What is CQ?
Cultural Intelligence or Cultural Quotient is what we come across at our work place, school or
business where people with different cultures are seen.
Cultural Quotient (CQ) is important in any sector because it is the factor that helps you balance
any kind of environment. Though you are new to the environment you will be able to adjust
yourself, mould the situations into your hands and act according to that. CQ is such an
important element that every individual is in need of. Coming to a project environment, you
being a project manager, you know what your roles are, what kind of job is yours and then its
crucial to be having good CQ. It shows your true attitude towards your fellow people and that
also reflects the success of the project, beyond differences in the cultures you will be
appreciated.
My CQ is 4.
Of course, I did used my CQ in the past and the best example I can give you is:
I work in an Indian Restaurant, our national language is Hindi as you already know, but I dont
know how to speak that language due to my mother tongue influence in the place where I lived
since childhood. This was my backdrop after coming to Canada. I found a Punjabi girl at my
workplace who speaks fluent Hindi and she taught me. I was very keen to hear them speaking
the language and asked them difficult words to explain me. This shows I have good CQ as I
adopted the situation and learned the language without getting discouraged by myself. Despite
my need of learning the language, I have many instances where I have shown my cultural
quotient in my life.
