are
the greatest. I have been gigging more than ever lately (jazz gigs), and my playing wouldnt be
nearly what it is without the all the things you have taught me. I look forward to learning more in the
future and enjoying a wonderful friendship as well. .
Take care, - Kurt

How To Solo Over II-V-I Changes DVD Video
Jazz Guitar Made Simple.
Take a 90 minute lesson with one of the top jazz & blues
guitarists on the scene today!
Adam, I just got the video today, and just finished watching it all the way through.
Fantastic!! I cant get over how good it is!
Very professional look, polished, easy to follow, etc, etc.. It really inspired me to pick up the
guitar and play along.
The close-up on the hands and inset of picking is great, and makes it all very easy to
follow. I watched while you spoon fed the lines to me and it worked perfectly. No problem
keeping up with what was happening. Has that relaxed feel like you are there in the same
room.
It is really cool the way you play the lines with different feels. The ad lib stuff (heres something Wes would do, how
to play 3/4, etc.) was great. I could go on and on, but the bottom line is this a really great video!!!
This is as good as any video in my collection, if not the best. I cant wait to start really working on these lines.
I have a gig tonight, and feel really inspired to play, and try to apply these lines and the feel. I would absolutely
recommend this video to friends. Thanks so much - Ill get a lot of use out of it. Like I said before, cant
wait to spend so more time working through the material. Thanks, -Kurt

How You Can Develop Virtuoso Picking Technique
Quickly and Easily...
Have you been wanting to improve your guitar technique
but just didnt know how to go about it?
Find Out More: And whats more this easy to follow, step by step
http://adamrafferty.com/store/virt_book.php approach is so simple that even a child could do it!
Dear Adam,
With the time I spent working on Excercise one, it has already paid off. I have been going
through the Hanon exercises and working on just playing at fast tempos.
I am seeing some excellent progress in my playing. Last Saturday night I played a gig with
my regular top 40 (oldies top 40) band and not only did I feel that I was more relaxed on the
up tempos pieces but that my playing in general was more relaxed.
Speed wasnt an issue that night.
If I had been the only one to notice it would have been good but the whole band really commented. The Bass player,
who is very critical, commented that it was like I was On Fire.
I know that I will keep it up and it will really pay off. I work a 50 hour a week job and have a family so I get in a little
over an hour a day on average practicing and this is now part of my routine.

How to Create Single Note Jazz Guitar Lines
That Outline Chord Changes
Do YOU want to expand YOUR jazz vocabulary?
Youll get several II-V-I lines in both major and minor keys
Adam, Thank you for another great workshop and an AWESOME new Book on how to
create single lines that outline chord changes!
I really admire your abilities not only as a guitar player but as a teacher. You just get to the
guys. You seem to have no insecurities about any of it and you are so encouraging.
Ive been working on the new book and can already see something happening. My Dad, who
was a great piano player, told me before he died really, everything you need is in here.
Of course I never understood how to get piano concepts onto the guitar.
It is so great that you put it together in a usable form for guitar guys. I think you are really on to something. Thank you
for unlocking some new, awesome territory for me. You are the best Adam, thank you.

Two things that my great teachers taught me are that 1) there are no shortcuts,
but 2) its easy when you get the right information!
I made a pact with myself anytime Id feel the elation and delight of
unraveling musical mysteries, that Id pass the knowledge on as best I can.
This is the process of how music and learning evolve. Each generation builds on
the information from the previous one and this continually raises the standard
of excellence.
I also made a pact that Id be a teacher (for you) that the proof would be in
the pudding. I.E. - youd want to learn from me because you actually love the
music you hear come out of my fingers!
No matter what anyones level of talent is, we all need teachers and people who
have seen things we havent, and basically been around the block more than we
ourselves have.
Your excellence matters to me. Your level of joy and creativity matters to me.
Your happiness matters to me! And I thank you for entrusting me to share my
knowledge with you.
I am here to coach you, teach you, kick your butt and show you how excellent
you can be. Feel free to call or email me anytime for lessons, coaching,
questions or just to say Hi! As well, if you have any questions about any of
my online lessons or guitar educational products, call me.
I am here to help YOU realize your true excellence on the guitar, in music and
in life!
