Forensics 1/2/3 Syllabus

This is a performance based class. You will be expected to perform in front of the class and/or an
audience if you attend a tournament.

Supplies Needed:
1" - BLACK Performance Notebook - can be purchased from Mrs. Tucker or from Office Max (I have a
few I can loan)
Pencil or Pen
Highlighters - at least two different colors

Google Classroom For Students

We will be using Google Classroom this year. It is very important that you bring your school issued
laptop/charger with you to every class. To access Google Classroom you will need to log in to your
school email. You will receive email notifications when new assignments are posted. This is also
where I will post important class documents.

Google Classroom For Parents

As a parent/guardian, you can receive email summaries showing your students progress in
classroom. You can choose the frequency of the emails, such as daily or weekly. You can unsubscribe or
remove yourself from Classroom at any time.
Guardian email summaries include:
Missing workWork thats late at the time the email was sent
Upcoming workWork thats due today and tomorrow (for daily emails) or work thats due in the
upcoming week (for weekly emails)
Class activityAnnouncements, assignments, and questions recently posted by teachers
Due dates will be announced at the time an assignment is given, as will the grading criteria. Points will
be deducted at a rate equivalent to one letter grade per day if assignments are turned in late. These
points will be deducted after the assignment is graded. I will only accept late work for two class periods
after the due date. After that you will receive a zero. Moral of the storyBe prepared by the due date!
If an assignment has a paper element that needs to be turned in, please use the basket marked TURN IN
WORK BASKET.

Your Forensics Classroom Folder - Each student will have a hanging folder in their classes crate. This
folder will remain in the classroom. Please be sure to keep everything handed out in class in your folder
unless told otherwise. This will also be where I put graded paper assignments.

Your Performance Notebook (a.k.a. Your Little Black Notebook) This notebook will be used
during performances and competitions. Each performance piece you use will go in this notebook. You
will need to have this with you every class period, along with a writing utensil. You may leave your
performance notebook in the classroom on the small brown bookcase when you are not using it.

Tournaments We will attend several competitions throughout the year. Tournaments are optional but
why be in a class that focuses on competition events if you arent going to give a tournament a try?
Tournaments are fun and you could win trophies!! If you plan to travel with the team you and your
parent(s)/guardian must attend one of the travel meetings prior to you being allowed to travel with the
team.
Missed Assignment - From time to time you may find that you have missed a day of school. If you
have missed a day of school it is YOUR responsibility to obtain notes and assignments you missed.
Make sure you check Google Classroom while you are out. Copies of all materials handed out in class
will be placed in the your classes basket on the table by the picture wall. Make sure to go to this basket
and get the items you dont have. I follow the Jonesboro Public Schools K-12 Student/Parent Handbook
in regards to make up work (page 23/24). Again, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to get missed
assignments/notes and to makeup work you missed. Do not wait for me to remind you. Be responsible
and take care of this!!

Cell Phone Station Cell phones in the class are becoming an issue. In order to deal with this, I am
instituting a reward system. Each class period that your student voluntarily places their phone in the cell
phone station associated with their seat number, they will receive a ticket. Once they receive 7 tickets
they may exchange them for:
A Tucker Tardy Pass or
A Tucker Restroom Pass or
A Tucker 25 point assignment pass
This is voluntary program. Your student does not have to participate. If they dont participate, they
cant earn tickets. Any student not participating who is found in violation of our classroom cell phone
policy will face consequences. If your student doesnt have a cell phone they can still participate in this
reward program. Please ask them to see me about how to do this.

Verbal Directions - Just so you know, much of what we do requires you to listen and follow verbal
directions. It is very important that you listen carefully and write down assignments. In the event that
an assignment was given during class and there is no handout for it, please check with me or a classmate
for the assignment.

Class Expectations
1. Bring all your supplies to class each day.
2. Place all materials handed to you in your classroom folder.
3. Be in your seat when the bell rings with your materials ready to go.
4. Take care of all your personal needs before the bell rings.
5. Make sure your cell phone is in the cell phone station before the bell rings.
6. Be respectful of yourself, your classmates, your teacher, the classroom, and the supplies
provided.
7. Turn in assignments by the due date.

Appealing a Grade In the event you feel a grade has been entered incorrectly, you will have two class
periods after the grade has been entered to appeal your grade. You must do this in writing. You can
write a note or you can send me an email. I will take care of updating the grade as quickly as I am able.
