At the beginning of each school year, we review school procedures and routines. Today we
completed our first fire drill. The students exited the building in a calm manner, following the
directions of the adults. After the fire drill, we returned to class. We practiced a lock down. I
explained that we conduct lock downs when a threat is on our campus. At Sunrise Drive we do
move to a lock down when wild animals come on to campus, such as a bobcat or snake. During
a lock down, students report and remain in the building. Teachers account for all students with
communication to the office. When this occurs, I do send communication to parents so that you
are aware of the days events. Our goal is to empower students with knowledge about handling
a situation that requires them to evacuate the building or to shelter in place. I am proud of the
responsible behavior students demonstrated during our safety drills.
We invite you to attend your childs grade level Curriculum Meeting. The agendas are staggered
so that families with children in more than one grade may attend the formal presentations for
each grade level.
From 5:30-6:00, Ms. Ratliff and Ms. Carton will present the revised Fine Arts Standards in the
MPR each evening.
CARE will have extended hours and be open until 7:00 for students enrolled in CARE during the
Curriculum Meetings. You may communicate with Sabrina Romero at sromero@cfsd16.org or
209-7944 to reserve a space for your child.
Sincerely,
Andrea Davidson
