1 GENERAL

1.1 Description of Work


This section covers the specifications of the Fire Alarm System (FA) required for Disouq Field
Development project.

The fire alarm system shall have Fire Alarm Control Panel FACP located at the service control
room in administration building as indicated on drawings.

The provided Fire Alarm System shall be suitable for type of occupancy as defined by the local
building code and as required provided by the local fire Authority and by the international codes.

The Fire Alarm System shall be used to detect early start of fire in any location in the project and
initiate the appropriate annunciation, alarm, interlocking and counter measures commands as
described hereinafter.

The Fire Alarm System shall supervise all the functions of the equipment and devices including
the connected safety related systems such as monitoring and control equipment etc.

The fire alarm system shall be intelligent programmable using high sensitivity analogue
addressable microprocessor controlled detectors for smoke, heat and manual stations, etc.

Audible alarms and visual strobe lights shall be used for annunciation as shown on drawings.

The fire alarm system shall be interfaced with power panels, Firefighting and all other related
systems.

The system shall include all necessary hardware and software for integrated complete and
operable system in accordance with the requirements of this specification.

The contractor is requested to provide all the required equipment, component, etc. which makes
the system work as required without any extra cost, the contractor is responsible for providing
even those equipments which are not mentioned in specifications, BOQ and drawings.

Process area CTP buildings (workshop, warehouse, chemical storage) shall have their own fire
alarm system and shall be fully interface it on the protocol level to the fire alarm control panel in
administration building via RS interface (or any other interface that shall be specified according
to manufacturer published instructions).

The contractor of the CTP buildings shall install their own system including all related system
components including fire alarm control panel(s) , cabling, manual stations, detectors,
notification appliances, interface modules and all accessories necessary to construct a complete
functional system to be compatible with main fire alarm system of the Project according
to local and international codes requirements.

The interface between process area CTP buildings fire alarm system and the project fire alarm
system shall be done by using addressable fire alarm interface unit (IFU) which shall be installed
and connected to the system network and shall have specification as described below under
section 2 products.

1.3 Extent of Work


The extent of work covers the Fire Alarm System as described by the specifications and
indicated on the Drawings, riser diagrams and Bill of Quantities of the project.

Work shall include but is not limited to all labor, equipment, cable networks, connection, testing,
training, etc to furnish and install a complete system.

1.4 Reference Codes and Standards


Equipment and installations shall comply with the latest issues of the current provisions of the
following standards:

1.5 Related Specifications

1.6 Submittals

1.6.1 General
Submit the necessary complete sets of documentation indicating type, size, rating, style, catalog
number, Manufacturers names, photographs and/or catalog data sheets for all items to ensure
compliance with Specifications. This documentation shall be subject to the approval of the
Engineer and no equipment shall be ordered without his approval for all equipment and devices,
which are shown on documents (drawings, BOQ etc). Any document submitted by the
contractor during the tender stage shall not be considered as technical submittal, it shall be used
only to approve the manufacturer name. During technical submittal stage, contractor shall
submit all required technical document for study and approval.

1.6.2 Shop Drawings


Submit shop drawings showing equipment/device locations and connecting wiring of entire fire
alarm system including riser diagrams. Shop drawings shall include, but shall not be limited to,
the following:

Include voltage drop calculations for notification appliance circuits.

Include battery-size calculations.

Include performance parameters and installation details for each detector, verifying that each
detector is listed for complete range of air velocity, temperature, and humidity possible when air-
handling system is operating.

Include plans, sections, and elevations of heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning ducts, drawn
to scale and coordinating installation of duct smoke detectors and access to them. Show critical
dimensions that relate to placement and support of sampling tubes, detector housing, and
remote status and alarm indicators. Locate detectors according to manufacturer's written
recommendations.

1.6.3 Material Submittal


Shall include, but shall not be limited to, the following:

Pin to pin connection diagram

Complete one-line riser diagram(s) showing all equipment and the size, connection with the
outdoor network, type and number of all equipment

Large scale drawing of the Fire Alarm Control Panel

Provide calculations to support the size of stand-by batteries for the emergency power supply

Provide calculation of the DC lines to indicate the no. of audible alarms and visual strobe lights
per each circuit

Include programming and installation manuals

Complete description data including UL listing or any equivalent standards for all system
components

Complete sequence of operations and functions of the system

A list of every system address provided for purposes of alarm initiation, status monitoring,
supervised signaling and auxiliary controls (cause and action) list

Complete system wiring diagrams for components and interfaces to equipment supplied by
others

A listing of the manufacturer's authorized, local representative responsible for installation,


coordination and service.

Compliance sheet item by item providing a comparison between each item specifies herein and
each item submitted.

1.6.4 Product Data


Submit Manufacturer's technical product data, including specifications and installations for each
type of Fire Alarm System equipment. Include standard or typical riser and wiring diagrams,
operation and maintenance instructions for inclusion in maintenance manuals.

1.6.5 Maintenance Data


Submit maintenance data and parts lists for each type of fire alarm equipment installed including
furnished specialties and accessories. Include this data, product data, and shop drawings in
maintenance manual; in accordance with requirements of Division-1 and other relevant
documentation.

1.6.6 Instruction Manuals


The Contractor shall provide with the assistance of the equipment manufacturer and its
authorized, local representative. In addition, one approved copy of the fire alarm system
submittal, complete operating instructions; pertinent system orientation documents and system
service, testing, and alarm documentation in the fire control area (Fire Alarm Control Panel) for
the permanent use of the Company and the Fire Department.

1.6.7 Quality Assurance


The system and all its components shall be according to the listed codes and standards.

1.6.8 Manufacture Qualifications


Manufacturing firms should be regularly engaged in manufacture of Fire Alarm Systems of type,
size and electrical characteristics and whose products have been in satisfactory use in similar
services for not less than 5 years.

1.6.9 Installer Qualifications


Engage an experienced installer who is a factory-authorized sale and service representative to
perform the work of this specification.

Installer shall have at least 5 years of successful installation experience in projects with Fire
Alarm Systems similar to those required for this project.

Installer shall have factory training experience.

1.6.10 Training
Equipment's Manufacturer and his authorized, local representative shall provide, in depth,
equipment service and programming on site training to selected Employer's personnel for one
week.

1.7 Warranty
The Contractor shall guarantee the equipment and workmanship for two (2) years from damage
and deterioration.

1.8 Delivery, Storage and Handling


Handle fire alarm equipment carefully to prevent damage, breaking and scouring. Do not install
damaged equipment or components, replace with new.

Store the fire alarm equipment in clean, dry place. Protect from weather, dirt, fumes, water,
construction debris, and physical damage as per manufacture recommendation.

1.9 As-Built Drawings


During the construction of the system, the Contractor shall put in writing all his remarks, during
the progress of work, concerning any suggested alterations from the shop drawings in wiring
routes, locations of equipment or devices which arise from coordination between the system and
other activities.

No execution of alterations shall be allowed before receiving written approval from the Engineer.

All alterations shall be registered and filled by the Contractor and extra copies shall be submitted
to the involved parties (Engineer, Project Manager, Site, etc.).

A complete as-built draft set of drawings shall be prepared 15 days after completion of work for
approval of the Engineer. The draft as built shall include all previously approved alterations.
Final originals and copies of drawing shall be submitted according to Division-1, Section 01300
"Submittals".

1.10 Spare Parts


The system shall have the following spare parts:
x 10% of smoke and heat detectors,
x No of (2) FACP power supply,
x 3% of each type of sirens,
x 5% of the monitor, control, isolation modules,
x No. of (1) loop cards,

1.11 Coordination with Other Systems


The Fire Alarm System supplier shall be responsible to coordinate and exchange information
with Suppliers of other systems and equipment which shall communicate with, in order to
achieve the required specified functions.
The coordination includes, but is not limited to methods of communications (RS 232, protocols,
Dry contacts, .etc.)

2 PRODUCTS

2.1 Basic Configuration


All equipment and materials shall be designed to operate and provide maximum continuous
performance at temperature and humidity of the project location. Provisions shall be inherently
provided in the equipment to protect them from reduced performance or damage at peak
climatic and operating conditions.

The Fire Alarm (FA) System shall be intelligent addressable computer controlled and software
programmable.

The FA System basic architecture shall be based on Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP) located at
the service control room in administration building and a Graphical user interface (GUI)
connected to the FACP.

The FA System shall be electrically supervised for all the system equipment, wiring and devices
including the connected systems and devices of the other life safety systems (fire fighting,
HVAC, elevators etc) as described in the specifications and shown on drawings.

The maximum number of devices of a single addressable signaling circuit shall not exceed
eighty percent (80%) of the maximum communications handling capacity so as to allow for
sufficient flexibility in numbers and signals. This shall include control and monitor signals of all
addressable monitor and control modules.

The FA System shall include Emergency Power Supply Systems for each panel, which allows it
to function normally in case of total supply failure for periods required by the codes.

2.2 System Software


The software shall be using the latest certified manufacturer standard software, compatible with
any required third party subsystem software that may be used by the FA System to provide the
necessary function such as reports, database, etc.

The operating software shall manage functions and secure data control and management, and
any necessary real time alarm management applications.

The software shall include, but is not limited to the following:

The software can be configured over the network with the appropriate authentication
procedures. This includes programming, configuration, control and operation of the FA System
functions.

Display and presentation functions (status, alarms, etc) of the FA system and connected system

The system shall provide standard and configured custom reports on periodic or event basis.

2.3 The FA System Functions


The major functions of the FA system are to detect fire in its early stage, give alarm, commands
the connected systems and devices to execute the required counter measure actions in cases of
fire, supervise the system equipment, devices and wiring networks for trouble and failure.

The system shall control and monitor intelligent addressable automatic detectors (multi-sensor,
smoke, heat, etc.), manual stations, sirens, strobe lights, monitor and control modules, etc. The
FA Systems shall perform but is not limited to the following functions:

The system shall individually recognize all connected devices for alarm and trouble
identification.

Initiated alarms from individual alarm initiating circuit(s), device(s), and software defined group
of addressable devices reporting the alarm condition at the FACP and repeater panel equipment
and operate the alarms and counter measures described hereinafter.

Monitor the detectors for sensitivity settings from the control panels and log changes in
sensitivity due to environmental changes, and indicate the need for service due to accumulative
dirt if approach eighty percent (80%) of the alarm threshold (Pre-alarm condition).

Adjust sensitivity setting of detectors automatically with pre-set limits according to changes in
environmental conditions.

Report system faults and indicating the location of the faulty device

The system shall include event logging and recording facility for saving and printing all events in
real time and capable of events (not less than 5000) for retrieval such as alarms, troubles,
supervisory conditions, etc.

The system shall include software self-diagnostic capability, which scans all the constituents of
the system periodically and reports any malfunction

Alarm shall be done using sirens together with strobe light and voice evacuation speakers.

Automatic detector or group of detectors shall give alarm in accordance with automatic alarm
verification procedures according to NFPA 72. This feature resets the device reporting an alarm
automatically then starts a verification time period and confirmed Alarm triggered if the source of
alarm still exists during the period of verification.

Audible Alarm shall be done using Sirens.

The system shall initiate counter measure command signals to the connected fire safety related
systems if exist and devices through remote control modules and interfaced communication
links:

x HVAC,
x Fire Protection System,
x CCTV,
x All other related systems

2.4 Performance Requirement


The system shall be based on open architecture concept and expandable control equipment that
allow for extension in capacity, number of loops and sub-panels and accept adding extra circuits
and modifying the software to cope with the required extension.

The control equipment of the system shall be based on centralized architectural concept consist
of main fire alarm control panel which is monitoring and reporting all areas in the project.

The system shall include intelligent interfacing and signaling circuits for communication for
network operation and control of all the system devices and equipment (detectors, control
module, monitor modules, etc.).

The Fire Alarm System shall be fully software driven and shall control all the logical functions of
the system and can be altered in case of required modifications in the operation of the system
which does not alter the basic functions and performance in accordance with the code.

2.5 Constituents of the System


The Fire System shall consist of, but not limited to the following:

FACP is the system equipment, which interconnects together all system components.

The FACP shall be installed as indicated on drawings and shall include processing, interfacing
and communication circuits required to communicate with other parts of the system.

Event Printer (EP): The (operating) status and all events taking place of the fire alarm system
shall be printed using EP at real time and as required. Event logging shall cover the building.

2.6 Counter Measures


The system shall perform the counter measure command actions in cases of confirmed fire
alarm to the systems connected to FACP.

The Fire Alarm System shall relay the signals to the equipment of other systems through control
modules on digital bases, which work as interface devices between the FA System and the
connected systems and could be either digital or include relays for two state operations (start-up
and similar functions).

The system shall operate the counter measure actions of the system related to the specific
FACP where confirmed fire alarm was detected. These actions shall be done through remote
control modules, which take command from the FACP on digital bases. The control modules
shall work as interface devices between the system and other systems, which give the
necessary direct commands to each of these systems.

Command signals of the fire alarm system shall control the operation of other systems through
their control panels, and return to normal as soon as the fire conditions are cleared. These
actions shall be included in the event logging of the system.

The fire alarm system shall generate the necessary control function to stop the Air handling units
AHUS supply fans, start exhaust fans, control dampers, pressurization fans of the HVAC
system.

The signaling line circuit must be connected to a control device to interrupt the motor control
(MCC) by means of (stop-reset) commands.

The control device must be assigned a unique digital address on the signaling line circuit.

The alarm system must control over the following:

x Smoke evacuation fans,


x Pressurization fans,
x Fire smoke damper
x Mechanical rooms motorized louvers.
Also, the alarm initiated by duct-mounted smoke detector (installed by HVAC sub-contractor)
must cause shutdown of the associated air handling unit, the status of the duct smoke detectors
shall be monitored by the fire alarm system, the number of the monitor modules shall be
according to the number of the duct smoke detectors in the HVAC system.

Elevator capture/recall must be initiated by control device connected to the signaling line circuit
in case of fire alarm. The elevator controller shall respond the command and go to a primary
destination level and to a secondary destination level. (in the most cases to ground floor).

The system shall give command signals to the access control system to release the doors in
area of alarm to allow personnel to escape without obstruction. A special message shall be
displayed continuously during the period this signal is active in order to give warning that the
security doors controlled by the access control system are released. Activation of command
signal(s) is initiated if two (2) or more confirmed detections take place in the area of the door to
be opened.

The fire alarm system shall monitor the flow and tamper switches of the fire protection Sprinkler
system and give alarm when detect flow of water.

The flow switch monitor module shall have a delay time to compensate for water surged without
sending an alarm.

The monitor module shall monitor the fire pumps (standby fault - run)

2.7 Sources of Alarm


Initiation of alarm shall be direct, as in the case of sensing fire by an automatic detector, or
indirect, as in the cases of operation of fire protection devices (flow switch, etc) or fire protection
system where the control panel of this system will transmit alarm signals as follows:

Automatic detector (smoke, heat, linear heat detector, multi-sensor, etc)

Manual fire alarm switches (manual stations)

Operation of any of the fire protection systems

Sprinkler Fire Fighting System: The FA System shall monitor the water flow in the main valves
of the Sprinkler System in order to initiate alarm whenever flow of water is detected. Alarm
initiated from the Sprinkler System flow switches shall be of the non-addressable type and shall
be monitored by the FA as passive devices for operation and fault by addressable monitoring
modules. Addressable monitoring modules connected to tamper switches shall also monitor
faults condition.

The fire protection pumps shall be supervised by the FA system through their control panel for
run, fail, phase reverse and fuel level for diesel pump conditions using addressable monitoring
modules.

The clean agent Fire Fighting Systems shall be supervised by the Fire Alarm System through
their control panels for alarm, trouble and extinguishing.

Duct smoke detectors within the HVAC system (location and number of duct smoke detectors
shall be coordinated with HVAC).

2.8 Fire Alarm


Activation of any fire alarm initiating source(s) shall cause the following actions and indications:

2.8.1 Alarm Verification


The control equipment of the Fire Alarm System shall make sure that the alarm signal received
from the initiating circuit is correct and shall ignore warning due to faults, drift, dirt, etc.

This shall be secured using software programming in accordance with NFPA 101 verification

Retarded Period: Activation of all actions required in case of fire shall be delayed for thirty (30)
seconds, which is software adjustable, for receiving the first signal from an alarm-initiating
detector.

If an alarm signal from a second detector in same zone area or a second alarm signal from the
same detector is received within this period, a confirmation is assured and the programmed
actions shall take place.

Reset Period: If no second alarm signal is received or a sustained detection condition exists
within the first thirty (30) seconds, the system shall reset to normal.

Configuration Period: Any alarm signal to be received during the next sixty (60) seconds
(software adjustable), alarm condition is considered confirmed and appropriate actions shall
take place. The confirmation alarm signal could be initiated from the same detector or another
one in the same zone area.

2.8.2 Alarm Sounding


The FACP shall activate alarm sirens in the area(s) where confirmed detection of fire took place.
Alarm acknowledgement shall stop the audio alarm and shall be done only from the FACP by
authorized personnel.

2.8.3 Alarm Announcement in the Main and Sub Control Equipment


Confirmed fire alarm conditions shall activate display messages on the FACP, together with
local audiovisual alarm signals. Displayed messages shall indicate addresses and locations of
circuits and devices causing the alarm. Alarm acknowledgement shall also stop the local alarm
but shall leave the message in display continuously as long as the alarm condition exists. This
procedure shall be repeated for any subsequent alarm conditions.

2.8.4 Audible Alarm to Public


Audio alarm shall operate in cases the system detects confirmed fire and shall continuously until
the system is silenced manually, which shall not prevent resounding if the cause of fire still
exists.

2.9 Trouble in the System


The following trouble signals in the Alarm System shall activate local audio visual alarm together
with visual display of the nature of the trouble in the FACP

Power and battery failure or loss,

Open or grounded Cable network, which interconnects devices and system components,
Communication failure,

System software and hardware failure,

Cable and wiring network which interconnects the system all together in order to perform as an
Integral System, System devices and peripherals.

2.10 Supervision of connected systems


The FA System shall supervise all the system equipment and devices for trouble signals, which
shall activate local audiovisual alarm together with visual display of the nature of the trouble in
the FACP having trouble in its supervision area.

The FA System shall also supervise the connected systems and equipment using remote
addressable monitoring modules on digital bases.

2.11 Event Logging and Recording


All alarm, trouble, supervisory and command events shall be memorized by the system and
printed by the Event Printer (EP). The system shall bear sufficient memory to store not less
than 5000 events and print them on command.

Real time printing of event shall also take place whenever an event happens. Printed data shall
include time, nature of event happening, location, ID of personnel giving commands, etc.

A desktop printer shall provide hard copies for record of all the system activities in details.
Printouts shall contain the following information:

x Unscheduled events
x Operator acknowledgements
x Operator commands
x All alarms
x Supervisory conditions

Printouts shall include the data concerning the events (time, description of nature of events, etc).

2.12 Fire Alarm System Equipment and Devices


Equipment and devices shall be documented compatible all together and with any other third
party connected equipment and devices of related systems and in the project.

The FA System Equipments (M-FACP, detectors, etc) shall be connected together by dedicated
and supervised data communication network of sufficient speed, capacity and reliability to sup-
port peak data traffic generated by the system.

The constituents of the FA System are as follows, but are not limited to:

x FA Control Panel (FACP) with PC and graphics


x Fire Fighters Telephone System
x Automatic Telephone dialer
x Event printer
x Automatic detectors (smoke, heat, etc)
x Manual stations
x Monitoring modules
x Alarm siren
x Control modules
x Fault isolators
x Cable network

2.13 Main Fire Alarm Control Panel (M-FACP)


The FACP Panel shall include the necessary hardware and software required to function as
specified and according to the code requirements.

It will run the system software to monitor, supervise and control all devices within its field of
coverage.

FACP exchange data and commands with repeater panel.

The FACP is the main system equipment, which interconnects all system equipment and
devices in network configuration and shall include processing, interfacing and communication
circuits required to communicate with other parts of the system.

The FACP shall be installed in the control room.

The FACP includes, but is not limited to:

Central processing unit (CPU) and related parts

Display and control unit

Communication interfaces with the system.

Emergency power supply (PS) C/W Batteries

Software operating system including all necessary modules (communication, diagnostics, etc)

PC with graphics software

The Central Processing Unit (CPU): CPU shall be programmable; microprocessor based and
includes programs, which support all functions of the Fire Alarm System.

CPU shall also include all necessary interfacing circuits, which enable it to communicate with
addressable and non-addressable devices and equipment pertaining to the Fire Alarm System
as described in the previous Clauses.

Event initiating functions shall be performed in accordance with stored logic (firmware) in a non-
volatile memory (PROM or EPROM).

The CPU shall also perform all communication-oriented tasks on digital error free concept using
addressable routines to manage all addressable devices.

The graphic software shall be stored and downloaded into the PC.

The building graphics shall be stored floor by floor in a form of AutoCAD or BMP which ever
suits the system software.

The FACP shall be interfaced with the graphics PC so as to if any alarm initiated, the
corresponding layout or map shall be activated on the PC screen with initiated device flashing.

The software programs, which operates and manage the system shall be resident and have
complete immunity against noise, interference and supply fluctuations and failure. This software
shall also be protected against intended or by-mistake alterations.

All supervisory and trouble functions shall also be supported by the program which runs the
system including reporting routines which display all necessary information and alarms.

Special Diagnostic program shall also monitor all vital functions such as communication and
data processing cycles of operation and run diagnostic routines to detect errors and report it.

The communication with the Sub-panel shall be done through the appropriate ports and built in
communication software.

The FACP shall have a capacity, which can be able to handle all the devices with 20% spare for
each signaling line circuit.

The Fire Alarm Control Panel M-FACP shall have the following features but not limited to:

x Modular System to allow future extension


x LCD of minimum 80 characters alphanumeric
x Automatic day and night sensitivity
x Automatic drift compensation
x Dirt detector reporting
x Ground fault detection
x Internal self diagnosis
x Minimum of 5000 history events

2.14 Emergency Power Supply


The system shall be equipped with an Emergency Power Supply System capable of supplying
the necessary power to run the fire alarm system for 24 hours on stand-by mode and for 30
minutes in case of alarm state. The Emergency power supply shall include battery of sufficient
capacity; battery charger and non-break change over circuitry.

Battery Calculation Sheet must be submitted.

All power supplies shall be installed in conformity with the requirements of NFPA 70, National
Electrical Code, for such equipment and with the requirements indicated in this subsection.

The Power Supply shall operate on 230 VAC, 50 Hz, and shall provide all necessary power for
the control panel.

At least two independent and reliable power supplies shall be provided, one primary and one
secondary, each of which shall be of adequate capacity for the application

Supervision for the batteries and charger shall be provided to detect a failure of battery charging
and initiate a trouble signal in accordance with NFPA72 requirements.

All used batteries shall be replaced in accordance with the recommendations of the alarm
equipment manufacturer.

2.15 Fire Fighters Telephone System


The System shall consist of Master Telephone set, Remote Telephone sets, Telephone
interface modules, power supply, all required cabling, control, pull boxes, terminations etc

The Master telephone set along with the required number of telephone interface modules,
LED/LCD indication, control switches, and power supply etc shall be part of the main fire alarm
control panel.

The System shall provide two way communications between Master and remote fire fighters
telephones. It shall be a 100 % reliable system suitable for application during active fire fighting
conditions, fire alarm investigation, fire alarm system inspection and testing.

The Master telephone connects directly into a telephone interface module. A push to talk switch
provides the operator with voice input control. Master telephone uses local LED/LCD indication
and switch module to select telephone circuits and to silence any subsequent calls in until
selected.

There shall be ring in tone with a visible LED/LCD indicator for each telephone circuit, and a
switch control to select the calling telephone circuit.

Telephone circuits shall be supervised for opens, shorts, and overload conditions. The master
telephone shall be supervised for broken cord or off hook.

Remote telephones shall be provided as cabinet mounted. Each hears a ring tone when a call in
is selected and a hold tone when placed on hold.

System shall be wired in class A configuration. Size and type of cabling shall be as per system
manufacturers recommendations and to consultant approval.

2.16 Control Module (CM)


The Control Modules shall be addressable devices, which shall be connected to the addressable
loops and shall include isolated contacts of ample capacity, required to drive other devices.

The function of the Control Module is to provide command signal to the non-addressable
connected devices and systems.

Control Module Commands shall be from Fire Alarm System through addressable supervised
communication. Interfacing circuits shall be included which generate the required actions
command signals in to the control program of the system.

Command signal shall be transformed to passive (i.e. open/close) contacts of sufficient capacity
and shall be electrically isolated from the system.

2.17 Signal Control Module (SCM)


The addressable signal control module is used for connecting supervised audible alarm devices
to their respective power inputs upon command from the loop controller. The power inputs shall
be provided with sufficient volt to operate audible signal appliances.

2.18 Monitor Module (MM)


The MM devices are intended for receiving data from non-addressable systems and/or devices.
They shall be installed in remote locations of devices to be supervised by the FA System on
digital bases.

Two (2) state alarm or supervisory signals shall be transformed by the MMs to addressable
digital form to be processed by the system.

MMs shall monitor the status of CO2 & FM200 panel (status, fault and alarm), Duct Smoke
detectors, Flow and tamper switches of the sprinkler system.

2.19 Addressable Manual Fire Alarm Stations


They shall be double action, manual stations with normally open, single-pole alarm contacts.
Each station plate shall include operating instructions in English and Arabic.

Manual fire alarm station shall be constructed of flame retardant plastic with clearly visible
operating instructions provided on the glass. The word FIRE shall appear on the front of the
station.

Manual fire alarm station shall be located throughout the protected area so that they are
conspicuous, unobstructed, and accessible.

The addressable manual station shall contain an addressable circuitry to respond to signals
from the M-FACP and S-FACP and shall report alarm or trouble status changes.

The station shall be furnished for semi-flush mounting or surface mounting with matching back
box, where shown on Drawings.

The operable part of each manual fire alarm station shall be installed in accordance with
NFPA72 requirements.

The outdoor manual stations shall be the same as indoor but with weather proof housing with
minimum IP55.

2.20 Automatic Detectors (smoke, heatETC)


All detectors shall have built-in microprocessor and to have capability to store predefined
algorithms to be remotely controlled and selected. Each detector shall have the following
facilities:

Automatic day and night sensitivity

Automatic drift compensation

Dirt detector reporting

Ground fault detection

Internal self diagnosis

Data line powered (No separate power line required)

The detectors shall obtain their operating power from the fire alarm panel through the same
supervised signaling detection loop.

To minimize nuisance alarms, voltage, EM and RF transient suppression techniques shall be


employed as well as an insect screen. All detector designs shall provide full solid-state
construction and compatibility with other normally open fire alarm detection loop devices, (heat,
smoke, pull stations, etc.). The detectors shall include automatic compensation of
environmental conditions and self test capability.

Each detector base or head shall have two flashing status indicating LED for visual supervision.
When the detector is actuated, the flashing LED will latch on steady and at full brilliance until it is
reset by actuating, from the control panel, the reset switch.

Detectors shall be connected with two wires.

Detectors shall be plug-in lockable with separate base, including all addressable circuitry,
connected with two (2) wires to the panels and shall be self-adaptive to the system having the
possibility of address setting from the system.

2.20.1 Intelligent Analogue Addressable Microprocessor-based smoke detector


The Microprocessor-based smoke detector shall use light scattering photoelectric smoke sensor
technology.

The Smoke detector shall employ algorithms to monitor parameters and initiate an alarm based
on that data.

The detector shall monitor continually any changes in sensitivity due to the environmental
effects of dirt, smoke, temperature, aging and humidity.

The detectors shall be sensitive to visible and invisible products of combustion.

2.20.2 Intelligent Addressable Fixed Heat Fire Detectors


The detectors shall be classified as to the temperature of operation and marked with a color
code in accordance with NFPA72 requirements.

The required detector shall be fixed temperature heat detector. The detector shall be static with
threshold at 57 C + 5 C.

2.21 2.21 Addressable Alarm SIREN


The sirens shall be addressable and shall use the same addressable detectors base which
supplied in the project.

The siren shall be multi-tone, electronic with sound pressure level up to 95 DBA. The siren shall
be wall mounted.

The outdoor Alarm Siren shall be the same as indoor but with weather proof housing with
minimum IP55.

2.22 Remote Emergency Release Button


An auxiliary release switch shall be used in areas where the fire door needs to be opened only
some of the time. Such as the doors in the Bridges

2.23 Fault Isolation Module


Addressable fault isolation module shall be used in signal circuits to indicate and isolate wiring
faults.

Fault isolation modules shall be installed in order to help FACP to allocate break in
communication wiring.

Fault isolation shall be provided at riser and loop circuits at locations not exceeding the
maximum number of devices in between according to Manufactures requirements, the minimum
number of isolators allowed is one (1) for every fifteen (15) device in the loop.

2.24 Automatic Telephone Dialler (ATD)


Automatic Telephone Dialer ATD with at least 5 lines shall provide the system with automatic
ability to dial a remote fire fighting location and deliver pre-recorded emergency message
through a dedicated line. Message length shall be of (50) second at least. Telephone dialer
shall provide message test speaker and a message test switch. The dialer shall be provided with
battery backup operation and programming facility.

2.25 Addressable Fire Alarm Interface Unit (IFU)


The interface unit is a collection of monitor and control modules to perform monitoring and
control functions related to each CTP buildings. The project fire alarm system shall be capable
of issuing commands to the CTP building fire alarm system to signal alarm and fire signals and
the CTP buildings fire alarm system is responsible for all life safety control issues inside process
area buildings.

A separate monitor modules shall be installed for tamper and flow switches .exact locations of
IFU unit and tamper and flow switches shall be closely coordination with all trades.

The following signals shall be exchanged between the project fire alarm interface unit (IFU) and

Contractor shall provide all monitor and control modules to achieve the above signaling
requirements. The CTP building contractor will provide the building fire alarm control panel
which will be connected to the monitor and control modules provided by the main project
contractor.

The CTP building contractor will supply the fire alarm system inside the building including fire
alarm control panel complete with detectors, notification appliances, cabling and all accessories
to provide complete fire alarm detection as per local and international codes requirements).

Additional dedicated control modules will be used for interfacing purposes with HVAC to actuate
the related smoke/fire dampers as required by the smoke evacuation system according to HVAC
design requirements.

The process area CTP buildings will be totally covered with sprinkler system before day 1
operation of the overall project. The sprinkler system is monitored by the fire alarm system via
monitor modules for tamper and flow detection. The signals received from the sprinkler system
are considered confirmed alarms. After the CTP contractor perform internal decoration the CTP
contractor will install the fire alarm system inside the buildings including detectors, sprinkler
,notification appliances and related control panel to interface with the project main fire alarm
network via interface modules (monitor and control modules).

Contractor shall coordinate to provide all equipment to fulfill the above required functions. The
above general requirements are considered the main guidelines to provide the required fire
alarm system functionality.

2.26 Junction Boxes and Floor Terminal Panels


Fire rated junction boxes and floor terminal panels painted red enamel with suitable number of
terminals and proper size to hold wiring, both for immediate floor and floors above.

2.27 Test Chart Instructions


Fire Alarm System test instructions chart shall be in two languages (Arabic and English)
mounted in an enclosed frame assembly on control cabinet hinged door and on Manual stations.

2.28 Wiring
The installation of all wiring, cable, and equipment shall be in accordance with NFPA 70.

All systems shall test free of grounds.

All equipment, devices, and appliances and wiring connections shall be monitored for the
integrity of the interconnecting conductors or equivalent path so that the occurrence of a single
open or a single ground-fault condition in the installation conductors or other signaling channels
and their restoration to normal shall be automatically indicated.

An open, ground, or short-circuit fault on the installation conductors of one alarm notification
appliance circuit shall not affect the operation of any other alarm notification circuit.

Cable must be separated from any open conductors of power, or Class A circuits, and shall not
be placed in any conduit, junction box or raceway containing these conductors.

All wire and cable shall be listed and/or approved by a recognized testing agency for use with a
Protective Signaling System.

All Embedded conduits shall be UPVC and all surface conduits including over false ceiling shall
be Hot Dipped Galvanized Steel (IMC) type. IMC conduits shall be used for floor interconnection
rises.

All fire alarm cables shall be fire resistant Low Smoke Zero Halogen (LSZH).

The wiring which interconnects all addressable devices (detectors, etc.) with control equipment
shall be twisted and shielded according to the Manufacturers requirements, 1.5 mm2 minimum
copper single cores PVC insulated cables constituting supervised Class A circuits of the
appropriate style to meet the alarm and trouble requirements in extreme fault condition.

Fire alarm wiring shall be UL approved, or equivalent, and shall be in full compliance with the
Codes and the requirements of the fire alarm equipment Manufacturer.

The wiring of high current devices such as Sirens shall be with cross section area according to
Manufacturer requirements and shall not be less than 2.0 mm2 and shall not cause more than
five percent (5%) voltage drop.

All wiring shall be color coded and cabled. Junction boxes shall be red colored and include
wiring identification numbering.

Wires and cables shall provide sufficient resistance to the spread of fire (according to NFPA)
and generate no hazardous smoke to human life. Wiring System shall include all indoor and
outdoor wires and cables necessary for complete Fire Alarm System. Including control and
supervisory circuits, interconnecting with other related systems (HVAC, etc), Outgoing and
returning conductors are separately routed in each loop circuit.

3 EXECUTION

3.1 Examination
Examine areas and conditions under which Fire Alarm System shall be installed. Do not proceed
with work until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected in a manner acceptable to
installer.

3.2 Installation of Basic Wiring System Materials


Install wiring, raceways or conduits and electrical boxes and fittings.

Install wiring of power-limited circuits in raceways or conduits or exposed on wall or ceiling


where properly protected. Use conduit for runs through floors or in shaft ways to height of 2.30
m above floor. Provide cables in plenum spaces in metallic raceways or with cable jackets
approved for use in plenum spaces.

Install wires and cables without splices. Make connections at terminal strips in cabinets or at
equipment terminals. Make soldered splices in electronic circuits in control cabinets.

3.3 Installation of Fire Alarm Systems


Installation of equipment and devices that pertain to other Works of the Contract shall be closely
coordinated with the appropriate trades.

The equipment manufacturer shall provide all necessary assistance to its authorized, local
representative to:

x Coordinate the selection of system equipment


x Generate the system software programming
x Supervise the installation of the complete fire alarm system
x Perform a complete functional test of the system

Submit a written report to the Contractor attesting the proper operation of the completed system.

Install Fire Alarm System as indicated, in accordance with equipment Manufacturers written
instructions and complying with applicable portions of local standards of installation.

Complete wiring in accordance with manufacturers requirements. Color code wiring and install
per Manufacturers point-to-point wiring diagram.

Provide extra wiring or extra power supplies required to fulfill any requirement for extra power
such as in case of strobe lights. In addition, provide extra or larger size wiring to alleviate
voltage drops, which make device, operate beyond voltage limits for which it was designed.
Determine above with Manufacturers representative while equipment is being installed.

3.4 Field Quality Control

3.4.1 Connection and Supervision


Make connections to panel under Manufacturer's supervision. Run wiring to main terminal
cabinet located adjacent to main fire alarm panel. Complete connections from this cabinet to
panel utilizing Manufacturer's technicians.

3.4.2 System Test and Approval


Submit shop drawings for function and operation only, pre-approved by authority having local
jurisdiction.

Prior to final acceptance of system, Manufacturer of system shall, in presence of the Contractor,
Companys representative and Engineers representative test each sensing or detection and
alarm device.

Submit copy of test results in duplicate after signed by Companys representative to the
Engineer, Companys insurance company and local fire protection authority. Mount copy of
inspection record in lexan enclosed frame assembly on control panel.

Before proceeding with any testing, all persons and facilities receiving alarm, supervisory, or
trouble signals and all building occupants shall be notified of the testing to prevent unnecessary
response.

Tests of all circuits extending from the FACP shall be made at intervals of not more than 24
hours.

3.4.3 Coordination with Other Divisions


Check for all other systems that must be coordinated and interfaced with fire the alarm system:

Control panels of the air handling units of the HVAC System.

Electrical panels to shut down electricity in case of fire

Elevator, escalator and moving walks control panels.

For fire-protection systems related to doors in fire-rated walls and partitions and to doors in
smoke partitions, comply with requirements in Division 08 Specification Door Hardware.
Connect hardware and devices to fire-alarm system.

Verify that hardware and devices are NRTL listed for use with fire-alarm system in this
Specification before making connections.

Make addressable connections with a supervised interface device to the following devices and
systems. Install the interface device less than 3 feet (1 m) from the device controlled. Make an
addressable confirmation connection when such feedback is available at the device or system
being controlled.

Supervisory connections at fire-pump power failure including a dead-phase or phase-reversal
condition
Supervisory connections at fire-pump engine control panel.

3.5 Training
The Contractor shall conduct training classes for the Company personnel on the installation,
maintenance, programming, and operation of the equipment. The training shall be on site for five
(5) persons for duration of 10 days.

3.6 Special Tools and Test Equipment


The Contractor shall provide his recommended priced list of special tools and test equipment
required for maintenance and repair of the system for the Engineers approval during bidding
stage.

3.7 Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)


Factory acceptance testing for this system requires the presence of the Company staff/Engineer
at the factory for 5-7 days; therefore ticket, travel, accommodation, and daily allowance for five
(5) of the Company staff/Engineer shall be included in the price of the testing and
commissioning item in the BOQ.
